Recruiting Forum Football Talk II

Expanded playoffs will make it where kids don't think they have to go to one of five or six schools to have a chance at a title. It is the future you have to look at to see the real value of the eight team playoff...not the right now.

Why are you guys so against more football? That is so dang weird to me.

Visited the Bama site this morning and they are upset about the targeting call arguing if an offensive player lowers his head how can it be targeting???

They don’t seem to ( or want to) remember Jeudy vs Bituli at the goal line.

I am sure all fan bases are guilty of this, but I just find it interesting.

Doug Dickey's playoff expansion recommendation article with 247 is linked below:

Doug Dickey on state of Vols, fixing College Football Playoff

Dickey says that the 4 team playoff hurts teams like TN because all the elite players want to play in the playoffs. Therefore, most of the 5 star recruits end up at 5 or 6 schools that are usually contenders for the playoffs. It causes what we are seeing now with the big disparity between the elite teams and everyone else.

His recommendation is a 12 team playoff setup where the top 4 teams get a round 1 bye. Teams 9, 10, 11, and 12 would play at the home field of teams 5, 6, 7 and 8 in round 1 the week after conference championship games. The 4 winners of round 1 would then play the top 4 in traditional early bowl games in the quarter finals .. and the semis and championship games could remain similar to the current setup.

I like his idea on the playoffs and would love to see it implemented.

8 in the playoff ends the fantasy logic of the losers and levels the playing field more for the less entitled to earn their way to big stage. The elite will still avoid scheduling them.

Plus - we get an extra game, which is a good thing.

I just think schools shouldn’t be able to schedule FCS opponents. Make it only FBS opponents and that would make everything a little better.

Sounds terrible. Also that would mean those teams had played more games then the actual top 4. Which they would consider a disadvantage on both sides. (We played more games and were more beat up; we didn’t play as many games so we didn’t have as many live reps; insert excuse here)

1. Yes
2. Yes, but I have hated OSU, MI, ND, USC, and their media followers for too long.
3. Yes, and I hope LSU gives them that slip back down by a lot. Think this helps TN more so my fandom is safe. Would have been happier if neither OSU or Clemson made the PO.

I said that's what made it possible for me to get past my hate.
I did NOT question anyone's fandom.

Matter of fact, I don't recall questioning anyone as to why they didn't pull against the same team I did? Seems to me, I was answering someone that did.

And ftr, yeah, I would rather it not been them 2 also. But it was.

There would be an incentive to be one of the top 4 teams to get the bye. No different than the NFL playoffs. Just think of the stories if one of the bottom 4 teams manages to advance to the semis or finals. I think it wold be great for college football.

Only drawback is the extra games a few college players would have to play. However, the extra games would be no different than the lower tier college football playoffs now.

And I can’t wait to watch Orgeron post game celebrate. But not as much as I’m going to enjoy Dabo whining like the bitch that he is in his postgame.

This.
I didn't want Clemson to have another win to celebrate on the national stage last night.
But since it happened, now I want them completely embarrassed. 🤞Bonus: Dabo has such a tantrum, he slips out of character and gets completely exposed.

Ohio State got hosed. Tossing the safety was awful. Overturning the return for Td was even worse. If that was 3rd and 10 and it would’ve been a first down and they called that play incomplete, Clemson fans would’ve raised hell. Every on the planet would’ve wanted that to be called a catch. I also thought dobbins Td that was called back was a catch. He catches it, takes a couple steps.. crosses the end zone (which by rule the moment you cross the goal line with the ball the play is dead and it’s a touch down).

That being said, day coaches like butch jones and settled for 3 too often.... that and Trevor Lawrence is some weird hybrid mix between Andrew luck, Colin Kaeperknick(the way they run), and Mathew stafford.

And that “5 or 6 schools” excuse is so played out and flat out wrong.
5 or 6 schools are not gobbling up all the 5Stars and Top100 players....

Idk 85. You brought the article here and said it was exactly right. But he seems to make the exact opposite argument from what you said in this post.

where the concentration of talent at a small number of programs means only a handful or so begin every season with a legitimate chance to win a national championship.

I never really hated dabo til this year. His act is so tired. Plus them just getting handed the game last night was the cherry.
