2) you’re insane. Where was I “bitching”? I just said that if JG can play the way he did on Saturday then I think he should start again. We need to finish our the year running the ball and playing good defense. That’s what this team’s strengths are IMO.

Maurer definitely has potential but he’s making costly mistakes. He’s obviously a freshman but Two ints in the red zone is a killer against teams like SC and Mizzou (games we have to win). He also started to play poorly in the UGA game once their defense made adjustments.

I want to win games and I think JG gives us the best chance IF we start playing the style of ball we did Saturday (and I really hope we do).

JG is not the answer...period..that point has been driven home over and over and over for the last two years and the beginning of this one. At least Maurer had us down there close enough to throw end zone pics...And I'm not saying it's ok that he does, but at least it is not an automatic three and out most of the time. Give me the guy that brings hope, energy and moves the freakin ball.

But would JG have even been able to get us down into the redzone that many times in the first half to be able to kick FGs I think BM was a bigger factor than you are giving him credit for. Maurer's 2 long runs were probably the biggest part of the running game in the first half and he connected on some throws that JG typically doesn't make because of his tendency to hesitate.



I didn't think the offense sucked at all last Saturday with Maurer in the game. The only thing that really sucked was on the 2 plays when he made poor decisions in the redzone. But with BM at the helm the offense at least got into the redzone 3 times in the first half, and he made 2-3 critical 3rd down completions for first downs to keep some of those drives alive. There are going to be plenty of growing pains for a true freshman QB to be sure, but so far I think the offense has looked pretty effective overall with BM at QB.

I know of at least one end zone interception from JG this season. And nothin’s worse than that gift wrap to the Gator on our side of the field. Guarantano this season may have been contemplating a move to DB, because he’s been masterful at stopping drives.

you don’t want JG to start again man. JG basically only throws outside the hashes and isn’t mobile at all. I’m happy for him last week and glad he could contribute something positive but him being our QB makes our offense much easier to defend.

food for thought. Does Maurer throw more picks than JG? Yes, i think that's pretty obvious right now. But is he going to turn the ball over as much? That is questionable. Let us not forget how many times JG holds the ball all day and gets strip sacked or takes a 10 yard loss on a sack that is a drive killer. Sure he doesn't throw many picks but he still turns in just as many negative plays if not more. It's not all about the INTs!

We all know he adds a lot to this offense but it’s my fear that at some point bad plays might outweigh the good ones. He has 4 picks on just 48 attempts. That’s way too may and that doesn’t include the number of times Florida got their paws on his passes.



Imo he needs to throw 5 or less picks the rest of the way or Pruitt will bench him.

The offense is stagnant without him. Even though he’s thrown some picks, it’s obvious that with him in the game we can make up for them by scoring more points. I think the staff is resigned to the fact that he gives us the best chance to win the last 5 games, and we will just have to live with the freshmen mistakes. The hope is Maurer gets them out of the way now and is lighting up SC Mizzou Vandy and Kentucky

I agree, and to add to this on Maurer's first pick, Calloway also went right to him to let him know he misread the coverage and he was wide open...

Exactly - good point. I personally feel Maurer will learn from it as he is a true freshman with strong upside. JG is not - the die is cast. If Maurer listens to Callaway the rest of the season he will be far more advanced this year than JG is after 4 years.

Super easy. He knew it the second it happened.

The first was a tricky coverage they sucked him into. He misread it. The second one was under pressure and made a poor decision with the other player easily breaking in front of the ball

The WR either gave zero effort to break it up, or he needs to have his eyes checked because he either misread where that ball was coming down badly, or he just gave little effort..It looks to me like he just totally misread how short it was going to be.

Yeah I’m going to be hard in Maurer for the two picks last wk. first was just a smart DC tricking a new starter with a disguised coverage. He will learn from that. The 2nd Palmer could have helped as you said and BM should have stayed in pocket but this was also when he was concussed so I give a pass for a mental mistake there

Overall the offense just believes it can move the ball more with BM in game. They all play with more energy. More times than not we move the ball with him at QB. It’s rarely a 3 and out while JG too often had 3 and outs. BM is just a better natural leader.

Completely agree. Maurer thinks faster and responds without hesitation. He just needs to process what he is looking at correctly. That comes with experience. He is much more athletic, quicker, and has all the throws. Add in the juice the team feels when he is playing. The players know who they have a chance to win with and respond.

That does not take away from JG subbing in well. We were fortunate our big O-line was wearing them down in the 4th quarter and Chaney used pass plays that JG could execute OK behind good blocking. But using him limits the playbook and this team needs to move beyond that toward a better future.

Eh, I don’t think picks are going to get him benched. He’s proven to be miles better than JG regardless.

Perhaps I should have posed the question without benching or JG being involved

It’s funny, I don’t think Maurer factored into that MSU win much. He had a nice run that JG in no way manufactures. But he also cost us a couple scores that JG probably salvages field goals out of. JG could have won that game with our game plan and the way our defense played.

Maurer is just more bouncy so it looks better to us all. Our offense still kinda sucks with Maurer (at this point). But maybe he’s buoyed the offensive line and defensive side of the ball

He moves the ball...that is why people feel that way about him...mistakes while moving the ball are better than mistakes while going three and out most if the time..JG just brings a hopeless feeling with him. And that was earned over years.

It is hard for me to believe he will be much better than he has been now.

Interceptions are the most overly scrutinized stat in football. There’s no context applied to them. If you take chances you’re going to throw interceptions.

If he goes back to playing like he did last year I might. I think Maurer is starting to get overhyped. He has to cut down on turnovers and Chaney needs to be a little more conservative with him

You really don’t. South Carolina laid the blue print for him last year in the 2nd half. Squat underneath and clog up the middle. He can’t throw over the middle or down the field. Maurers threats with his legs and downfield opens up running lanes and gives Jennings and DWA room to work underneath. I do agree that Chaney gets greedy especially in the Redzone.

We're not going to finish the season the way we need to if the QB doesn't take care of the ball. IDT Pruitt will keep playing a QB who throws multiple INTs a game, especially in the RZ. But I doubt Maurer will continue to do that. I think he'll continue to get better. He brings the intangibles; he just needs more game experience.

And I think the coaches will find ways to keep JG engaged. He'll play some. Shrout is the forgotten man. He might as well watch free phone football back in the tent.

We barely move the ball with JG and got lucky we could run on MSU and now people want JG back at QB? Maurer moved us up and down the field with ease and just happened to make a couple bad decisions in the red zone. One was right after he got hurt. JG got lucky Byrd is really fast and MSU did not defend well or we would have only gotten three points from JG. Being one dimensional and barely throwing the ball will not beat many teams. We need Maurer even if it means a few more INTs.

There shouldn’t be a number on these. You have to look at the context of his interceptions.for instance One against Uga Calloway was knocked down (should’ve been PI) and the defender gets an easy INT. I will gladly take some interceptions if it means we are taking shots and being more of a threat on offense. I don’t want to see anymore of the offense with JG.not taking away from what he did but look at them for what they were.... Thankfully some skill guys made some great plays after elementary level throws to win us the game
