Gray is 3rd in rushing yardage for true freshmen in conference, Ealy and Spiller are the only ones ahead of him. Both were higher rated RBs coming outta HS too. But neither of them is 3rd in a RBBC situation either.

Spiller leads the team in carries, Ealy is 2nd in carries among RBs. And A&M/Ole Miss both are better running teams than us currently.

Gray was a GREAT recruit coming out of HS. Had the ratings, the stars, the rankings, all the stats.

Has he been GREAT as a freshman RB? No he's not. But he's not been bad either, I think him not going through spring ball hurt his production this season. But either you're arguing about him as a recruit or you're arguing about him as a college player, can't play both sides. Cause using hindsight I can tell you Bryce Brown was a bust, but absolutely no one thought he wasn't a GREAT recruit.

We’re just arguing semantics at this point. Top 50 player is someone i would consider a GREAT recruit.

Who has Rumph brought in?

247 Timeline says... Jordan Allen, Trevon Flowers, Roman Harrison, Quavaris Crouch, & Kenney Solomon (him as the primary)

Secondary recruiter in this class just Hyatt

So if anything you could point to Rumph as being a lesser recruiter than even Rocker, at least based on how 247 list things.

He had a good first three weeks.

But again, I’m not complaining about Eric Gray. I love him and think he’ll be a really good player. He might break the all time rushing record here if he stays long enough.

My point is just that - other than BYU - I don’t think he’s been a difference maker. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have signed him or shouldn’t have been very happy to sign him. I just assumed Pruitt would land more Bryce Browns or Jalen Hurds.

What does that point have to with the back/forth with Hank and I about him as a recruit? Again if everyone was able to recruit with hindsight then we'd never "miss" on anyone. Now if you want to discuss YAC being -as good- as Jay Graham or Robert Gillespie as far as recruiting goes...then sure he's not on their level.

The consensus is that Gray was a great recruit, based on his stars, his composite rating, his HS accomplishments, his national ranking etc. I'm not just pulling it out of my own backside here...

But sure, based on your -just now- defined personal opinion that he needs to be a Top 50 player to be considered GREAT. No he isn't.

YAC is a good coach and good recruiter. Not sure we should be looking to replace him but it does seem possible to upgrade if Pruitt wants to go that route.

I’d be fine either way. Pruitt has to win games and he’ll do whatever it takes to make sure of it.

What I’m thinking. We have to be liking what he’s doing with the OLB’s, but Lupoi is respected coaching that position group. Thing is, you don’t have to fire Rumph...he gets offered every year.

Dude is dead on....a 1 game over .500 former HC for Rutgers when they were in the soft as pudding Big East demanding anything while UNEMPLOYED is laughable.

Butch is probably one of the best hires they could make, despite all he did badly here that mess will work for a lower tier Rutgers.

And that’s the biggest point. We’ll have a handful of assistant coaches who will get calls to move, either for more money, more responsibility or both.

This isn’t all about what Pruitt wants to do.

3/10 of our all time highest recruits have been RBs. Not even counting guys like kamara, Hurd, etc. especially RBs being such an instant impact position. If you’re an elite RB prospect you usually make it known pretty quick even if your team sucks. Just like cam Akers has.

Truth...I'm sure almost every coach on the staff will get someone calling. Chaney & Ansley might not...since I doubt either is getting a HC call and both are very well paid coordinators. But ya best believe if we manage to finish on a 5 game winning streak and make a bowl with the sort of improvement in season we've seen from the team coaches will be contacted and someone will leave.

Honestly at this point I'm just hoping Ty Chandler sees that he could have a MONSTER senior season with the way the OL has played and how many guys return next year with more talent incoming.

Chandler is a wildcard. He has a child im pretty sure and will test very well at the combine. I could see him leaving.

We’ll need Lupoi. I bet Niedermeyer is gone by Feb to a promoted title somewhere else.

Starting to sound like Bruin man...

You keep bring up new names of RBs, and still keep missing the point. Gray isn't getting the same level of touches as all these "elite RB prospects" he's 3rd, his best 3 showings he got more touches and looked good. Hasn't had many opportunities since, partly because Jordan has gotten healthier and partly because Ty has been playing better.

I see a lot of talk about Rocker not recruiting, but what about Rumph? Has he done anything? I forgot he was even coaching here.

He'll test well I'm sure. But has anyone really been all that impressed with Chandler? I personally haven't. He does some good things. He hasn't been nearly as involved in the passing game as he was last year. I expected a big year for him and it's starting to set in he may not be as dynamic as I thought.

It’s about the jimmies and the joes more than the X and O’s. Look at Butch, monster class with Barnett, Hurd, Dobbs, etc.. We won eight games with just having better players. Recruiting fell off and so did our wins and losses. I would rather have a mix of great recruiters and great developers. It seems like we have more developers on staff now. We need a couple more Nieds. I am ok with two of Rocker, Sherrer, Rumph, or YAC beyond upgraded with elite recruiters because our staff is good at developing. I think you can tell who may be replaced by those whose contracts are close to expiring soon.

Auburn boosters timed their play perfectly. It stinks, but that’s the game. The team is tending up and the recruiting push we expected this year is delayed till next year because of the beginning of the season.

Rebuild is behind schedule but I still think we are in a good place. Not ready to panic but if you are still expecting a Top 10 class put your disappointment undies on
