Ohio State got hosed. Tossing the safety was awful. Overturning the return for Td was even worse. If that was 3rd and 10 and it would’ve been a first down and they called that play incomplete, Clemson fans would’ve raised hell. Every on the planet would’ve wanted that to be called a catch. I also thought dobbins Td that was called back was a catch. He catches it, takes a couple steps.. crosses the end zone (which by rule the moment you cross the goal line with the ball the play is dead and it’s a touch down).

That being said, day coaches like butch jones and settled for 3 too often.... that and Trevor Lawrence is some weird hybrid mix between Andrew luck, Colin Kaeperknick(the way they run), and Mathew stafford.

This has been "Hot Takes" with @HankHill

I could've given two poops about who won that game. However, that was very much targeting and the rule calls for the offender to be ejected. We have been on the short end of that many times this year.

Also, that was sooooooo not a completed pass. He never fully secured it or made a football move.

OSU was dominating that game and should have won. It wasn't those two plays that lost it for them. They made mistakes at critical junctures and still had a shot at the end.

Looking to @Atlanta VOL for more info but have heard USC has contacted Neids about their open TE position.

I don’t think they can pull him away from here.

Lol. Why would he take a lateral move to a dumpster fire of a program? He is Pruitt's boy. Not gonna do him dirty like that.

Edit: I read further that you were talking about Southern Cal. However, my comment stands.

The movement of the player being hit has absolutely nothing to do with a player leading with the crown of the helmet which is what the rule is and exactly what happened. Was called correctly even though I hate that rule and it needs to be revisited

It was absolutely a catch. He clearly catches it, has possession, then reaches out for the goal line. Once he breaks the plane of the goal line the play should’ve been done and it should’ve been 6 points.

Maybe I’m wrong (which is often) but I see a guy that didn’t maintain a catch in an area of the field where you needed to advance the football for a score.

You got a mulligan but found the lost ball on the next shot lying next to the new ball.

Needs to be a differentiation between intentional and incidental targeting maybe? Intentional is 15 yds and ejection. Incidental is just the yardage.

Idk 85. You brought the article here and said it was exactly right. But he seems to make the exact opposite argument from what you said in this post.
He’s exactly right about 8 teams not leading to better football, just more blowouts.

His “concentration of talent” comment is ambiguous, referencing “a few” (10 to 12 out of 130 would be “a few”). It does not parrot the “5 to 6 schools” narrative often seen.

Which just simply is not borne out in the actual recruiting results. All the elite talent is not accruing to “5 or 6” schools. That is just flat out untrue.

Full speed at first is thought it was incomplete, but slow motion is there for a reason, to clarify full speed situations

No way should that have been overturned

Same. The analyst saying if he had "made a dive or turned more upfield"??? The defender had is arm around him, he couldn't dive but he made all the steps. The ONLY reason it wasn't "upfield" was because the 45° angle was his best shot to escape the tackle.

Escaping a tackle is a football move. That one was the most blatant of the night, imo. Still, OSU should have closed early and that cutback by the receiver...oof.

I would just be curious to see if stats indicate that the game is safer since these rule changes.
If it saves a single player from a severe neck or head injury, then it's worth it. That goes for the defenders as well with using poor technique and putting themselves at unneeded risk.
