On field results lead to big recruits?

Posting this thread here because recruiting can directly be impacted either positively or negatively by results on the field.

Tennessee is on an awe inspiring win streak. So let’s not over speculate or start rumors but I do have a simple question:
With the way we are winning and the recruiting pedigrees of this staff (Pruitt. Ansley, and T. Martin alone are known as bomb national recruiters) why are we ranked 20 nationally?

If Butch can get guys to come here after showing year over year he cannot develop talent- I’m excited to see how well we could develop 4&5 star talent with these coaches who are known for player development.

Butch chased stars and it got him nowhere. It's better to target guys that fit your scheme regardless of star rating. I don't think Clemson has even 1 year with a top 5 recruiting class and only 4 years under Dabo with a top 10 recruiting class.

Webb was one of the best blends of Speed and Power that we ever had I thought. Garner was shifty similar to Grey except for the fact that Garner was nearly impossible to tackle and ALWAYS fell forward. Those guys were legit 5'10+ and Grey is more 5'9 or less.
Webb was 5’9” 201 lbs

Garner was 5’10” 190 lbs

Gray is 5’10” 194 lbs

Not a notable size difference between them. Comparing Eric Gray to Charlie Garner right now is like comparing round steak to filet mignon. Size doesn’t tell the whole story with running backs.

I have no idea about Gary's ability but Barry Sanders, a Pro Bowl selection every year he played pro ball, was about 5' 8" and 200 pounds.

IF on field results equals big time recruits (in other words, a winning season) we should see a large crop of 4-5 star HS players signing LOI's with us soon. Now would be the time to push for those players that can help the program, do not wait until after a bowl game as we may not win the bowl game. If winning gets us great recruits, it is fair to say, not winning results in less than great recruits. If we do not win our bowl game, we could lose great recruits. Our clock is-a-ticking.

Gray is same height as Garner and if he's 195 as I saw listed, ten pounds larger. I remember Garner as quick and shifty, not particularly fast but great shake and bake. I'd be surprised if he was notably faster than Gray's 40/4.57.
Gray isn’t in Garner’s league from a pure athlete/running back standpoint. Garner was special, quickest feet I’ve ever seen on a running back. Gray has potential to be a good, solid running back here, while Garner was special.....one of the 4-5 best running backs ever at Tennessee imo.

I don't think Grey is ever gonna have the size or speed to be special. He's got potential to be a productive back in college but never a feature back at the SEC level.
Dandre Swift 5'9, 215 as a JUNIOR-he seems to be pretty good, he plays for UGA. Gray 5'10 195 HS, he'll put on plenty of muscle over the next three or four years. I think you are being a little quick in discounting his potential. I don't know how big and fast you need to be in order to be a top back in the SEC, and I'm sure it changes from season to season, but Gray could be great in a few years.

No doubt if he gets bigger stronger and faster. He definitely had a great day today.

It would be almost a medical abnormality for an 18 year old man, coming to UT, being professionally coached in our weight room, correct diet, professional coaching on the field etc. not to get bigger/ stronger/ faster-unless he is physically hurt, even then, he'll grow. He has offers from at least 20 schools to include LSU, Penn ST and Michigan-they must see something in him.

We'll get some high-rank recruits. But if we go up against a good bowl team, like Iowa, Virginia, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Minnesota, or Indiana and win - expect a top 10 - 15 ranked recruiting haul. Especially if we keelhaul the opponent.

I get the feeling that some on this staff will be looking for new jobs if they dont step it up in recruiting. We need to be constantly top 5 in SEC if we hope to compete for SEC championships. Right now we are 8th in the SEC, that's not going to cut it.

Truer words have never been spoken! Maybe not just top five, we need to have better recruits than LSU, BAMA, GA and FL (or at least equal) for at least one year if not Every year. It doesn't matter if our team is getting better, if the other teams are also getting better. I don't know how many guys are actually going to make their final decision on which school to play for, based on a bowl game, but if it is even one, and that's the one we need..... You said it best-"...step it up in recruiting."

Gray stated last night his personal best was 4.39 and showed it last night.

He showed speed against Vandy. In the post game interview, he claimed a 4.39/40.
If that's the case and he can get physical enough to not be arm tackled then he could become special, and if he does that he'll be one of the few scatback type guys to do so. I think he's going to have some productive moments in Knoxville I just think Pruitt's style dictates a physical athletic back to be it's mainstay. There will most definitely be cases where Grey can be special and vs a slower Vandy defense Saturday was one of those days.
