Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Yep...I did some quick math
In China 2,717 deaths 78,159 cases 3.47%
Rest of world 45 deaths 2,788 cases 1.6%

I'm not seeing where you think this is slowing down. Actually it seems its spreading across the globe. As far as deaths they will lag behind, Chinese studies show in most cases death occurs in about the 3rd or 4th week after infection. Finally everyone says the flu is more pressing to the average American even if this kills 1.6% of people that is still deadlier than the flu.

It’s not just greed. If the gas’s fields and pipelines shut down your lights will go out. While coal fired an nuclear plants have onsite storage for several days weeks or months, the NG fires units do not, other than a few will some oil reserves.
This is only one example of the businesses that would need to stay open.

Water, electricity, gas service employees have to work. Medical providers, people that work in food distribution, fire, police, have to work. Transportation industry has to work or crops would go bad in the fields/warehouses, hospitals would run out of supplies.

Come on people think about what you are asking for!

During the blizzard of '93 many people were without all of these for a couple of weeks. It's not like the world comes to an end if you don't have power or water.

It's not the .govs job to protect us from irresponsible people. If that was the case there would be no crime.
That is yet another absurd statement based on zero logic.
Your statement is based on the assumptions that the government is currently doing its job (completely) and that they are doing that job with 100% effectiveness.
Both are obviously wrong.
It is the government's job to protect us from irresponsible people. (as society has determined)
It is the LEO's job to serve and protect.
It is a fireman's job to serve in protect.
It is a serviceman's job to serve and protect.
Society has deemed these things necessary in order to help insure our rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Yet your party decides that law enforcement isn't necessary.

There obviously is no way of knowing if the situation would be 10 times worse in China had they not taken the steps they did.
I'm not the defender of China. I have no idea what they have done and not done. I'm certain there would be some things I agree with and some with which I would disagree.

This whole debate (at least with me) started when the people on the return flight from China were placed under quarantine by the US. I felt then and now that it was the appropriate call.
What do you think they should have done with the people returning on that flight?
China has placed entire cities on lock-down. They are forcibly placing people in quarantine (that we know of, they may be killing them for all we know) who have a fever. Why? All in the name of protecting the "responsible" from the "irresponsible".

That's where I disagree with you. I don't think it's the government's job to protect us from ourselves.

It would for a whole lot of people. If you are a diabetic or require a specific medicine to survive you better have a stockpile because it wouldn't be just a 2 week shutdown.

Read the book "1 second after" by Forstchen.

Police and fireman show up after the fact and clean up the mess.

I don't agree with boarding people in but if our Gov says "hey, we need everyone to stay home for a week or two to get a handle on this" I have no problem with it.

It's a good book and the copy I have has a forward from Newt Gingrich and afterwards from some other people one being the former head of Strategic Air Command. All of them said everything in the book is not only plausible but likely.

China is letting one family member go out every couple of days for supplies, why wouldn't that work here?
I'd much rather be inconvenienced two weeks than to lose any of my elder family members.

Then go ahead and start your plan. Stop waiting to be directed like a child.

The problem with this virus from what I understand is that some people that get it won't have any more symptoms than a snotty nose for a few days and some might have no symptoms. Apparently it is much harder on Asian people than other races as well.
