The Impeachment Thread

It is "un-credible" to suggest: 1) it was a perfect phone call; 2)Ukraine didn't even know the aid had been withheld, 3) Trump said no quid pro quo so there was no quid pro quo

All these are talking points from Repubs. Rational people recognize they are exaggerating at best, blatantly deceiving more likely.

Thus the stalemate in the electorate. Dems believe Dems; Reps believe Reps; Independents are split leaning away from impeachment.

I don't understand the first question but yes if it's 55-45 either way then a nuclear option like impeachment is a bad idea.
Public Opinion on Impeachment: Lessons from Watergate | Monmouth University Polling Institute
Check out Nixon and the percent of people who agreed with impeachment/removal from office at different stages of the process.
Should congress have been more a reflection of public sentiment or was public sentiment more a reflection of congressional action? Which is more appropriate?

I wonder if you read that article. Stack up the Watergate related events including all the criminal activity that was revealed to the public against what is accused here. It's comparing reckless driving to 1st degree murder.

As to which is more appropriate? Always public sentiment - that's the nature of our system. You've repeatedly argued about "society" deciding.

I did read it, paying particular attention to the time line.

Glad to have a fellow "public sentiment" guy on board. Society almost always ultimately decides.

Are there people in here that actually believe Trump will get impeached? Especially with virtually no evidence to support it? I mean lol.
Impeach just means to bring charges against. Unfortunately, that looks like that is going to happen tomorrow. The word impeach has no connection to guilt or innocence. To impeach is to bring charges.

Given your devotion to public sentiment why do you support impeachment if the plurality (in the most polling data) is against it? Is your opinion more important than the plurality?

I'm interested in seeing how many dims in districts that Trump won vote yes. Then seeing what the fallout will be i.e. recall votes, etc..
