Field position killed us that game. Not only their returns, but us trying to return kickoffs. Even out the starting FPs and man...

I get the game theory there returning kicks, but man it backfired.
What is up with Doyle? Kid was really good for us last year and now it's gotten to the point that we're pulling him for Paxton Brooks

So in my recent stat diving I came to a weird conclusion.

Helton did a better job managing JG than Chaney/Weinke have. Now that's not to say he's a better QB coach or better OC, and the "managing" could also be part of the confidence/mental block that seems now apparent with JG. But most of the issues last year offensively came from the OL, it would have been interesting to see how things went if the OL played as well last year as they have so far this season.

Chaney I'm sure is a "wide open" type of OC/coach, he's likely just not going to limit his offense to suit a QB. Either the QB can perform or he can't, unfortunately it seems JG can't.
I believe you're on to something here. It appears Helton had a really short leash on JG and Chaney may have given him a longer leash. Obviously, he needs the really short leash.

Score prediction:

If 18 takes all the snaps at QB:
Vols 24-14

If 2 takes the majority of the snaps:
Vols 17-14

If 15/9 take the majority of the snaps
13-13 OT and we win with the better kicker

If 12 takes the majority of the snaps:
USCe 24-10

And Chaney has never given the impression that he was ok with that. I get Devo's remark about suiting your offense around your players but as important as QB is, we have a lot of other players doing well.

I give anyone credit when they're right and I believe it was sjt. Harped repeatedly (pre season) that a constant, Chaney would hand the QB great responsibility and he would either thrive, or get replaced. Whoever kept saying it, was correct.

I just want to throw this out there.... why not start Jauan at QB and run RPO's and see how that works, we'll most likely be run heavy anyways if Maurer isn't playing so why not just try to pull what Kentucky pulled on us back in the Dooley days, they won't expect it and won't have prepared for it, and if nothing else it might just spark us to a couple scoring drives early on and then we can switch over to Shrout and settle into the game

Err you want Jauan to learn the complexities of RPO game and make those throws?? Or do you mean read option? I can't see anyone wanting him to go out there and make rpo decisions and throws

Read option I misspoke as can be seen in the posts afterward

I like your thinking...

You can set my house on fire, baby
You can turn it into cinder and smoke
'Cause this house is mighty cold and I feel like
Melting all the snow away

I love several of the new Tyler Childers songs, this and Bus Route are my favorite.

Colter Walls has some new songs out too that sit right with me.

still trying to decide if I like the new Sturgill Simpson stuff...

Kind of random but anyone remember a couple years ago the dad of the QB who threw to kendrell scurry and I think another (then) highly touted in state receiver? Used to post here and give updates on his son.

Kid looked decent from the clips posted here. I know scurry and whoever else kind of fell off the radar (back in ‘16-17 we all thought he’d be a 5 Star). Anyone know if he ever made it to the next level? I can’t remember the name.

I might just be pipe dreaming, who knows. But I think Bailey will change the entire dynamic of the QB room from day 1.
No doubt more talented than anyone else in the room. Just not sure his strengths align with what Chaney has been trying to push. Chaney will have to adapt. HB is more like JG than Maurer or a Haynes King type. He's not real quick twitch or a runner. Great abilties elsewhere.

We paid Pearl without having to. We paid Butch & Curry when both should have been just happy to get out of the state alive. The money we spend to avoid "negative publicity" makes me want to puke. UT's legal arm needs a couple of mean SOB's that don't mind getting down in the legal gutter to win these battles. The Clinton's use the politics of personal destruction quite effectively. No reason the legal eagles on the Hill couldn't have found ways to crucify Jones & Curry to flip the leverage position. Time to quit playing nice with folks who try to damage the University. Until we make an example out of one of them, people like Jones will continue to think they can act with impunity.

LAVol may disagree, but I don’t think fighting Butch on his mitigation clause is an open and shut case. It appears he has made efforts (even if it’s just a little) to mitigate the buyout but has chosen to stay at Bama. Employment is a free market, and you can’t force someone to take a certain job. The school would have to spend more time and resources to fight a battle that isn’t guaranteed. That’s on top of bring it back up publicly and a possibly perception hit in hiring new coaches.

In the grand scheme of things, Pearl’s buyout wasn’t much. If I recall, it was just under $1 million.

The problem has been the terms and language of some our contracts. Hamilton didn’t have a mitigation class for Dooley, and then agreed to a low buyout for Kiffin. The important part of some of this is done on the front end when negotiating these terms.

Price, Simonton and Lewis all picking UT to win a close game. Hubbs picked USC by 3.
Surprising. What is their reasoning? USC beat uga 2 weeks ago and took UF a long ways further than we ever did. We are down to QB3. No doubt the rest of our team is playing better, but I think we are Vegas dogs here for a reason.
