Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

You're right, he can't win but truthfully Trump should stay in his lane on this and defer the opinions to the people with letters behind their names. Politicians commenting on public health matters is a recipe for misinformation that will result in further distrust of the .gov.
I can see it now...

"Where's Trump? Trump hasn't been in front of cameras talking about this in days! He's asleep at the switch! Two more people just died in (insert state) and he's nowhere to be found! Where is the leadership?"

If anybody was calling him racist over travel bans to China this is the first I'm hearing of that. If anyone did say that, I'd want to see the context and who they were.

Depends on how long to get the result. If its a few days and the doctor suspects it, yes, I think a lot of people would self quarantine until they knew.

Jebus Christmas! I'm not saying people should vote against Trump because of coronavirus. I do think his generally incompetent manner of handling things, his constant lying, his making up facts that make him feel better about himself, and his egomaniacal refusal to admit bad facts is a reason he ought to be voted out ASAP, yes.

And replaced with his spineless version of himself, Biden?

I was going for humor. Guess you were out.

Sorry. Probably just a little touchy. Lost my mom a couple of weeks ago and my dad has a lung disease. He's very healthy otherwise and is very active and still works in his own business (rental property) at 81.

Again, for the thousandth time, I do not blame him for this crisis.

I do blame him for being a lying sack of sh3t about it.
LG your problem is your avatar, who can read your entire post without getting distracted? not complaining

Just be prepared. I am being dead serious in saying this that more than likely posters on here from the mid-state already have it. The Corona Virus is different from the flu in that you can spread the virus without showing symptoms and you can carry the virus in your system up to 2 weeks without showing symptoms.

More than likely this guy was sharing it with others for a week + without showing any symptoms. At this point it more than likely is all over the mid-state without infected folks knowing. Some might show symptoms some might not it's just going to be the nature of the beast.
So, you're saying that it spreads much like other seasonal respiratory viruses.

Until I see something otherwise, I'm going to deem this as a brand new (and thus uncurable and "scarier") brand of seasonal flu that is slightly more deadly than regular seasonal flu. 99.8% of people under the age of 60 who have gotten it have survived; it does appear quite dangerous for elderly people or people with existing health problems to get it, which isn't all that different from seasonal flu. Am I crazy?

Looks like liberal elite coaster types as well. Oh well, fewer turds moving inland and bringing their liberal ideals with them.
I think you mean progressive or maybe you don't know the difference. Our founding fathers brought liberal ideals with them when starting this country. It has become commonplace to mislabel progressives as liberals by right wingers. Bill O'Reilly always corrected his guests

It's ok. Many conservatives use the term out of context all the time because they don't know any better

There’s nothing “progressive” about liberal ideas. The word used should be “regressive”.

You gotta admit, it's brilliant marketing though. I mean, how can you be against "progress?" Not only do your ideas sound good, but you get to label opponents to them as backwards and behind the times.

Speaking of competence: it's quite amazing that we are able to create and mass-produce point-of-service molecular testing for a novel respiratory virus in a matter of a few weeks.
After working for a megacorp for 35 years nothing amazes me. They can can throw so much money at a problem it will make your head spin. What would have taken 3 or 4 months can happen in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, just a label.

That's probably a fair take. It will require mass-testing of patients with even mild symptoms before we really can say how "deadly" it is.

I agree. Mind boggling that some people are going nuts over the lack of test kits. They seem to believe that millions of test kits for something that didn't even happen until a couple of months ago would be sitting on the shelf waiting for it to happen. I guess they will really be upset that the firetruck isn't sitting in the drive pumping water on the house when it catches on fire.

Sorry about your mom. And I get it. It is obviously worrisome for anyone with some age and/or respiratory issue.

One thing that personally irritates me is that we booked flights for Italy back in October. Various airlines are proudly beating their chests that they will waive change or cancellation fees if you book between 3/5 and 3/28 for travel through September.

So, if you buy a ticket NOW knowing that the virus is an issue, and have to cancel , then you can get a refund. But if you booked before, when the virus didn't even exist, you are screwed.

Just had a meeting about the update. 1 actual case in Williamson Co. No reason to panic. 81% of all true coronavirus world wide are mild cases, 14% moderate sickness due to age and health before getting virus. 5% critical.

Commercial vaccines being analyzed and produced “just in case”. Normal hospital standards for isolation/droplet patients. All suspected cases are being sent to local health depts for follow up. The state won’t do a test unless flu or other respiratory illness has been ruled out.

In this case, it would be like a house catching fire in a remote area, and the fire department being able to build a pump station and plumb water lines from a city miles away.

Molecular testing requires the identification of proteins specific to a virus, then creation of antibodies that recognize the proteins, then linking the antibodies to an enzyme or other reagent for detection. By the way: that's kind of a difficult process. PCR is even crazier, requiring actual sequencing of the genetic code for identification.
