Potential Starting Line up and Rotation 2019-2020

If Pons wants to return to the starting lineup and not be buried in the depth chart, then he has to make huge strides and find some semblance of an offensive game. I love Pons, but he is a complete liability on the offensive end of the court. It's like playing 4v5 on that end. He can barely dribble the basketball sometimes. Hopefully, with the Big 4 gone, Barnes will be able to give some extra attention to him this offseason and he can make a big leap.
He’s a liability on defense. He went from starting to barely playing and that was all due to defense. He literally had no pressure to be an offensive contributor last year. Play smart defense and rebound. He didn’t do either well.

I agree, but surely he can make the strides necessary to overcome that, between last season and the start of the 2020 season.

Not entirely true. He was still fine defensively. Not elite, but a solid defender. He didn't play as much because the man looked lost on the offensive end. Chucking up 3-pointers, driving the lane and losing control of the ball, missing layups, etc. He just had no feel for offense.

Sorry, but you’re wrong. With Bone, Grant, Admiral and Turner he wasn’t asked to do much at all on offense. There were clear defensive issues where Barnes yanked him and then cut his minutes.

No, I'm not. As others have stated on this board, Pons is a solid if not great defender in man defense, his problems lie with help defense which is where he was lacking. I think you underestimate just how ineffective Pons was on the offensive end. He had huge issues with turning the ball over, which you cannot do even if you aren't expected to score points.

Actually, I don’t under estimate it at all. I don’t know think Pons is a good basketball player period.

He was giving a royal ass chewing after letting his man (not help defense) get by him on multiple occasions.

springer
K. Johnson
JJJ
O. Robinson
Plavsic
imo.
That looks like a great lineup. And I am a fan of O. Robinson. I think he could be a great player for us. But I think he will have a hard time keeping Walker out of the starting lineup in 2020. Walker has a really nice game for a high school player. May come down to their defense which I admit I don't really know about for either of them.

Walker would probably start later on, but game one id put Robinson in.

Hard to project. I think many of us would have been penciling Pons in as a starter in his jr year....

I think that it was a mistake putting that promo video of Pons "taking off" on the Neyland Jumbotron last year. That put a lot of attention and unrealistic expectations on a guy with just his freshman year on his résumé.

I think Pons is going to be the sixth or 7 man off the bench. He can jump out of the gym but needs to bring some offense when he comes in.

pons is probably playing the wrong sport. would be draftable as a defensive back on the football team. Just hasn't shown the BB IQ needed to play for Barnes. Maybe it finally comes this season.

Pons is a TE or DE on the football field, depending on his ability to catch a football. He would be an absolute freak as a DE with 40 more lbs in a 4-3, or an OLB in a 3-4. His athleticism is world class for his size, and he obviously values the type of hard work, fitness, and nutrition it takes to maintain that level of athleticism.

Good to see Cuonzo lighting it up.
What a joke. Best thing that ever happened to that POS was coaching at UT.

A good guy by most accounts that his players respect. He also had some guys develop nicely under him. But in general I agree that he is not much of a coach. He is very good at timing his exit from a school before the bottom falls out. He better hurry up with Missouri or he may not get out in time.
