Maurer listed as the starter for Bama

I don't want to see BM hurt and don't want him to play in fear of getting hurt. I do think that he will gain tremendous experience playing against Bama, experience that will pay off later this season and next year.
Bama’s defense isn’t what it was. He’ll be fine. It’s Bama’s offense that will shred us.

You're right, but in the history of the sport and the QB position many that have played the position have struggled as to the best time to slide. My guess is that JG is one tough cookie with his past history of getting destroyed the last 2 years but might slide early whereas BM seemingly has a glass jaw but not afraid to keep sticking his head in there. Some would consider one courageous and some would have question marks about ones iq!
Is tough cookie a tangible stat that helps offset losses due to being not a good QB and leader?

I remember when Dobbs first faced bama. I swear I think it helped him. Maybe it will Maurer also.
Dobbs should have been a starter from day 1. He physically wasn't ready but he was clearly better than our other QBs. I think starting him 6 games in vs that Alabama defense absolutely hurt his development, that game should have been his 5th start and not his 1st. Jones wasted a full year of development by not starting Dobbs day 1 I feel.

You are the known racist just own it.
This is called projection... the only one in this conversation who has shown themselves to be biased by race is you. You've trashed every white QB who competed with a black QB over the past several years. If FLVOL_79 is a racist then he must be color blind. He's pulling for a team with at least 18 black starters out of 22. He's pulling for a school that had one of the first black QB's in the south. He's pulling for a team who gives far more scholarships and plays more black kids than white kids.

So he's either the most confused racist in the world... or someone else is the racist.

Good deal man, I was just trying to end this nowhere conversation on a high note. Didn't mean anything by my comments, I get a bit worked up at times
Me too! I'm a fan of all VFLs, you included!! Sorry for the snide comments, I usually save those for all the NegaVols on here.

If JG had been productive and made plays when it mattered, BM would never have seen the field regardless of the stats you have produced. If JG had been even an average Qb, fans would have not been clamoring for a change. Try to dispute that those facts. He is a bottom tier SEC Qb mainly because he has never been a gamer on a consistent basis. Having two or three decent starts in a career now in it’s third year makes him a subpar QB.
Someone is gonna have a real hard time next year when JG is gone and we have QB's who can throw as many TD's in a season that JG could in his career...

Another one of those ifs!! If that's what you think would have happened I can't believe that it wouldn't have I guess. If you ever have a boat you should name it "woulda, coulda, shoulda". I'm still waiting for you to tell me what QB built like BM is currently being effective as a Freshman at a power5 school, you said there were many.
And you keep trying to make a point that doesn't matter. I actually answered you. There are at least a couple of guys in the SEC playing at about his size ASSUMING he didn't gain any weight from the time 247 listed his weight as 193... and the beginning of his season.

But I actually don't disagree that Maurer is playing before he's fully ready. It would have been far better to put some good weight on him. But JG didn't perform. If he had... Maurer would have likely played in 4 games and taken a RS.

JG played at that size and weight. Ainge was a rail when he first started.

But your attempts at diversion are getting more obvious. You want to trash Maurer and cling to the delusion that somehow JG doesn't have the problems that cost him the job. I wish JG didn't have those problems. UT would be far better off if he didn't. But he does. So the choices are play a guy who hasn't been able to overcome his issues in 4 years... or try playing a freshman through his mistakes as he tries to make plays. With the latter, you might lose. With the former... you will lose.

He's 175 lbs soaking wet, the odds of him playing QB in the SEC at his current size and not getting hurt are slim. Easy to get gunshy if you're not strong enough to handle it physically.

Maurer needs as many reps as he can get against quality defenses. That will help him more than anything against the rest of the schedule.

As far as getting hurt, EVERY game presents the risk of getting hurt for any player out there. IMO, one of the worst things a player or coach, for that matter, can do is play/coach scared.
It's a double-edged sword. I like our chances in the last 5 games better with Mauerer than without.

Yeah, you're probably right. Probably should save the expense of travel and forfeit the game, don't you think?
Nah, we can hope they pull a vol-Esk one and sleep through like we did Gst. But I wouldn’t bet the farm on it,

OK. Time to put up or shut up. Where do you get this inside info from? UT lists him at 193. 247 listed him at 193 as a recruit. Rivals listed him at 199 as a recruit. His hudl profile says 200. I'm not sure where else to look... so where did you find 175?

I just hope he doesn't get hurt if he starts. We need him more with SCAR and the rest of the schedule. We have a realistic chance of winning them.

Serious question for all who want Maurer to sit out this game..
No one has as serious a health issue on this team as does Trey Smith. Would you also advocate for him resting this week and "being ready for South Carolina?

Look at him, hardly any muscle tone at all and he's what 6'3"? I'd have to see him on a scale before believing he's 200 lbs. I'm 6'2 and know exactly what 200 lbs looks like and he's not it, not 200 lbs of muscle. He'll get there eventually but he's way to light muscle wise to handle the rigors of the position. Either that or he has a glass jaw suffering injuries in both his starts. I think it's simply that he's not ready physically and once a player starts getting concussions in today's sports climate they don't last long. He needs more muscle before he starts getting concussed every game.

Please read my post. I SAID IF HE STARTS I HOPE HE DON"T GET HURT. Damn, I never said don't start him.

It's right there by moxie and energizing the team.

You know, literally the only things people say BM does better at of has more of.

The tangible stats all favor JG.

So "coulda, shoulda, woulda"... you are reading your assumptions into it.

I have no earthly idea though if I'm not mistaken one of those weights would have been from the Elite 11.

Again I wish he were more developed. But JG's ineffectiveness forced them to try someone else. Why do you keep avoiding the reason Maurer has to be out there?

They chose Maurer. They didn't feel he was too little. They didn't even tell him not to run. If they told him to slide... it didn't take. Shrout and JG are actually listed at 213. Somehow the coaches didn't think whatever the difference was... was critical.

I don't really care either way but most on here don't understand how in today's concussion climate that once you get 3 or 4 of those teams really back off of you. He took a shot vs Ga, likely concussed as well as ribs, and nearly broke his neck a week later. He's pretty beat up for a kid that's skin and bones. That and he throws it to the other team a bunch and Alabama is pretty good at causing turnovers, we'll have to play mistake free to win and I'm pretty sure we're going down there to win Saturday. :)
