"In a day and age where Tommy leaves his travel baseball team because he's not playing the position he or his parents want him to play."
Idk why he added this. Kind of awkward. Thanks for the example Hubbs....I guess.

So I know it’s hard to give JG credit around here but I think it’s due. Sure he wasn’t asked to do much but he delivered when asked.

1) the check down to 9 was something we hadn’t seen from him. He surveyed the field and felt the pressure. He held on to go ball precisely long enough to let the flat open up and we converted a game changing 3rd down

2) the TD to Byrd was a RPO that he clearly made the correct read on. Sure it wasn’t a tough throw but he made the correct decision.

3) the throw to 80 was beautiful.

4) the only incompletion of the day might have been his best throw. He was under heavy pressure and delivered a ball to JJ that could have and maybe should have been caught. It would have been a tough catch but the ball was put in the only place it could have been with the safety being over the top.

Simply put we don’t win the game yesterday if he doesn’t play flawlessly even if he wasn’t asked to do much.

I didn't see much difference in their running. The difference was in MS knowing we were going to run. There's always going to be extra 0 yards and negative yards plays when the defense knows what you're about to do.

If anything, I give them credit for breaking off several decent yards despite Shoop lining up to stop them.

I was actually surprised at how light Shoop kept the box late in the second half. Chaney was spreading them out, and it was clear MSU had a healthy respect for our receivers.

Part of which the Byrd RPO made sense. Shoop was cognizant of not overplaying the run. I’m glad we did the pass play on 2nd down instead of 3rd

This is the hole in Shoop’s armor as a DC. He overestimates the opposing teams’ receivers and plays his guys too far off the ball it seems. Mullen saw that last year and beat that top-ranked MSU defense to death with slants and screens, completely neutralizing the two first round draft picks MSU had on the d-line. By the second quarter, it was clear that if he had played tight coverage, Franks was gonna throw a bad ball or get sacked if he didn’t have easy outlets. Did Shoop change it up? Nope, and instead it was death from a thousand cuts.

Yesterday was excellent for recruiting. Recruits saw what they were looking to see-- the team pulling together, good chemistry, SRs stepping up, FR playing and developing, good crowd support and the team taking a step forward. Need to get through Bama healthy and be ready for SCAR. We could get a night game, and that would be a boost for recruiting. If that happens, we'll have more guys in and the weekend will become a bigger deal.

I so wanted to write JG off. Then he keeps proving he is a good teammate . I still believe Maurer gives us the best chance going forward. Tip of the hat JG . Sometimes the mvp isn't the best player.

JG is in the position he will do best in. He is not the future, nor is he our starter for the most part, but he is a backup with experience. I think he is embracing that role as the elder statesman, and that will pay great dividends moving forward.

I think the VN game ball should go to the SRs. The ones that are still here have stuck it out through thick and thin-- mostly thin-- and they were a big part of this W. There are less than a dozen of them and I think every scholarship SR that isn't injured contributed yesterday. They set the example, and they were the difference. This feels like a turning point, and if that proves to be true, guys like JJ, Bituli, Warrior, Byrd, Callaway, DWA, Kennedy and Lovingood turned the wheel. I'd throw JG in there, as well. Well done, SRs!

Grats to Gucci, too, for the long-awaited arrival of Little Knox Kiffin Gucci Sosa.

I will say this, JG did a GREAT job reading the entire field on pass plays, and going through his progressions properly yesterday. That’s something we haven’t seen him do earlier in the year. He had a bad tendency to stare down his receivers But yesterday that tendency didn’t show up. Albeit yesterday was a smaller sample Size for JG, but he still did a tremendous job reading the entire field/defense.

I've been off the forum for a while and missed it during the game, who replaced HT? Crouch, JJP?

Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see Maurer not play against Bama. Sit him a week and play JG and Shrout. Get through the weekend healthy.
