I mean it's good overall that globally we're trying to mitigate the spread of this virus, but there is definitely some over the top mania unwarranted I believe.

CDC list the US with less than 1k cases as of yesterday, with 29 deaths.

Since October the Flu Virus is estimated to have accounted for 20k to 52k deaths in the US.
I don't know how I feel about all this...I mean eventually, unless you live in a bubble, this will get to everybody. I guess I understand it if they are just trying to force it into a sort of trickle instead of a deluge that overwhelms health services...but...are they going to cancel life? We all have to go to stores and interact at some point.

I think (not set on this though) all this is going to do is drag this out into a kind of interminable Chinese water torture instead of just sucking it up and getting it over with. I wonder if doing it like this is going to tip us into a recession?

I figure I am going to get it for sure unless I quit my job, which is not going to happen. I barely make it week to week, and jobs here are extremely hard to come by. My wife is in the health care industry also as an activities director at an adult day care center. They are talking about closing down indefinitely because all their clientele is elderly or mentally/physically disabled...I don't know how we are going to get by if that happens.

Sorry I have nothing else to offer

Man it's funny you bring up the Plague. I've been watching those Underworld movies again. Alexander Corvinus became the first immortal because the Plague mutated his body. Maybe the coronavirus could make that 1 and a billion person immortal. If you view the world like a comic book, it's possible.

would you want to be immortal? Like Vandal Savage
?

I'll tell you what's scary about this stuff. I live in Frisco, Texas and we have a family of 3 who has the virus. The family had traveled to California, either on business or for pleasure, and contracted the virus. Knowing the virus is in your city will make you walk on egg shells because the family hasn't been named. I guess you just do the best you can. I still go to the golf course but I don't get close to many people and I don't touch anyone.

What Lamar Jackson did to the NFL will have a impact on players like Hurts. I would rather have Hurts than Murray at Arizona.
Outrageous this time last year...now perfectly lucid. Specially with all the world’s madness as a backdrop.

This is just my opinion, no expert on anything health related.

If you have a virus that 100 people catch all at once, and those 100 people are spread out over 10 or so hospitals. It's fairly easy to manage. You can limit the other patient exposure to the virus, you can limit the staff exposure and you can easily isolate the 10 or so patients in your hospital with the virus.

If you have a virus that 100,000 people catch all at once in the same 10 hospitals then you lose control over quarantine and essentially everyone in those hospitals (patients & staff) are now being exposed to the virus. They then take said virus outside the hospital and expose more people.

So yeah when you have a contagious virus the only "cure" really is isolating it as best as possible.

That's awful about the wife's job situation, how are the patients there going to get by if they just close down indefinitely though?

Hey me too! I got the last pack of toilet paper on the shelves of the Costco on Eldorado last week. Somebody’s been following me. 😒

I know, but it is greatly appreciated. This sucks for everybody except a few health equipment manufacturers.

Want even more irony? My mother is really down to it now, but has been barely making it for the last 2-3 months..Our inheritance, outside of her life insurance, is tied up in an investment portfolio...and she will not make it till the market rebounds...so you know what that means..😔

Their families will have to figure it out...and none of these people can afford this. They have over 100 daily clients..

This whole situation is just horrible..there are so many life altering situations that nobody thinks about.

Like I told Nick...It sucks for everybody, but it is a lot worse for poor people.

65k - 80k ICU beds in the US, depending on who you believe. The recovery period for severe cases of COVID-19 is 4 to 6 weeks. If it ramps out of control, you'll swamp the beds in a blink. America isn't ready to start turning away people aged 65+ and letting them die (like Italy already is). Slowing the expansion buys time for treatment, vaccine development, new beds, etc.

I don't think it's bad thing to hit the pause button for a few days. It may be painful in the short term but will be overall less painful in the long run. My biggest concern is that I don't believe we have a firm handle on the severity and how it behaves. Many on the side of "This is over reaction" are as bad as those that are contemplating going under ground for six months. I don't think either groups have enough information to really form a logical conclusion. I think in the next two weeks things will become more clear as to how we need to proceed. It also allows a little more warm weather which may help in reducing the spread.

We've stocked the fridge and freezer as well as the pantry, not because we feel armageddon is on the doorstep but so we can avoid crowds at the grocery store. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks this thing starts to subside and we can get along with our lives.
this guy gets it.
