'20 TN ATH Reggie Grimes (Oklahoma commit)

Not upset at all just a lot of nonsense being said. Also not all 3 of thise Whitehaven kids who I've had the pleasure to see and work with up close are better. Grimes is more fluid than all 3 of those kids and can do more things in particular. Only one of the 3 even compares athletically. Ijs and i have spoken on our kids too when i didn't think they were what they were said to be. Ppl speaking on his dad and all that, i mean dad wasn't some all world All American but was big body with nice athleticism. As i said before scheme and responsibility is different for all players. This kid has sacks and ints and tds wkly. Its not like he's missing in action. There are zero times he showed up in the stat column. Now he goes hard every down or play can be questioned but to me that can be nitpicking for any position or player. Anyways GBO
Why do you think big programs aren’t pushing for him? Clemson passed, Bama appears to be passing, even UT seems torn and not pushing hard and we need all the elite athletes we can get. So what’s the truth as to why he’s likely ending up at USC?

It's common sense. You don't white flag your state's top prospect if you truly have any aspirations of recaiming dominion over your own back yard.

I love Tennessee High School Football.
And it's getting better and better. But Georgia is more important for the VOLS.
Smart has done a great job locking down that state and look at the results. 3 SEC Title game appearances straight now...

And Pruitt has done a good job of getting In-State guys. Lawrence, Mays, and The Whitehaven trio are huge recruiting pulls.

But guess what? Penn State hates us right now. Mordecai McDaniel and Dominic Bailey are two of the better prospects on the Atlantic Coast, both heavily recruit by them.
Yet Penn State has controlled Pennsylvania very well.

O Thomas is probably the best prospect in TN. Then Lawrence at 2. After that it's a mixed bag that doesn't include Grimes in the remaining top 10.
Grimes has to become more confident in his play...

I've seen Reggie run and jump. McDonald from an athletic standpoint can compete but he's only 220 anyway.

I'm talking about HOW he effects his team, and how he effects the game.

No his father wasn't some superstar, but "he" should be! Hes so...physically gifted.

with the team he plays on, he should have triple the stats and Ravenwood would she be clear favorites to when it all.

What would be really cool is if he dominates these last 3 games and watch the Colleges fight over him instead of second guessing him like they are now.

GA sure hasn't locked down the state this year.

This is true even though TN is expected to, but GA has 2 of the top 10 losing players to Clemson, Alabama, LSU and Auburn. So they can't claim they are not trying to get those. (NM. They are lol)

And UGA has a 5 star LB committed from Out of State, and the top RB from California.

Oh, now you were bragging about Smart locking down his state. They have not this year. And even though Tennessee did not get any like Wanya this year, I think we will be able to join the other poachers in the coming years and force Smart to have to go out of state instead of relying on those players choosing the home state the way they have for decades...not just Smart. Giving him too much credit.

Top prospect by who’s ranking? You think Pruitt gives a damn about rivals or 247’s ranking? Again the legit fact is you and others beating the drum to land this kid wouldn’t know who the hell he is on tape if it weren’t pointed out for you.

The success he has had In-State is directly correlated to his success on the field.

I'm not sure what you're getting confused about...

I said UTs priority should be the state of Georgia. Not "Locking down" the state of Tennessee.

And yes UGA is recruiting out of state well as in-state. Just like we should be....hence the whole recruit Georgia thing???

Furthermore...
25 scholarships a piece every year right?
If UT and UGA were guaranteed that the top 50 recruits in GA had to sign with either one of them and noone else...

It would be TN and UGA vying for the SEC East ever year. On the other hand...UT could be guaranteed the top 25 prospects in TN sign with them, every year, and they aren't winning the division ever year...

Have you guys considered that he’s just waiting to get to college. He might just need a college program to get him motivated and let him shine. I played high school ball with two kids who did much better in the SEC and NFL. Just an honest thought, maybe he’s another Malik grey, I haven’t followed him other than this thread.

I am not confused. You were bragging about Smart locking down the state of GA in recruiting.

I said he did NOT this year. He got 2 of the top 10.

You then started bragging about him getting top talent from out of state.

Simple....he has not locked down the state of GA this year.

Which I hope continues.

Does not have anything to do with you bragging about Smart locking down the state, and me saying he didn't this year because of Clemson, Alabama, LSU and Auburn.

