There is definitely sensationalism running wild, if I didn’t have a 2 year old I wouldn’t be concerned. Kids change everything tho. And I don’t take chances. I do everything possible to keep him from catching anything, of course it doesn’t help that toddlers are petri dishes.82,000 People are sick with Coronavirus at the moment,
of which 77,000 are in China.
This means that if you are not in or haven't recently visited China, this should eliminate 94% of your concern.
If you do contract Coronavirus, this still is not a cause for panic because:
81% of the Cases are MILD
14% of the Cases are MODERATE
Only 5% of the Cases are CRITICAL
Which means that even if you do get the virus, you are most likely to recover from it.
Some have said, “but this is worse than SARS!”. SARS had a fatality rate of 10% while COVID-19 has a fatality rate of 2%
Moreover, looking at the ages of those who are dying of this virus, the death rate for the people UNDER 50 years of age is only 0.2%
This means that:
if you are under 50 years of age and don't live in China - you are more likely to win the lottery (which has a 1 in 45,000,000 chance)
Let’s take one of the worst days so far, the 10th of February, when 108 people in CHINA died of Coronavirus.
On the same day:
26,283 people died of Cancer
24,641 people died of Heart Disease
4,300 people died of Diabetes
Suicide took 28 times more lives than the virus did.
Mosquitoes kill 2,740 people every day, HUMANS kill 1,300 fellow humans every day, and Snakes kill 137 people every day. (Sharks kill 2 people a year)
Daughter just turned 6 months. Hasn’t even had flu shot yet. Been on edge for 12 weeks. There is definitely sensationalism running wild, if I didn’t have a 2 year old I wouldn’t be concerned. Oh the flu concerns me as well. Hate this time of year.Yeah don't blame you all with toddlers being careful. If people would just wash their hands and stay home while sick. As a nurse that's one of my biggest pet peeves, seeing people out and about while coughing.
The media is definitely doing some fear mongering with it. It's bad when the surgeon general has to get on tv and tell people stop buying masks... Honestly the flu and bed bugs concern me more than this right now.
From what I can gather both by my research and what her company is telling her, they expect most of the staff to get it. No way to prevent it. But my wife is young and healthy so she’ll be fine. It’s a cold.Shew, that’s tough buddy.
I feel like my immune system is made of stainless steel. I don’t bother putting a mask on and I’ve lost count of how many positive flu/strep/RSV swabs I’ve sent to our lab. This time of year really sucks, it's awful. Feel like over the past few years getting exposed to so many things my immune system has gotten stronger (I'll probably catch something from a patient now)

The tough part is going to be her staying away from the house if she does get it.
