the key there is "should have".

i doubt a whole lot of folks see 10 wins as being remotely possible any time in the next couple/three years.....where the gap was narrowed 3-4 years ago, it's widened back out, by quite a margin.....we're not close to beating GA, FL or Bama right now so the ceilling is 9 until proven otherwise......which likely means 7 or 8 is most likely.

and that's only after we simply get back to being on par with the 2nd tier.
Yeah, I don’t think anyone expected 10 wins in any of the next three or four years. But how you build matters. You have to show steady improvement and we haven’t done that.

Now, if we ultimately get to that point, you can say none of the middle ground mattered. And I think a lot of people think that way. “If you give him enough time it’ll work no matter what.” I don’t buy that but I understand it.

We should be in a bowl game this year. We just should be. There’s no getting around it. The degree to which the failure to do so should be graded is where people get into some disagreement.

Mullen lost to South Alabama in year 8! Not year 2 after only one recruiting class. But year 8, 2 complete cycles in of his players! He must be an awful coach who will never be successful!
What we have to define is what is an outlier and what is a pattern.

There’s likely too little evidence to make the call right now - it’s trending downward for Pruitt but there’s enough season in front of us for him to break back in a positive direction. Which is why no one sensible has advocated for his termination.

I just don’t see how anyone could sensibly say he’s going to absolutely get the job done either.

"We have a really outstanding, good-looking freshman class. We have seven seniors that are busting their butt, and a lot of other kids on the team, as well."

-Fulmer
I will quote this to answer Bruin’s question, so everyone knows the context of my comment… I think what is meant by Fulmer’s statement is not everyone on that team is bought in, and that there are enough players who are not busting their tails to cause an impact on the whole team. It is probably the big reason that we are seen what we see on the field, and I am betting the starting QB has been a part of that contingent.

Bump. Curious to see how he is received on his snap in Neyland.

Anyone know if Kevin was ever interviewed about his son’s defection?

Ok I interpret it opposite of that.

Imo he wouldn’t call out such players not buying in on vol calls. He went there to be positive minded and optimistic and if he believes many aren’t busting their tales he wouldn’t say it publicly

Not sure why you asked then. Mullen went 5-7 again when Fitzgerald was a freshman and somehow made a bowl.

Mullen’s early years feasted on easy OOC schedules. This year was favorable for us, but playing OU, Oregon, etc. has made our years worse.
I wish we were feasting on easy OOC schedules.

Of course you do… To each their own.
