Maurer’s Instagram Post

I think Shrout is the best pure passer of the bunch
He has the strongest arm by far. He just makes very bad decisions. That was the knock on him coming out of HS. He had a lot of TDs, but an equal number of INTs as well.

I would be surprised if any of the QB's transfer until after the spring game. At that point, these guys will have a better idea of where they stand. I think at least one will bail after spring ball, I can't speculate as to who it will be.

When the TV showed Pruitt and JG hugging right after the game, Maurer was standing behind them. Not smiling. Told my wife he gone.
haha I just said the same thing including the he gone... excluding the wife 🤣

Somebody did get picked twice and could have been more. one was a TD for other team.

Maurer threw the ball 3 times; 2 should have been picked. He didn't look like he should be out there. I said nothing of JG. In fact, I don't understand any optimism surrounding any of our 2020 QBs. But I haven't given up on any of them either, even JG. Year two in the same system should allow all of them the opportunity to grow significantly. Spring should be an open competition; by mid-Summer we need to name a starter. I don't love the idea of trotting a true freshman out there. How many top ten teams have a true freshman starting? But if HB wins the open competition, so be it.

Shrout has not played a lot of football, only one year in high school. He always was a project. So is Maurer for that matter.

He shouldn't have been out there. He hadnt played a snap in how many weeks?? He also shouldnt have been tasked with cleaning up after JG. He was forcing it. Making freshman mistakes....but there is no denying he gave the team a spark ..funny how different the offense looked after BM went out until IU went prevent

Agreed he has potential but what BM needs most is a lot of time in the film room. Each of his passing attempts, including the completion was a misread and should have been a pick. He should have pulled it down and run on all three.
His completion was a broken play and he still hit thr WR in stride in small window on the sideline.....he needs the film room and experience but more then anythung he needs his coach behind him supporting him. Not replacing him for every little mistake...almost 2 ints is not 2 ints

I know this is a message board and everyone absolutely has a right to their opinions but can we please stop being emotional about this situation and work within reality? IMO here is the reality:

1. Coaches, who are professionals at coaching, are around these kids every day. They know their strengths, weaknesses and personalities (for two deep at least). They know what they can and cannot do. They are paid to win games. They will put the players that give them the best opportunity to win in the game.
2. None of our QBs took the job and made it theirs. Ramsey may have been in due to Penix's injury but there was zero doubt he was the leader out there. We don't have that leader at QB (yet).
3. Maurer should have been picked 2-3 times but threw the ball so darn hard the defense couldn't catch it (actually kind of funny now). He makes terrible decisions because he is a gunslinger. Until he shows poise and consistently makes the right throws he will never take over the #1 on this team.

All the conspiracy crap is garbage, let the hate and ignorance go. We simply didn't have a better option to win at QB than what was on the field. CJP and CJC did what they had to and won the game. We didn't deserve to win after the first quarter but got a W none the less. On to 2020!

Pruitt has shown no inclination for playing any other QB than Guarantano. If he stays for 2020, battling Bailey for the backup spot isn't in Maurer's best interest if he can go to a team with a competent QB coach and have a legit chance at starting in 2021.
I actually see it as the opposite. They have given Maurer plenty of chances. I think people like subconsciously ignore that because it does not match their agenda. Last night Maurer came in the game and threw 3 passes. Every single one hit the hands of a receiver but 2 were drops. The good news is 2 were drops because the hands they hit were Indiana DB's. SO, of course, JG was quickly put back in and he went to on rally us back.

Maurer unquestionably has better arm talent than JG. He is also a better runner. But JG makes fewer mistakes He threw 2 picks last night but he also only threw 6 all season. I feel like every mistake JG makes gets amplified and blown out of proportion. Did he play a good game yesterday? nope. Could he have avoided those picks sure but let us be real its not like the dude makes a ton of mistakes. He is a game manager and he is consistent (comparatively) he puts the team in good positions most of the time. Have there been some times he made the wrong choice sure...it happens to every QB but if you really look hard at it he does not do it a lot people just never miss a chance to notice when he does.

