Butch has made it clear that he'll sue if UT doesn't pay him out. UT doesn't want the Title IX stuff dredged up, so he has the leverage. We want to move forward and leave that chapter behind. So we'll pay him out, and afterward, hopefully he'll cut all ties to Knoxville and leave the SEC.
So in my recent stat diving I came to a weird conclusion.
Helton did a better job managing JG than Chaney/Weinke have. Now that's not to say he's a better QB coach or better OC, and the "managing" could also be part of the confidence/mental block that seems now apparent with JG. But most of the issues last year offensively came from the OL, it would have been interesting to see how things went if the OL played as well last year as they have so far this season.
Chaney I'm sure is a "wide open" type of OC/coach, he's likely just not going to limit his offense to suit a QB. Either the QB can perform or he can't, unfortunately it seems JG can't.
Been saying it all year. JG needs a tight box and little to no control. That is what Helton did to him. Then came Chaney giving him the keys and he can't handle it.

Not a total knock on Chaney, as we've gotten some guys open this year. Didn't much last year. But Chaney's calling card was supposed to be forming the offense around his personnel. I do not think he did that in Year 1. We had a deep ball guy good at PA passes, not a west coast or rpo guy. We have big possession WRs, not burners who will catch and run 80 yards.
Fortunately things looked more fluid under Maurer and there's hope HB can run similar stuff. I know HB is billed similar - suited for a PA pass offense. Hopefully he can run this rpo quick game like Maurer has. It's nice.

That's why I said you get SC off balance for a series or 2 and maybe get some points out of it and move on to Shrout, because YES they have a stout defenseI have less confidence that our best WR playing QB for the first time since high school can beat the defense that beat UGA and almost Florida.
That's fair but when I said RPO's I meant more of a pure option scheme where quarterback either hands off or pulls and runs and then when we've lulled them to sleep on the ground dial one up down the field, I mean JJ hasn't been a QB since HS but I'm sure he's accurate enough to hit a wide open man running free, but ultimately I just thought it would be cool and a decent game plan but obviously I know from the reality and preparation standpoint that this was not a possibility, however we have gotten JJ in the Wildcat and he can manage the cadence and snap count so we could run some option plays throughout the game to keep SC off balance
Field position killed us that game. Not only their returns, but us trying to return kickoffs. Even out the starting FPs and man...Don't believe it does. Shanked 1 for 22 yds, punted in the 30's a few times. If it included the returns, we'd legitimately be in the 20's for that game.![]()
A position group folks aren't talking about is our DB's/secondary... they have some good WR's and he isn't afraid to sling it based on the last 2-3 games. We have to keep them in front of us and not give up big plays.. AT and Thompson make me nervous every series...
In before "well they played great against Bama and shut them down".......... not exactly, when Tua was in they were torching us across the middle and only when they went to the backup did things start going our way in the secondary... the Interception by Warrior was a gimme where Tua was overconfident and trying to force it.
I hope all aspects of our D is ready to play 4 hard quarters because we will need everyone to step up and play like they did last week.
