Just heard an interesting stat where the 50 counties in TX that saw the largest increase in minority population there were 542 polling places closed in those counties from 2012-18. 542! Please defend that as anything other than discrimination and racism and denying someone their constitutional right to vote. You people never stop talking about your 2A right and how the govt will never take that away from you, but what about someone's right to vote? I cannot imagine anyway to defend this and it is happening in red states all over the country. We should be ashamed as Americans that this is happening. We should be making it easier to vote not harder.

Is that "minority population increase" or "illegal minority population increase"? It makes a difference. You also didn't cover how many people were actually in those precincts - I seem to remember some being single or low double digits.

Why does that matter? You don't close polling places when population increases you actually open more polling places. Surely you aren't claiming that all of those people were "illegal". The logic is absurd.

Sounds like a good cause for you to take up if you believe the government is trying to suppress your right to vote . Currently my specific right to bear arms is ACTUALLY being infringed upon so my plate is full . I didn’t just hear it from somewhere , my state government is ACTUALLY trying to do it .

What I just told you is infringement by the govt of someone's constitutional right. Again, the 2A is not the only one.

Obama opened the flood gates. The population increase certainly could have been highly illegal. And how would we know - can't ask on the census forms, and wouldn't do anything when people lie on them anyway. I guess you think we should also reapportion state representation in congress and the electoral college to include illegals, too?

Have to disagree. If you are here in the country illegally you are trying to stay off the radar. Voting doesn’t allow you to do that. On top of that very few instances of voting in this country have been shown to be illegal.

Still doesn't explain why 542 precincts closed in those counties. Even if your premise is correct and a lot of them are "illegal" that would not explain closing already existing precincts. Surely, you will admit that is hard to justify. 542 precincts in 6 years. That is just voter suppression, plain and simple.

Then you should do something about it , if it’s true . Stage a protest , write your congressman , call Ted Cruz’s office and complain , organize a sit in , they were popular for a while , drive to Texas and chain yourself to a closed polling station and go on a hunger strike ... or use some of that fancy lawyer talk to fire off an email to WaPO and the NYT. I personally vote for the chain and hunger strike , it will get the most attention .

I didn't intend to say that illegals were or wanted to vote. Just that a huge increase in minority population as a reason to maintain or increase polling places without considering that some - perhaps very large proportion of the increase was illegals who can't vote doesn't fly. Example: if population in a precinct goes up by 1000 and only 50 of those are legal voters then it doesn't justify adding a new polling location. And the articles I read some time ago mentioned that some TX precincts had few voters - fodder for combining them with another. My polling location has changed numerous times over the years based on population change and accommodations. If this had been strictly about population increase, move to disadvantage a legal minority population, and not just about quantified or unqualified "minority" population increase, then he would have had a valid point.

Seeing the Berners pitching fits around twitter that the boomer dems all voted for Biden. All I can do is chuckle and think, yep that’s because boomers are old enough to know what a communist actually is and that socialism has nothing to do with being more social towards others.😂

Do you know why they were closed? You are making assumptions based off very little info.

Bernie Sanders (or rather, his supporters) will blame the “establishment” for fighting against him, when in reality, his biggest issues are that black people don’t really seem to care about it him and young people can’t be bothered to vote.
