Do we have a five way quarterback controversy brewing next year?

Bailey will bail most likely once he realizes he might have a greater income potential at another school. Welcome to the new world of recruiting

He's not interested in reading anything that proves him wrong. Remember when he kept challenging for "stats".... then ducked for cover when they were provided?

He wants JG to be the starter. Bailey doesn't threaten that. Maurer does. Therefore Maurer isn't any good... and Bailey must be good.[/
It is kind of funny when he brings things up that even he obviously hasn’t looked at. He would’ve NEVER touched the evaluations if he had.

JG, JT Shrout, Kasim Hill, Brian Maurer, and Harrison Bailey all battling for the spot next year? Boy, this is going to be fun!

Seriously doubt JG is on the roster next year and Hill will most likely be the guy who came in at one position but is a team player and plays wherever to help out.

Lol. Not a chance he starts over Maurer as a true freshman if Maurer is healthy. You guys are putting way, way too much stock into Bailey. He’ll very likely redshirt next year imho.

I do love the writing off of Shrout...... I honestly don't believe we have seen the last of him. Appears we will have a plethora of options at QB this offseason, but I don't think it is cut and dry as people saying its going to be Maurer vs Bailey.

I think JG is gone. Why not? Even if he finishes relatively strongly to finish the year, everyone still holds their collective breath every time he breaks the huddle because we know what we’ve seen for 3+ years now. People are just waiting to jump all over him anticipating his next mistake. He knows that, the coaches are expecting it, the fans are expecting it. To me, that’s no way to finish your career. The kid has to be exhausted from the constant anxiety that comes from being the QB1 at UT and especially given his documented stress level between the ears. I think everyone needs a clean break here, because everyone is worn out.

I hope JG goes to a comfortable situation for himself. Is that the State University of New Jersey? I don‘t know. Maybe. Hopefully he finds a good landing spot where he finds success.

I think Jarrett Guarantano will graduate transfer to a team closer to home in the Northeast. I think there will be a 4 way quarterback competition in the spring and summer and Brian Maurer will come out as the #1 quarterback.

I said it earlier in this thread, but I doubt HB redshirts next year. You just don't see that happen very much anymore with highly touted guys. I'm sure they've told him hes going to have a legit shot to win the job and play a lot next year.
And he should have a legitimate shot. If he's better than Maurer and the others, he should start. My guess is that he won't be, at least not at the start of the year.

If JG stays, it will be because of things off the field, not on it, IMO. Friendships, school, et al.

Agreed.

Tend to think the competitive spirits has him moving somewhere with a better shot to play though.

Shrout and Maurer ostensibly should improve with additional time in the system where it seems Guarantano has hit his ceiling.

If Bailey does come, which I don't think he will unless he is guarnteed to start, which I don't see Pruitt doing that. I still look for Bailey to decomit, but hope he doesn't. If he does come I think he redshirts, jg transfers, if he doesn't then maurer or shout one transfers, I hope jg transfers. So I am hoping next year it will be maurer, shrout, and hill competing.

Why do you see Bailey decommitting? Especially when he has been recruiting for us, is enrolling early and his dad has publicly stated that he isn’t going anywhere. Do you really think Pruitt has told Bailey he is the guaranteed starter from day 1?

The new transfer rules make this really, really easy to stick with a commitment like this. Most Fr still shouldn't expect or even want to start. Worst case he RS's a year, learns under Chaney and Weinke then finds a program that needs an immediate starter.

Judging from the number of back ups who end up starting around the SEC these days... He'd be virtually guaranteed to get his shot to start as long as he was at least #2 on the depth chart.

Hate to say it, but at this point we should just be hoping that BM’s career doesn’t get cut short due to concussions. He seems prone.

I think you are correct. I still think Maurer has skill set advantages over Shrout. However, that opinion is based on a very small sample size. Neither has really had a chance to prove themselves yet.

You have to love Shrout's arm, work ethic, and attitude. He seems to be keeping his nose to the grindstone while all this "stuff" whirls around him.

I honestly expect a Shrout v Maurer battle to decide the season starter... unless politics get involved. Sometimes a high profile recruit gets a spot in the battle... just because they're a high profile signee.

The interesting thing, there and I'm not here to debate who has said what, is that it does not seem they've confirmed a concussion. In fact, their behavior and treatment plus his apparent lack of symptoms could mean it was something else.

If he had a concussion then there's a really good bet that it was one that was aggravated in the Bama game rather than two. They sent him to Vandy for a second opinion... and then held him out one game and immediately declared him available this week. He has probably endured every test possible by now. If they had found bleeding, swelling, or any other sign then I doubt they would have cleared him. Teams today if anything err to the extreme side of caution. Twenty-five years ago he probably would have returned to the MSU game.

That's really odd treatment for someone with a concussion unless it was very, very mild.

Why would Bailey bail? He's coming here to play. He's the last on the list to transfer I think. Maurer has the most to lose, he'll leave the second JG or HB earn the starting spot. If JG closes out the year I believe he may go before the spring competition at QB gets started.

LOL... Just keep pouring the Maurer hate on....

Are you going to demand stats again?

HB may be the second coming of Manning, Shuler, and Holloway poured into one pair of shoes.... but he's proven nothing to this point except that he's a very good HS QB surrounded by more D1 talent than most HS kids play with or against in their whole careers.

One thing that troubles me a little about that... is that his teammates aren't lining up to follow him to UT. There are lots of reasons that one of them might go elsewhere... But you would think there would be more of a draw and especially considering the distance to UT compared to LSU.

I think they’re probably just keep it under wraps.

No, I don't think Pruitt told bailiey he would start, as I said in my post. This is just my opinion, I hope bailey comes to ut. I am basing my opinion on how well maurer and shrout have looked. If bailey is an intelligent man, he can see the potential these two have. And because some of his team mates are comitted to other schools. I know one to Lsu, I don't know if lsu qb is in his last year or not, but if he is lsu, and this will be tua's last year as well at bama. and one of baileys team mates are going to bama. I am all for bailey coming to ut and hope he does, I guess just afraid he won't, sounds too good to be true.
