Kids that are 18-20 years old and in college towns do not see the cops as being on their side. Police departments all over in the country prey on kids this age in order to make money off of misdemeanors. A lot of it stems from underage drinking and how much money cops make off of minor in possession tickets, fake ids, etc.

I have worked at a department for 25 years and have always been told if it’s a mother of 3 or someone on hard times give them a warning. Never has money been brought up once. Unless it was for their benefit.

I think its funny that folks think cops make alot of money off petty crap...lol....remember the ferguson report, pushing for arrest and tickets to fund city projects? All elected politicians doing it.....yet we still blame cops for everything.

My statement does not apply for the majority of LEOs. I know from my own experience in SEC college towns that the cops are incentivized to meet quotas on arrests/traffic violations and get rewarded for meeting them. This leads to many officers actively looking for any reason or no reason to pull a kid over with a university parking tag to just see if they can find anything like a cooler of beer to write up a ticket for. The department ultimately receives ticket revenue, lawyers get paid, and the municipality can provide the department with more lavish resources. I simply do not believe you on saying that the police departments aren’t focused or generating revenues. Every single time I drive through rural TN to my hunting land, I absolutely know which little towns are speed traps where you get a $175 ticket for going 3 mph over the speed limit and the officer is driving a brand new Ford Explorer cruiser in a tiny rural town.
