My take...

The men played hard. Pretty much a one possession game after everyone settled in. Don't be down on them. We lost 4 starters and the new pieces haven't quite meshed yet. One positive that I was impressed with was Josiah James' team leading 14 pts. He's intense and is going to lead this team as his confidence grows. Yes, Turner and Bowden were in a shooting funk but so was everyone else. And it just proved that the timeline on getting guys like Gaines, James, Nkamhoue, and Pember into the flow somewhat quicker may be necessary. The more court time they get, the more confident and comfortable they will get.

So we're disappointed but you can learn from a tough game like that and use it going forward. Like JJJ said, if you don't learn from it, it's more than a one game loss. Scrappy team. They want to win. Sometimes it just takes a while for new guys to blend in and get acclimated to the college game. Some of Calipari's teams struggle over half a year before meshing as a unit. Another good opponent in Cincy coming up.

I had a bad feeling about a 10-day layoff ahead of this game. As it turned out If we'd just shoot poorly we win - instead we shot horribly, like we'd never seen those rims before. Longest spell without a game the whole season didn't help imo

Tennessee is not very good. I hope I am wrong, but I think the season is about to get ugly when conference play starts.

I said I hope I am wrong. But good teams don't shoot 20%. At least they don't shoot 20% more than once. They go on the road against Kentucky, Auburn, Florida and they are going to get hammered.

Yes because Florida has looked like a real juggernaut 🙄, their fanbase is saying the exact same things lol

I can't even go to a game that UT isn't playing? You got me there.
you cant give money and support a rival school and claim to be a true UT fan...

you really dont see anything wrong with donating money to the likes of Alabama or Florida or Memphis?

Well, I haven't donated any money to any of these but, no, I don't see anything wrong with it. Seems charitable. Got to be careful though. If you give money, you can never be helpful to an athlete that might go there in the future. Ask Penny about that one.

if you paid to go to a Memphis game, you gave their athletic department money

How about for the 40 minutes of actual play? I know that nothing is going to change any time soon with the seating assignment, but having the students locked in at one end and all the good sideline seating occupied by grandfathered ticket-holders and a generally-older crowd does not lead to a terribly hostile environment.

The offense didn't give the crowd much to yell about yesterday, but fans should get loud for the defense, as well. With such close proximity, they really can disrupt the opposition.
In all sincerity, our students aren't the most pro-active.

He is not able to handle the pressure yet. He's awkward because this is a different level of basketball.

If Pember can gain 30 to 35 pounds, he can be a beast at the power forward and center positions.
He's 207 now. I don't ever see him being 237-242. I trust the strength and conditioning coach to get him to his proper weight.

That’s a solid observation. This is the worst roster we’ve had in a long time. Watching them run around in the game today was cringe worthy at times. It’s hard to understand after all the success of late why we don’t have more players. And agree...the makeup of the team is bad.

Transfers, we were a year or so away from having the depth/talent on the roster to offset losing guys early or to transfer.

From 2019 we've lost: Grant, Admiral, Kyle, Bone, Walker, Kent, Burns

Walker was playing 5+ a game and appeared in 30 games last year, he wasn't just on the bench like Kent/Burns. Burns was also, unfortunately the only recruit in his class.

Doesn't help that Jalen Johnson as a 4th year guy is being out produced by 3 freshman, with Pember likely to pass his production soon as well.

Bottom line is, gotta make open shots. We held them to 51. Any team would have normally won a game where they held there opponent to 51, unless they miss a ton of shots.

Not sure why. We are easily better than half the conference. Then you just win a couple at home. All we have to do is go 10-8 in conference, and we are fine.