People jump all over him about the choice during the Bama game, as if it cost us the game. No one in their right mind believes we beat Bama whether he makes that TD or not. We are not that team yet. We are a good year away from one play determining the difference between a Bama/UT game. He was trying too hard which is very unlike him because the pressure was on. Its been spoken on many times by teammates and coaches he puts too much on his shoulders sometimes and takes things to heart to much. The kids a ride or die VFL and people are not appreciating the effort the guy puts forth. He is trying his best every second he's on that field. Not even the biggest JG hater will argue that.

So here is my question why do we hate on players like this? I could see if he was a Diva, a troublemaker, slacking off. But its not true. Dude is out there putting it all on the line and has proven he is the best QB at this moment on the roster. I think until someone proves they are better we should be behind him 100%. Maurer or Shrout or Bailey can and might beat him out this spring and if they do thats good But if they don't it means they are not yet ready.

I'm just saying guys lets support our players who are doing things right? The guys that maybe they aren't playing as well as you'd like but they show up and work hard and stay out of trouble. All I can ask is these kids do their best and it sickens me when someone is knocking a kid doing the right things.

The new journey could simply be the fact that we're starting a new year and is time to prep for a new season.

We held the safety on that play and got away with it or he would have jumped that route.
How are coaches not supporting BM? I’bet my bottom dollar BM was only going to be in the game one series no matter what and BM was fully aware of that.

Is he moving to wr in this hypothetical transfer?

I am sorry if your love for JG didn‘t allow you to see the flashes that BM showed in the Georgia and Bama game. He made throws in both of those games as a true freshman that JG will never make in his career.

Do I think he is the answer to our QB situation? I do not know as I stated earlier he was never the same after the injury but the one answer I do have is JG is not the answer if we ever want to be elite again.

Shrout and Maurer are gone. Never really had any chance to play here long term.
They did have a chance but unfortunately Maurer got hurt and Shrout wasn’t ready. Maurer will have another shot next season.

If JG doesnt throw 2 ints. BM doesnt see the field till the game is outta reach....the CJP has dogged BM,JT all season about how inaccurate they were and all the bad things they have done...pulled them after mistakes....but JG sh!ts the bed and CJP bbn is there to change his diaper and pat his bottom....

I called it in the game thread. I said IU goes prevent. JG throws its 5 yards. His WR gain 15 yards and CJP talks about his toughness....

CJP has done that same dance all season....down everyone and only build up JG unless he needs something from BM or JT

I’m not gonna argue with you. If you can’t be happy now, you never will.
Except the prevent defense thing, go back and watch and you will see IU played man cover 2 THE WHOLE GAME. Never prevent.

I agree. We have two players that can be great, but just need to learn to make the right decisions and not rely just on arm strength. As others have posted in other threads, Maurer could very well have had two interceptions on the one drive he was in. He is convinced that he can throw the ball to the receiver, whether there is a chance or not. I hope at least a couple of the incoming QBs can learn to make better decisions with their throws if the existing ones can't.

If Kasim Hill ever sees the field in a meaningful situation we are in trouble.
I agree.

No he didn't. That is one of the stupidest things people say here. They said the same about QD and Dobbs. You fanboys only remember the good throws from your guy and conveniently forget the good ones from the guy you hate.

He showed he can make a good throw here and there and throw just as many terrible passes. That is about it.

Yes he did start great against UGA. Then when they semi respected the pass he got shut down. Finished at only 50% for the game with a horrible turnover.

BAMA- Threw only 7 passes and had one int. That isn't a good start to the game. He didn't play the whole game so I won't say he had a bad game. His short pt was not impressive though.

BM has a real shot at being the starter next season, he should at least wait until after spring practice to make any decisions.
