I don't understand this decision... I'm not defending Guarantano... he's terrible... but Maurer is more likely to die this game than win it... I wanted the reigns to change after Bama for sure... but anybody else remember when we threw PEterman up against Florida?

We're gonna wreck any confidence this kid ever had
The TEAM is done with JG. Have to give them a reason to play.

I'll be surprised if the coaches give Maurer much of a leash. I would expect them to pull him pretty quickly if he can't move the ball or starts turning it over. They're probably hoping we can get the running game going and not have to take shots downfield.
It seems to me to be a move to see what he has mentally. He’s not going to play well. No one will against that defense. But can he keep it together under intense pressure and still make his reads and command the huddle? That’ll be what they want to see.

Just a reminder - Joe Mixon was caught on video breaking a woman’s face and putting her in the hospital and essentially got a redshirt season as punishment for it. And Bob Stoops is treated like royalty by the media.
We cant justify bad actions because they aren't as bad as others actions. Maybe going Juco will humble Banks and he can figure it out somewhere else.

Because losing with JG looks better? I'm not saying you're wrong, but we've seen enough of JG to know he's not the answer. So why not let at least one of the frosh QBs get experience, good or bad, by playing this game? I can't believe the staff has any confidence in JG given his performances this year.

Maybe Banks stays in school and works himself back on the team

I hope that happens

I don’t disagree with letting him go. I just want to put it in context when the national media tries to portray us as an outlaw program or Pruitt as a coach that sweeps things under the rug.

What did Banks actually DO? I'm apparently missing some information. Yes, he ran his mouth and said stupid and inappropriate things, but what did he do? Did he hit someone? Pull a weapon? Did he do anything other than stupidly run his mouth? I've been out of the loop a few days, up in the mountains, so somebody clear this up for me. Did he actually do something? Did he resist arrest? Or is this all about mouthing off in the back of a police car?

Like I said a day or so ago--- I think a lot of this with Maurer starting is to show the recruits at the game and watching, that the staff is ALL IN on a complete rebuild of the program, and the best players will play, even if they are freshmen. Don't underestimate how important that is and how much these recruits at the game will take notice. They all know we are going to get curb stomped, but it is how we play and our mindset... this is a good thing for recruiting and next year.

See, what you don't understand is--- at other schools you can steal firearms, commit assault, outright cheat and commit fraud, along with a myriad of other things and still be able to play.... At UT however, if you are stupid and run your mouth.... YOU GON...

It wasn’t what he did it was who filmed it and saved it

If Pruitt was going to dismiss Banks, he should have done it right after the arrest. Why wait for the media to blow it up? The HC or someone on staff should have talked to the police, gotten the full story and acted decisively, given the prior incident. Two videos and the HC knew about both. Ridiculous to let it play out like this.

Sounds like he was berating the police at that party. I hate it for Banks. Its kids like this you pull for and hope he is successful but seems he couldn't control his behavior.

So it really is over a young man saying stupid things in the back of a cop car for an unpaid ticket? He didn't actually DO anything just made inappropriate statements?

FTR, I don't think he was lying. No offense to people in Memphis, but there are parts of that town where I believe shooting at cops probably is the norm. Not the entire city, but there are some bad parts of Memphis you don't really want to go to.

This reminds me of when Rich Rod was HC at Michigan and he started spiraling downward. The Michigan media started asking the players if Rich Rod had them practicing more than 25 Hr / week which was the NCAA limit. 1 or 2 of his disgruntled players said they were. I can't remember how much longer Rich Rod lasted after that, but it wasn't long.

It’s that and the threats against a woman
