Nothing like writing an article based off of a heavily edited transcript of Pruitt's comments. That tweet from Wolken would be embarrassing if it were from anyone else. But being from him, its par for the course. It is literally comments taken from the beginning, middle, and end of what Pruitt said. It is completely ripped out of context to intentionally make it look like he is mad about Banks being arrested. He isn't. Again, anyone who listened to the entire conversation knows this isn't the truth. But hey, keep using those clickbait headlines and Kingston takes I guess.

Vols are too easy of a target these days, everyone is getting their shots in while the getting is good. Instead of checking the media on it, the fanbase feeds into it for the most part. Smh

So, the same thing that happens in almost all D1 programs. Ever notice how the top programs over the last 10 years all seem to have everything moving in the same direction, including the local media?
Yes, I just posted that because some have suggested that the local law enforcement goes out of their way to target athletes. I don't think that's the case.

Was just there two weeks ago, I managed to resist the temptation to climb in there somehow...

Unfortunately, there is a pretty sizeable trench separating the lion from his lunch in that video that you can kinda make out. I'm assuming they are pretty certain that the lions can't make that jump because the viewing area is pretty damn close and the outside perimeter fence is not much of a barrier at all. Great zoo for anyone in the area that hasn't been, but definitely get the full experience tickets.

I can't do zoos, too depressing.

It somehow still surprises me how much of our fanbase lives in a bubble. Minorities, especially from the inner city, don’t like or trust cops - and usually for good reason. JB didn’t threaten anyone, he was just upset and tbh listening to Pruitt on the phone call it “silly ****” probably made JB that much more outspoken. Yesterday’s apology is all that was needed. Do we need to turn every molehill into a mountain?

I don't think so either. But no one here can convince me that the local news media doesn't go out of their way to bash the football program every chance it gets.

It's amazing how so many people are taking Pruitt out of context. Listen, if you want to criticize him that's fine. But at least do it about something accurate. Criticize him for not having the team prepared for Georgia state. Don't be dishonest like Wolken, Hooker, and Kinston are being. But, to the people who don't like Pruitt (Kingston) or TN as in Wolken's case, they smell blood in the water.

I don't disagree, unfortunately the same can't be said for the local "journalists"

I intentionally left out the media for a reason. I dropped that rag several years ago for them trying to make news rather than report it. People need to quit supporting it. Unless of course you like propaganda.

I work in the criminal justice system in a large metropolitan area. Warrants are routinely not executed for minor matters. I see it every day. Cops don't get in trouble if they "ignore" that a person has a warrant for a minor matter like driving while suspended matters, etc (here we don't have them for unpaid tickets). There is literally zero blowback on the cop if he/she doesn't arrest the person and it often creates more work for them, hence you see a lot of "blind eye turning". Furthermore, the jails are often full, so arresting someone on a warrant sometimes means they'll literally be turned away at the jail once they get there. I assume you're not talking out of your @$$ here and you're simply reporting what you see in your local community, but I can guarantee you it doesn't work that way everywhere. I can't speak to Knoxville, but I'd venture a guess that a lot of warrants get "missed" from time to time.

Of course, if it's a felony matter, it's guaranteed to end in an arrest. As crimes get less serious, so does the strict adherence to the "obligation". But at it's essence a warrant is a court order, so of course it's by definition obligatory.

That must be your jurisdiction. Each one can be different. I’m a criminal defense attorney...in Memphis. They don’t let warrants go.

If you heard the audio, the officer said he had discretion if he was simply citing for driving on a suspended license. An officer can write a misdemeanor citation if that is the case. But this was a bench warrant issued by a judge. It’s their job to execute a warrant and bring the person in. Like I said, it’s standard operating procedure.

😂 kid could of actually of killed someone and was suspended for 1 game.

Banks had a suspended license and made some extremely ill advised comments and he gets drug through the media like no other.

Sounds about right.
The thing is. Their media let it die.

Oddly enough someone in my family got off with a warning for a similar situation with an outstanding warrant.

driving on a suspended license, driving with no insurance, driving on expired tags. He had gotten a speeding ticket in the past or something and they suspended his license. He was still driving around in the vehicle though, cause dumb. Got pulled over for no seat-belt, and when the cop ran everything he was pissed but STILL told him the car needed to be towed and he better not see it on the road again or he'd arrest him and impound the vehicle.

If he was simply driving on a suspended license, that’s different. The officer has discretion. With Banks, he missed a court date on a previous citation. A judge issued a bench warrant for not appearing. Officer had to bring him in.

I heard Jerry Glanville on the radio discussing this topic one day not long ago.
He said the most successful college football programs have communities that are “all in”.

This means faculty that might give out a grade or two.
It means local cops who sometimes turn the other way or call a coach before an arrest.
Local media that are fans of the program and dont write negative stories.

He said that this requires a “gentlemen’s agreement” led by a Governor, Mayor, etc. that have convinced all of these groups just how important to the health of the local economy that the home team is. The more wins, the more the schools applications rise, hotels and restaurants filled, souvenirs sold, gas sold, everything sold.

Is this kind of thing right? Ethical? Nope. It’s not.
But, as Glanville said, how much do these college towns want to have a hometown winner and how much money do they want to make.
There is only one name that has enough clout to make all this happen for better or for worse and currently it’s spitefully happening for the worse. Haslam’s imo

They could have for sure. I don't think they even charged him with anything. I don't think they charged him with driving on a suspended license. At the very end of the video you can hear the two officers discuss it.

Pretty sure Banks had help to rectify his license from the previous incident. But because he missed court, the warrant was out there. So, he had a valid license but still had the warrant.

Lol. You are something else. Bench (arrest) warrants are issued when you miss court. Police officers execute warrants. It’s their job. That’s all that needs to be said.
How dense are you? My point is that that’s a waste of time for them and it SHOULD be handed to a social worker when it’s something that minor

It says at the end that they could have cited him for driving while suspended but they cut him a break. I don't think he had a valid license.
