2020 qb comparison/talk/debate (merged)

So he stated later that it was like foriegn language especially for a freshman. A 4th year college QB should be able to adjust like the 100s of others that do so...
Experienced QBs struggle in new offenses all the time. Just look at what Jake Fromm went through at UGA this year with a new OC and different receivers. Completion %, Y/A and QBR fell like a rock.

People say that because those guys played with the teams they did. The TEAMS were better. No one would ever argue that Bradshaw was in any way superior to Peyton as a quarterback. Put Peyton on the Steelers' teams that Bradshaw played on and my God...they would have been unbeatable.

Screw that, put Johnny Unitas on the Rams team of his day. Roman Gabriel was OK, but replaced with Johnny Unitas--wow.

u do know JG has been in a new offense basically every year he's been at UT, right?
I thought about that. But how can I justify rating him off his Hs numbers from 4 years ago when he’s started here for 3? Not sure anyone would want me to do that anyway..... his Hs numbers suggest he was woefully overrated.

May be the fifth most talented next year.

Since you want to do number rankings lets go. I won't use experience because that gives JG an unfair advantage.

More like fourth or fifth if we are going by raw talent.

He can't throw like JG or Bailey and he can't run like Holiday.
And btw....just for the record you NEVER give anyone a 10. It falls under the unwritten rule of “there’s always room for improvement”. Therefore, even on an evaluation based on tenths, the highest you can get is a 9.9. Giving Holliday a 10 is suggesting he can’t get any faster.
In this case of comparisons there’s no need for “tenths” because the qbs are so different. But if we were to evaluate Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence and Jamarcus Russell together on terms of arm strength you’d need tenths. TL and JF threw 72. JR threw nearly 80. So TL, JF get a 9.5 where JR would get a 9.8 because no one has ever thrown it farther but he can still improve.
I’m not making an attempt to discredit you this time. I’m telling you this because you showed willingness to try your own and I actually respect that.

One of my all-time favorite QBs was Johnny Unitas. Dude was fun to watch. I guess I’m showing my age.

GO VOLS

Please, you can do better. You left room on the first page for some to comment on your EXTREME dislike of JG. Better get your whining in gear for next year, because if he doesn't transfer, JG will be the starting QB next year until they feel Harrison Bailey or Jimmy Holiday are ready to take over.

You clearly haven’t kept up. I constantly defended JG for 2 years running because I thought he was unfairly targeted, unfairly criticized, especially during and after the 2018 season. Gave my reasoning why, backed up it with applicable stats that showed he wasn’t actually as awful as so many said on here.

Then this year happened, and it became clear to me that he’s just not the answer at QB for us going forward, given his inconsistent, uneven play. Especially given that Maurer is on the roster (clearly better, just needs more coaching, experience and needs to stay healthy) and Bailey is coming in. Hell, even Shrout made a couple throws/plays in limited time that JG can’t.

I don’t have “extreme dislike”, I recognize that the team and program is bigger than the reclamation project that Pruitt and staff persist with regarding JG. We simply have better options, guys with higher ceilings than JG.

Anyway, just found this post/article interesting by PFF. After posting positive post after positive post after positive post regarding JG over the last 2 years, just providing some balance now that the stats which reflect his performance have turned the other direction. Don’t shoot the messenger, just hope that the starting QB at Tenn can get better....much better.

59. QUINTEN DORMADY, CENTRAL MICHIGAN CHIPPEWAS
Year: Senior

After bouncing around from Tennessee to Houston then Central Michigan, Dormady finally got the starting job he wanted. But his 64.2 passing grade for the Chippewas explains why he didn't catch on as a starter earlier.

Bowl matchup: San Diego State in the New Mexico Bowl

If only that were true. I've never seen a QB struggle so much to throw a simple swing pass to the HB.
Watching our new QB HB he seemed to be able to just lay the ball right out in his receivers hands a lot...but he was like 3 feet taller than everyone he played against so maybe that helped..

So KB was throwing shade at JG?

All I did was post the Dormady ranking with no added comment.

I guess pFF was the one throwing shade. 🤷‍♂️

I guess, but there was no need in bringing QD into the thread. Neither ranking is a good look. I still think JG can resurrect his career and possible pro outlook if he stays here next year under JC’s coaching, but that was your attempt to change the conversation prove that JG was the better QB and you know it.

This is easily the most irrelevant post in the history of this forum. "Oh, look, a quarterback we let transfer because he stunk is ranked lower than our current QB who many of us really wish would transfer so our offense next year isn't handcuffed by him."

You still cant get over QD beating out JG for the starting role.

Your post about my post being irrelevant is even more irrelevant.

People that want him to transfer are dumb when the other options are guys that were worse last year and two true freshmen. lmao

I don't have to prove that. That was established a couple of years ago.

It was an interesting tidbit.
