'20 TN DE Jay Hardy (Auburn commit)

Then why continue to tell everyone he's committed to UT up until the announcement? Why tell other recruits your solid to TN after the Auburn visit and just days before your announcement? What really has people upset is the dishonesty with how he handled this. If he didn't feel the love, tell the staff you feel more wanted by Auburn and that's your decision. Don't continue to make them believe you're solid.

Weezer you probably know Go Fight Win is one of the best posters on the boards. Give it time brother. Truth will probably come out. It may not be pretty but we may soon find out.

Not going to bash you. Just don't agree with how he handled it if you're right. There is a right and wrong way that real men handle things, and we understand your word means everything.
This is true and Go Fight Win is a very good poster over the years. I always like what he says. But we really just don't know what happened for sure at this time.

you've been following this recruiting game for years 88... we are dealing with 17 year olds...

I think using the word "lying" is harsh.. dishonest? Maybe a bit? maybe he was truly grappling the decision-- chase the hometown dream or follow the school that has actually been proactive in the recruitment and shown him they want him? It's hard but you gotta look out for your future.

Maybe he is buying that Rocker won't be around much longer? Same argument for Gus too but hey, who knows who's selling what?

at the end of the day-- this really friggin blows. I hope the staff learns from this. I personally think Pruitt makes big changes in the offseason.
you calling me old?

Here is what we absolutely do know. He told the coaches this summer he was on board. He told current commits Monday that he was on board.

maybe just maybe the visit to AUB was confirmation that they REALLY did want him, and the visits with the vols did the opposite?

maybe he REALLY wanted to be a vol but lackluster recruiting from our end pushed him away?

after months of having to do the work himself in his recruitment to TN, one trip to AUB was all he needed to see that another school might've just wanted him more? Vols staff could've just believed him to be a lock and focused energy elsewhere. Has happened to TN so many times..Auburn probably just beat Rocker & Sherrer in recruiting this kid straight up.

Hate playing devil's advocate, but having seen the inside before, this easily could've played out this way.

also INB4 "But BAGMEN DUDE!!"

we all have bagmen. Everyone does. Everyone spends money. I have zero doubt in my mind we would pony up what is necessary. When cash is a wash-- it comes down to who wants the kid more. I do believe Auburn just showed him they wanted him more. Pruitt will be replacing some staff this offseason.

I've said this for a while that when it comes to bagmen, we are way behind. Auburn, Clemson, GA, AL, LSU take it to an entirely different level. They all have systems in place that make ours look like the booster club at some rural highschool. It takes years to develop that system. Our cheat game had dwindled to nothing by the end of the Butch error. After Kiffin, Dooley, and then Butch, the sources for these funds had all but dried up. It takes a lot of effort to get them back.

(All conjecture in my part. 😉)
If we have a bagman, and I'm not saying we don't, we should be ashamed of ourselves. Not because we have a bagman but because we're so bad at it :):):). Here's the thing that I don't fully understand----Our staff has been around some major programs that appear to have shady recruiting practices---you would think they would remember how it's done ;););).

poster from VQ with 14 posts in 5 years

His cousin came into college station in Chattanooga Yesterday morning while I was working. Bought some hats for his commitment. Said auburn booster came up to his family On the visit and said they would match Any amount the vols offered or more. Said it’s a bidding war for these kids. He said his mom really wanted him to go to auburn & dad wanted him at UT. I didn’t believe him so he started pulling up convos with gus about how auburn was recruiting his sister to play basketball for the lady’s team. She’s a junior at signal mountain. And Then pulled up pics of him & hardy with Gus, pruitt, and some coach from Ohio state

Had a chat with Coach K earlier. From someone who was on those visits, it really sounds like we dropped the ball. All those visits to UT were apparently of Jay's own volition, not because he was being asked and invited all the time. AUB was constantly begging him to come. They also put a major emphasis on academics (Jay wants to be an engineer), we didn't. AUB was just more consistent it sounds like. Rocker is a good coach, but man, he seems to disappear on the trail. Doesn't sound like its over though, so stop trashing the kid for ****s sake.

Beyond that, we have to focus on winning THIS year, and recruiting will work itself out in the long term. Winning fixes everything. Worry about the ones we get, etc etc etc.
Lol...no way that is true if he was still committed as of Monday! either way somebody is lying.

I don't think you'd know truth if it bit you on your ass. You obviously have a narrative and you'll stick to it, even if proven wrong.
Sorry you feel that way. People should always be able to disagree. I don't think you guys should degrade people that post differently than what you feel or have been led to believe over time. I hope you come to see things differently.

It's a ****ing marathon, not a sprint. If there was ever a kid that would be a candidate for a late flip IT'S THIS ****ING KID. He's not signing until Feb. Let's win out, let's watch AUB drop two in a row, and then let it all sort itself out by Feb. But let's try to stop burning the bridge in the meantime. Take deep breaths, people.
I think he burned it himself with what LA said about the coaches and the recruiting core of in state guys. I don’t believe for one second we didn’t make him a priority. What is a family suppose to say? They gave me $100,000 so he pledged there. No, he is going to say that they felt more welcomed and at home at said school.

I see it the same way Go Fight Win does. He's a great poster.

He is. He is speculating like a lot of us, though his speculation has a lot more credence to me than most other people's speculation. I just can't believe that this staff would drop the ball like this, unless something suddenly changed.

Yeah I know. I just keep looking for the real truth to come out. I understand how we all feel because we just knew we had him. I was all up yesterday and then saw the Auburn commit by his name and was shocked to say the least. We just want to see the Vols get to the top ASAP. Some things I just can't understand right now.

Straight up disappointing is all I know. We need our talented in-state kids. This happening is one reason we got into this mess and not going to help us get out. That's two highly rated DE's basically flipping on us.

I just want to remind everyone what Aubrey Solomon said just yesterday: "This was the one coach that didn’t bash for me my decision. He understood and he was like, ‘You know what, if anything ever happens, I’m one phone call away, you’ve always got me.’ That really stuck with me, and as you can see I’m here now, so it truly stuck with me.”

If Pruitt--whose job (and millions of dollars) is directly affected by these types of things--can act this way, so can we. This stuff matters to players, especially ones that read this board. Let's pull together, let's have faith something can happen in the future. Its really the only productive thing we can possibly do.

Please. You came in blasting the staff, certain they had screwed up, in no way being civil. Someone suggests the staff is to blame and you glom onto their rep to push your narrative. I believe it very possible the staff made a mistake, but that in no way explains the dishonesty from Hardy. People want the whole picture, not just a part, but you've obviously settled on the "blame the staff" part without addressing any of the rest of it. But you apparently understand the not taking responsibility for your own actions given how you're now acting like a wounded duck after coming in like a complete ass hole. That's why you got blasted. If you want respect, show respect. From the get go, not after you find someone else's coattails to ride.

Said some good stuff about Rocker too. But, we've already fired him. Don't know what to think about these Instate kids anymore....
