Jack,
I wasnât trying to ruffle any feathers with my assessment of JG and Maurer. I just simply was stating my opinions about this team based on my observations. There were folks on this board and specifically this thread that legitimately expected Pruitt to win 9 or 10 games this season.
They said that I was a bigger NegVol than Catbone. Some even told me to get out of this thread and go back to the FF. But, I was steadfast and I reminded them time and time again that it would be difficult to win more that 6 games with this roster and their lack of experience.
I donât have a problem with folks getting a little upset with my version of reality and the fact that it didnât concur with theirs.
But, I did take issue with folks questioning if I was really a VFL, and that concerns me. Mostly, because I have been a Vol for almost 40 years and thatâs longer than many on this board have been alive, but also because they were trying to influence my opinions about this team.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and we come here to discuss those with other VFLâs, and I respect those that show the same respect such as yourself.![]()
Wow!The last of my Neyland - Bama historical entries.....GBO beat the hell out of them!!
GENERAL ROBERT R. NEYLANDâS GREATEST PLOY
In 1928 a then young Neyland challenged national powerhouse Alabama (winner of the 1925 and 1926 Rose Bowl) to meet his unheralded Vols in Tuscaloosa. In the greatest (and perhaps first) opponent psych âout move ever , Neyland went to the Tide locker room minutes before the game and in full earshot of the Alabama players told coach Wallace Wade that the game would be a rout .He suggested that in order to hold down the score, that the last two quarters be shortened. Wade replied that Alabama did not plan on running up a big score , but agreed to shorten the last half if Alabamaâs lead justified it
( just imagine the instant loss of mental edge by the Alabama players) .
Minutes later, Volunteer halfback Gene McEver returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown. The Tide trailed at halftime, Tennessee never lost the lead and won the game 15-13. [ adapted from THROUGH THE YEARS WITH THE VOLUNTEERS by Tom Siler ]
Hey Gunner, the difference is that Catbone has posted on here for years, and we've gotten used to him. A few years ago, people gave him all kind of crap and insinuated that he was actually a Georgia fan just trolling. We all know now that it's not true, and it's just a different opinion, and underneath his pessimism is a guy who wants the Vols to win just as bad as the rest of us.
When you came on here initially, I thought you were just another FF troll who generally shows up in the start of every f@#$ing season looking to sh@# on whatever excitement some of us have for the college football season. It happens every year. Time is a flat circle.
I'd like to think a lot of folks backed off you when you kept posting, and just seem to want to have some good conversation about football. You seem like a good dude. Keep doing your thing. If people don't like it, they'll put you on ignore.
I didnât want to hijack a prospect thread but @LA Vol mentioned something about bringing Banks back for next season.
Is that a real possibility or just message board fodder?
Being negative is easy. I wouldn't be proud.
The Yankees and their fans are so whiney, it's very difficult to have any sympathy for them.
Can someone tell me what would happen if someone ever posted a VN podcast on here? I missed when someone explained what would happen if someone ever posted one though I know itâs never happened.
sounds like a rumor but if he is still enrolled in classes(the prevailing wisdom is he is) you never know, I could see it happening.

So is it more a Jauan Jennings thing?Sorry, I wasn't trying to start a rumor. Banks is enrolled in classes, remains on scholarship and UT continues to help him academically and support him personally. There is a path back, if both sides decide that's the right resolution. There was an internal breakdown on looping everyone in on the August incident, and the warrant issue wasn't handled the best way, either. A quick decision was made that, in hindsight, could have been handled better for all parties. Suspending Banks indefinitely would have given everyone time to get on the same page and review the entire situation with all the information available. It didn't happen that way, but the university didn't suspend him, so the door isn't closed.
Being positive is easy too, but thatâs not the point. The point is we should be open to all views because reality often lies in the middle. We shouldnât be so quick to call someone a troll or say âgo back to the FFâ when we donât like their opinion.
Long way of saying he's redshirtingSorry, I wasn't trying to start a rumor. Banks is enrolled in classes, remains on scholarship and UT continues to help him academically and support him personally. An effective end around the mediaâs righteous indignation towards this case. Allows him to use the dismissal as the punishment and Banks earning his way on the team as a rehabilitation factor.Yeah, UT isn't going to dismiss Banks for conduct violation, so it'll come down to what Pruitt wants to do. Pruitt has already shown that second chances can work with JJ, George and Thompson. So if he thinks Banks can follow the same track, IDT Fulmer would take exception to that.