Only 23 tackles is certainly a Huge Red Flag

Depends. Teams could just run opposite side and double triple team him all game. Then playing both sides of ball that can wear in anyone. I’ve never watched him so don’t know since I never expected him to come here. 7.5 sacks is a decent sign that he has it in him.

Ok I have held back for long enough. See the thing here is you're saying real silly stuff. The difference between Grimes and kids at BGA is they still have to earn offers while he has all the offer letters in his possession. The problem here is many of you don't get "it". In reality we want to see a kid jump off the screen when watching them play, but in some instances a kid might back down for business purposes. Well in Grimes has all the offers he needs. Whether commitable or not he was offered. Mark my words and hear me clearly when whomever signs this kid they're getting a supreme athlete. He does make plays just check the hghlights from last weeks playoff game. The damn kid played Rb, Fb, TE, H-back, Lb, and DE. When referring to Maleik Gray there is NO comparison here. Maleik simply would make ZERO plays in a game and have zero catches as a Wr. What happened with Gray was the fact that he worked hard in MS, also he was bigger than most everyone and we trained him. All the accolades went to his head then he stopped working and became very average. There was one game Lavergne played I think Blackman and they ran the ball the entire game. He started at Wr and played Lb and SS. The kid did not make one single tkl. The is no such game you can pull up on Grimes like this. The only kid in the mid TN area who plays Lb who is as athletic with talent and ability is JR Colson from Ravenwood.

I don’t think people are saying he’s not a good athlete. Ive watched this kid now for years, since he was in the 6th grade. I watched him play football, basketball and run track! I know his family and have a love one that played these sports with or against him. Yes he has offers and yes he’s ranked the top player in TN, true! But what people are saying and l agree with is these accolades aren’t deserving. I personally rooting for him and all the kids in middle TN and from NPA. You guys have done great things for kids for years now. l expect a 5 star player to make more than a few plays a game that Grimes make. I expect him to dominate which he doesn’t. I’ve watched a few games this year either in person or on tv and the kid looks lost and soft. We do agree on one thing is Junior is a beast but even he had a down year to me too. The kid that committed to Duke, Bryan Rice DE and Myles Dawson DE make way more plans than Reggie. IMO LB Damon Owens the Brentwood transfer was the best linebacker on the team.

The services get it right more often than not on the elite guys. How do you think ROY awards are doled out? Whether or not you want to admit it, a Rivals ranking means something to the general public who don't self scout and/or completely discount anything that might suggest our staff isn't getting the players that they really want. Even if it's nothing more than one service's opinion, it's an opinion that matters and that will be cited incessantly by media and opponents as an example of how we're not getting it done.

The only getting it done that matters is wins and losses on the field.

Look.. some of y’all need to realize the state of Tennessee isn’t as good as y’all are making it to be, high school talent wise. There’s 1A teams in Georgia that could compete and probably beat some of the 6A teams here. Grimes wasn’t even a semifinalist for Mr. Football in his division and they play a weak schedule for the most part. That’s a serious red flag for the supposed number 1 player in the state. He’s overrated and should be a mid 3 star at best but because he’s good at camps and dad went to Bama, he gets the boost. Nothing about his film pops and he doesn’t dominate in an average at best division of HS football. Of the 2020 players in the state, the only ones that are actually SEC caliber are

Keshawn
Omari
Baron
Hardy
Henderson
Cooper
Small
Whitehaven trio
Hodge
Walker
MAYBE Young or Adonai

Everyone else just isn’t worth it. I think we need to stop lying to ourselves that this kids a priority just because of the bought ranking next to his name. We need to do that with a lot of in state players because the football here is severely overhyped. Jimari Butler whos already committed is a better football player than Grimes.

There’s a reason Alabama’s passing on him, were passing on him, Oklahoma’s passing on him.. everyone has passed on him. SC would be if it wasn’t for Muschamp needing a good recruiting ranking to give some sort of hope to the fans. He’s not gonna develop into an elite talent, so just give it up. Let’s go get Morven Joseph for this spot.

So there I said it. Enough of this “lock down the state” nonsense . I don’t care if a kids from the moon, just give me the best 25 we can get. Grimes is a great kid, really smart.. can’t cut it on the football field.
