To Protect and to Serve II

Well, scratch that. They only gave her 10 years. Botham Jean is dead forever, and this trained professional gets 10 years.

That's just ****ed.

Unbelievable.

If that guy had walked into her home and shot her dead (while she sat on her couch and ate her ice cream), I would bet the sentence would be far harsher.

That's what I'm saying!

It's so ****ing obnoxious that someone gets a light sentence for taking an innocent life solely based on a badge.

Plus, the fact that she had a badge makes me think she should be trained so that she'd be LESS likely to panic and more in tune with her surroundings.

Hispanic police showing out for the white cops...

.."but dont let it be a black, and a white one,
They'll slam you down to the street tops..
Black police showing out for the white cops"

Wore the letters off of several of those tapes, and my mom threw away at least 2 of them when she found em...kept buying em with money from cutting neighbors grass
Lmao....still bet I can rap 90% of the lyrics on SOC..like 90% of white American dudes my age. Their were guys that went to school with me that were country as a turnip seed
..cowboy boots and hat...that listened to NWA and public enemy back then...then Dre, snoop, outkast, biggie(the illest),2pac, Memphis own 8ball and MJG ( I turned all my friends on to them, being new to Charlotte) , NAS, DMX...not long after that in pretty much quit listening to rap music. There are a couple guys that when I hear them today I can recognize some talent...but for the most part rap is dead. The 90s and early 00s are untouchable IMO...this trap, yelling/or mumbling incoherently ...only talking about drugs/money....cant listen to that. If you're gonna make music...say something worth saying. Just sayin

No way she serves 10 years. I knew yesterday that the sentence would be a joke. People are probably serving more time for a pot conviction.
It’s true, some animals are more equal others.

As some of you may know, I'm not religious but I do love the teachings of Jesus. This may be the most Christlike thing I've ever seen and the kid has me in near tears. His brother was wrongly killed by this cop. She was convicted of murder and this is his message to her.

Huff posted this in the pub. Thought it should be here too.

Hey Ras...you ever listened to the group " Prophets of Rage"

You will recognize these cats...

Rage against the machine mixed with public enemy( Chuck D)

Can't you have forgiveness and punishment simultaneously?
I’ll say this, had Mr. Jean been the one to shoot and kill the intruder, who just so happened to be a cop, forgiveness would’ve been in very short supply. 10 years seems like a terribly light sentence to me. Especially considering she will be treated with kid gloves for however long she’s actually in prison. I’m betting no more than 3 years.

I think murder sentences are served at 100%. But yes if he’d walked in to a cop’s apartment by mistake and shot her he’d be getting the needle.

The article said she'd be eligible for parole in 5. But I'm with DTH... I'll be shocked if she serves a day over 3 years.

And yes if the roles were reversed I'm thinking the judge wouldn't even consider anything less than 30 with no chance of parole.

That would be an interesting thought experiment. The judge in this particular case is a black woman. I wonder if she be more lenient on the black man or if she would throw the book at him.

May be an unpopular opinion, but I thought the sentence was appropriate for her, based on the scant little I know about the case.

100% agree that it’d be a totally different outcome with roles reversed, but I think that’s because the sentence would be too harsh on him.

It seemed like it was probably manslaughter, I can’t imagine there was any element of premeditation or that she went up there to have a confrontation with him. Maybe I’m ignorant of facts that make that the case but I believe that those of us who haven’t been to jail probably tend to sorely overestimate the appropriate length of a prison sentence.

I’ve never had a client sent to prison for marijuana unless it was a probation violation. Even then there’s usually something else.

I’m sure other jurisdictions do it, though.

Jail isn’t what we think it is. It doesn’t fix people. It doesn’t make people better. It doesn’t help society. It’s just vengeance and sometimes that vengeance keeps people locked up, who need to be removed from society.

10 years in jail is a long ass time. Even 3 years in jail is a long time.

I just think, unless the person is unrepentantly violent, jail sentences of more than 10 years are a waste of taxpayer money.
