Mike Leach accepted the UT Job, then we withdrew the offer... Let that sink in

Just a capping-off for this lovely thread:

Washington State Cougars -- 6-7, closed out by a loss to Air Force Academy in the illustrious Cheez-It Bowl. Went 3-6 in conference, and finished 5th in the PAC-12-North [total of 6 teams in the PAC-12-North].

So with that as the landscape, let's look at just a few of the more beautiful posts:

Nationdom, dude, he can't even win 10 games every year in the PAC; it doesn't get easier in the SEC.

Heh. He can't do it there, much less here.

No, let's hope it is Bama, Florida, Georgia, or USCe instead, haha. Someone we play every year.

Like art. Hmm. Maybe Munch's The Scream.

Since CJP's already at 12 wins, maybe going to 13, after just two seasons, I'm thinking your prediction will be a little off.

Bet you wish you could take that back, there, Jo.

...

It's a little fun, and a little sad, to remember how badly we were collectively mouth-breathing early in the season, and consequently panting over a middling coach who is quirky fun to listen to but not championship caliber.

We need championship caliber. Do we have it now? Maybe, maybe not, the 2020 season will tell us a lot. But one thing's for certain; we're better off with Pruitt than we would've been with Leach. Much more potential on the up side.

Go Vols!

A lot of work for an idiotic post. One bad year at Wazzu and suddenly he sucks. Dude wins more than he loses at bad programs but can't coach. OK...

Why people think Leach wouldn't hire an SEC-minded DC if he was coaching in the SEC is beyond me. It's like saying a guy who manages a successful McDonald's franchise can't do the same at a Burger King because he will try to serve Bic Macs instead of Whoppers.

And beat MissSt (a SECw team) SCar, Mizz, Ky and Vandy.....first time that’s happened in how long? Let go of the GaState loss, it was an outlier, an anomaly, and given how the season played out, should not necessarily be forgotten, but certainly forgiven imo.

I don't dismiss it as an anomaly. I treat it just like losses to Wyoming, losses at Georgia Tech, Rutgers or at Memphis. Or barely beating Troy. Where the Vols had twice the talent, and they played like bums. An anomaly is like a solar eclipse. Something you see once in a lifetime. I saw all those games, KB. If you are going to make excuses, at least make good ones.

Bic Macs? A burger that tastes like ink? Perhaps your misspelling brings about the next great taste sensation.

He better learn to make Whoppers. Better than BiG Macs any day of the week..

One bad year. Heh.

He's been at Washington State eight seasons. Four of those were losing seasons. That's half, not "one bad year." And of his four better years, three were 8-5 (which Jeremy may achieve this season at Tennessee) or 9-4 (which Butch got the Vols to, twice).

So how is the fact that "dude wins more than he loses" supposed to be a ringing endorsement?

p.s. Never once said Leach can't coach, so give up that red herring. Said he's middling, as in somewhere around the average, and not championship caliber. Because, you know, he's not.

Go Vols!

We don't know that because he's never had an opportunity at a place that is a championship level program. Dude had Texas Tech ranked number one in the nation at one point. Washington State is a very difficult place to win at. It's the worst job in the PAC 12. With the right DC hire (just like a HC with a defensive background would need a solid OC) I absolutely believe he could be a championship level HC.

Go Vols (we agree where it really matters, haha)

And I am SO VERY HAPPY that neither of Currie's idiotic choices for HC worked out!!!!

The Pirate's best years were at Texas Tech..

LEACH is just 8 games above 500 after 8 years at WSU....

He was 9-16 after his first 2 years at WSU....
He was 21-29 after his first 4 years at WSU...

EVERY COACH posting that record at UT in 4 years would deserve to be fired.

Leach has never won a conference championship.

His overall record there is barely 54%....

Let those stats sink in for a moment....

Pruitt was on Currie's list

It would be interesting to see if Missouri might look into hiring Leach for their vacancy

Lol try harder please!

Everything I said in that statement was TRUE. Also some people......”including” yourself want to “get” someone so bad......you act like Pruitt has done WAY more than he ever has (yet).

Come on man if you NEED to “get” someone......try harder.
I am very proud of the turnaround (I’ve said it over and over). I think Pruitt is “now” doing a fine job; however Tennessee still hasn’t beaten anyone of note, Tennessee (under Pruitt’s leadership) has still under achieved....again (hopefully that has ended).

Name just ONE championship team--conference or otherwise--upon which Leach has been a member of the staff...

Man who cares. There are many good coach’s that aren’t. Mullen would never get to the seccg while at State either.

Lol what in the world does that have to do with anything? Seriously?

Leach and his team sucked it up. Pruitt and his team improved.

If you feel the “need” to “get” someone.....try and make it something real......something that makes sense.....and something relevant.

When did we lose to Rutgers or Georgia Tech?

Why he didn't hire one in the Pac 12 is beyond me.

It’s my opinion that he would struggle to get an SEC quality DC to come here. His offense, when rolling scores quick which means the defense is on the field more. When his offense is struggling(a lot of 3 and outs with little time off the clock because he basically throws it every down) the defense is on the the field more. Either way, his defenses are typically on the field more. Established DCs do not want to be in that position every game. And do not dislike Mike Leach. I believe he’s a very good football coach.

What I think people are trying to say is.........Leach's style of coaching offense isn't complimentary to good defense. Traditionally, his teams throw the ball, alot. Which is great, if it is successful. If not, it leaves your defense on the field, alot. Tired defenses make BIG MISTAKES. Plus, UT's defensive depth, at this point, isn't complimentary to having the defense on the field for an inordinate amount of time.

How many conference championships has he won in 20 years as a power 5 head coach in the two worst P5 conferences in America? I know Dykes and Price won some at the same schools, so it must not be impossible.
