Gonna be interesting to see Mehlen when he only has his own talent to rely on. Losing a lot of his inherited players after this year. His 2019 class was a complete disaster. Will be interesting to see how his 2020 class finishes. Probably have to wait till next Aug tho to know for sure.

But in gonna be curious to see what he does down there.

Mullen, as goofy and awkward as he is, is a good coach. That said, there has been a lot of attrition in his first two classes. Theyre gonna feel that in a year or two.

Will they ever be a bottom feeder? Probably never since FSU and Miami both are. But they will fall off a little.

Just got to hope we continue to rise in the meantime. All signs point to yes.

My post game randoms

  • First off, what a game! Let this be the new norm. So often during the past ten years to include earlier this year, we see the team have a strong to borderline dominating three plus quarters, only to not score enough and then finally find a way to steal a loss from the jaws of victory. And when Ty Chandler made that decision to take the return, and the holding call was there.... it felt like the wheels were in motion for another one of those. Instead, we ran it down their throats and iced the game. At home, against an SEC opponent coming off a bye, and playing with their full cast of characters for the first time all season. Damn that felt good.
  • I don't care about HT's suspension. Honestly its a blessing in disguise. Kids gonna hit a freshman wall eventually. Let him get some rest. Hate to sound like a defeatest but we aint beating Bama this year with or without him. Rest up kid.
  • We've been screaming for a youth movement - and for good reason. But yesterday it was the upper classmen that carried us to victory. DT, Byrd, DWA, JG, Jennings (per usual), Nigel Warrior (what???), Butler, etc.
  • Hats off to Tyler Byrd. While it is kind of a black eye in a sense to the program, I'd love for this kid to find his way into the league and become the next underutilized Vol to make it in the NFL. Kid just epitomizes what it means to be a team player, and to be a Tennessee Vol. Hope we keep getting him involved.
  • Which brings up something I saw on twitter... yesterday was the first time all season Tee Martin was on the sideline and not in the box. Led to us getting a lot more receivers in the rotation as opposed to overplaying Jennings and Calloway. As a result we saw Ramel and Jarrod Means both in their throughout the game.
  • Hell of a catch - the separation at the end and concentration by Keyton. He's been kind of the forgotten man in this class based solely off how his lack of playing time - but he finally showed us something yesterday.
  • I've been beyond critical of JG this season, to include during the game yesterday. I still dislike how he is basically a flatline - no emotion, no energy - unless theirs a TD pass. Sometimes the guys need a fiery leader to rally around. But yesterday he did exactly what he was asked to do. He played a mistake free game, and even his one incompletion hit Jennings right in the hand. Coach knew we'd need JG to play more this year and he was right. Props to JG for being a leader and staying around/involved also.
  • I know a lot of us thought Chandler would blow up this year - but he's been pretty mediocre IMO. Doesn't show much electricity or put the fear in defenses.
  • Losing Flowers hurts. He might not have the durability to be relied on. Broken collarbone last year. Hamstring issues in the spring. Broken ankle now.
  • I'm curious how we adapt to losing Flowers - do we roll with Theo/Shamburger? Put Bryce back there and move Burrell/AT to starting corner? Turn to McCoullough or Fields?
  • Kenneth George had a great feel good story when we signed him from JUCO, but he also felt like the ultimate reach and I didn't really expect much from him. But hats off to the kid. He's been playing well this year.
  • Noticed Carvin at RG late in the game. Glad to see him getting in there.
  • Did Savion Williams play? I wonder if we're aiming to redshirt him.

I think I heard Pruitt say they’ll turn to McCullough in Flowers’ absence.

LSU proved they are as good as I thought they were last night. That UF defense is no joke and they just went right through it. UF losing their best two edge rushers certainly hurt however. Bama is not fielding a vintage Bama defense this year, and that game with LSU may be a race to 50.

UF was playing its 7th straight game, and went on the road after a big home win. That’s always a hard scenario. I think if they get back those two edge rushers they may knock off UGA in the Cocktail Party.

If our RBs run like they did vs uga last week, maybe. Not if they run like this week.
I didn't see much difference in their running. The difference was in MS knowing we were going to run. There's always going to be extra 0 yards and negative yards plays when the defense knows what you're about to do.

If anything, I give them credit for breaking off several decent yards despite Shoop lining up to stop them.

Watching our last drive of the game was great. Every play beore we got past midfield our lineman got a push. Guys were double teaming the correct spot. And we're at least 3 yards downfield.

That and all the sacks we got were so encouraging. Haven’t had a game-finishing drive like that from this team in years.

D looked much improved yesterday, with linemen seemingly getting more penetration...
Could not believe how many times they were being blatantly held with no calls...
Flowers out for the season is not good for the second half of the season in terms of depth...
Tim Jordan may not make the best cut decisions at times, but the kid flat runs as hard as he can and gives it everything he has...
Byrd deserves every bit of yesterday, so happy for that kid...
Sorry, but still not okay will all the consecutive run plays when JG was in trying to hang onto a 3pt lead... we were very fortunate for the Byrd TD... the WR setting his block was the total key.
Hopefully, Baron and others were taking notice and we gained some momentum on the recruiting trail.
I don't care about next week this season, play our walk-ons and Shrout, and make sure everyone stays healthy and rested for the remainder of the season... We'll start pushing Bama next season...
We have a chance to turn this thing into a bowl game, but SC and Mizz are going to be huge... hope we have enough left in the tank.

Someone said it a week ago but it’s true.

Football is such a fickle game of swings and momentum. I truly think (in games where we are evenly matched) the first big play juices a team up, sets the tone.

They don’t bobble the opening kickoff or Stevens doesn’t get sacked I don’t know how we play.

I heard some of the pundits talking before the season started about this very thing. It was their take that this year he’d be pretty good but the next 2 years could be bad because of how much they’re losing. Let’s pray it’s actually worse.

As long as he has a great DC..and I mean he has a great one, one of the top three defensive coaches in CFB...he is going to do well there.

But....meh..

If Chaney would have thrown the ball more with JG and JG turned the ball over then you would be on here criticizing Chaney and saying that we should have ran the ball more.

Never listened to hairy Simonton and skinny Price before, but they make a scary point - BM has started two games and he’s missed snaps in both of them because of getting dinged/concussed.

I would make a big delineation between multiple concussions vs injuries. Against Georgia, he took a shot straight to the ribs which was probably painful/took his breath away.

He was likely on concussion protocol against MSU. Multiple concussions would be much more worrisome. Ultimately, he has to learn to get down. There was no need for his concussion and he really could have had a devastating neck injury from it. Another run where he did the spin move—we don’t need that either

Maurer’s first INT was just a horrible read. They ran a hitch corner and Callaway was wide open on the small hitch. Not sure if Maurer read it wrong or just decided initially to go to Jennings on the corner before the play. Hard to criticize Chaney when a throw to Callaway gets you big yards.

2nd INT was bad. He tried to throw a jump ball and give Palmer a chance. But he underthrew it by a few yards. Palmer also did no favors. He didn’t try to break up the play or make a play on the ball. He just watched the guy catch it. If you are Palmer, you do everything to avoid the INT. Even if you get OPI

Love that he is so fearless, but he's not Josh Dobbs who seemed to slip away like a wet noodle. Dude's head looked like a ragdoll hitting the ground in the last two games.
