Am i crazy here or isn't JG's worst attribute his deep throws? He's never completed a pass to a receiver in stride over 25 yards. Poor timing on deep routes is exactly why people go crazy watching him play...
no, you're not crazy. it's the "being late" that huts him down field. same critique on him that's been there basically his whole career.

if he doesn't figure out how to throw to spots....he'll just be more of the same. things just need to happen faster, he has to process faster.

and the only way to do that is reps, reps, reps.....so this off season is obviously huge for him.

Call me crazy , but I have a hard time believing that 32 of the most successful people in the world are purposely not hiring someone because of their color. They didn't get where they are today without taking chances and being smart. If these guys think your the best they will hire you.
Most people aren't accusing them of purposefully doing it. It's more about if you have 2 guys that are basically equal, you probably take the one yer most comfortable with. Which in many cases ends up being the white guy. The rooney rule helps owners get comfortable with candidates that may not have had the opportunity before.

Man, is anyone else amped up for the basketVOLs in Georgia tonight for Uros first game???

I kind of hope he just goes the F off after all the BS he's had to go through with the NCAA. Like 20 & 20, KG or Shaq type dominance in the paint.
I dont expect alot from Uros tonight. Maybe next week or the week after when hes run practice with the 1s.

I don't follow basketball a ton, but I love watching the Vols win, so yes, I want to see Uros whip the puppies!

"Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.?"
but head coaches are not really the teachers....they are more of managers. They have to implement their vision and put the parts in place, and make sure everything is implemented correctly. Being a great manager is an innate quality that everyone does not have.

yes. i am, can't wait to see it. hope he goes off...releases all that pent up frustration.....

it's like we got a brand new team with Vescovi and Uros coming in....

i think this may be what helps bowden the most, being able to now go inside out, he should benefit a lot.....

i think this also means a lot for Drew Pember and Fulky.....

anyway, yeah, i'm excited to see what they can do. game chemistry will have to develop obviously....but hopefully this is the shot in the arm we needed to make a run now.

The biggest issue is teams are treating the Rooney Rule like a check box with no intentions of actually hiring the minority candidates they are interviewing.
Only so much you can mandate to billionaires. Under this rule, Tony Dungy would’ve received a HC opportunity a decade earlier. Eric Bienemy should be heading a team rather than Joe Judge, but when Kevin Stefanski is fired in October, Bienemy will top the list after the interim.

Guys like Eric Bieniemy and Robert Saleh have as good or better resumes than just about every other coach hired in the NFL this year. I would've taken either over the guys Cleveland and the Giants hired.

And that comment is a big reason the Rooney rule exists. I wouldn't call it outright racist, but there is an underlying, probably unintentional, prejudice in that way of thinking. (I am not saying you are racist, just commenting on how that comment has always been used about black QBs and coaches) That was always said about black qbs in the past as an excuse for why they never got any real opportunities. And would always be encouraged to change positions at lower levels. Now you look out and arguably the top 4 QBs in the league right now are black. You could also say the same the other way about white RBs for example. "It's a different skill set" so most talented white RBs get told they should change positions at lower levels. Now CMC is starting to prove that wrong.
Hell Warren Moon wasted 6 six years in the CFL because of that unspoken rule.

His deep passes aren't that bad. His swing passes are horrible. I would say his worst attribute though is his timing. He doesn't anticipate a route very well, waits for for the WR to completely come open, and by the time he throws, the guy is covered or it's behind him.

I’ve noticed some of those big deep balls he hits should have been TDs if he threw it out there for them. Keyton has those DBs beat and had to come back for it. Guess devils advocate can say better to give them a jump ball than to over throw them

He ran practice with the 1s right up until his first "denied" I thought...

I don't know that he'll start, but he's been with the team all Fall and the early assumption was he'd be eligible so he should be in game shape and ready to go I'd think.

"Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.?"

So mathematics. If minorities are way more successful on the field (70%) that would leave a much stronger percentage of non minorities in the coaching field.
Leaving room for some discrimination but also some pure numbers.

That the basic concept?

Every other year an old guard dies and someone who never glimpsed a segregated restroom takes over.

He has no anticipation on balls downfield paired that with his mechanics being a “flick thrower”... he doesn’t drive the ball downfield so the vast majority of his deep balls are underthrown or hanging up in the air causing an incompletion, interception, or our WR to slow down when it should be an easy TD. Just like the throw early on in the Indiana game.

Just a little nostalgic racism. Not the bad kind documented in the Dolemite movies.

i think that's an important distinction....JG does throw a great 50/50 ball and has at times been really good with the back shoulder throws. he's also had big receivers that help in that arena.

when i think deep ball, i'm thinking about WR's running under the ball. QB gets it to a spot accurately and the ball and WR meet at the same time.

thats where he struggles. it's been discussed ad nausieum here, but it's the ability to throw the ball w/out seeing the WR open first.

Burrow talked about this the other day before the game....he'll throw it to a WR while his back is turned, so long as the DB's back is turned. that's because a) he knows the DB can't see it and b) his WR knows where to go to get the ball, and netiher of them have to see it for it to happen. that's timing/chemistry/accuracy........that's probably been repped 100's/1000's of times in practices and off season work outs etc.........

that's where JG has to improve. i think JG actually has a pretty high football iq, and could probably be a good coach one day.....it's "the doing" he's got to get better at.

This is true for the most part, but I have to give him a pass on the Keyton play. The announcers pointed this one out in game, the DB that was there to make a play on the ball actually made a great play and I think dropped his man to fall back into that play. Keyton badly beat his man on that route and the throw would have been fine and a walk in TD if not for that other guy making a great read and play.
