An 8-10 win coach gives you a 75% winning percentage. Anyone should want that from a coach. Bama has ruined what people think a successful program is. Fulmer had a 75% winning percentage and I sure as hell would love those times back.
I can see how winning 10 games then fighting for bowl eligibility the next season could get frustrating over the course of a decade.

Firing Fulmer was without a question the biggest mistake of Hamilton's tenure as AD.

2007 Fulmer is given an extension.

2008 ya fire him? Lost at UCLA by 3 in OT, at Auburn by 2, at Georgia by 12, at USC by 21, and then Wyoming by 6 (this was the one that did him in)

Had also lost Cutcliffe, Matt Luke, Kurt Roper & Trooper Taylor before the start of 2008. So it wasn't just that Fulmer had a new OC coach, he had an entirely new offensive staff. An absolutely awful season offensively, 17.3 PPG with a defense that was only giving up 16.8 a game.
Wyoming was after he was fired otherwise, I agree. Fulmer would have straightened the ship. I feel like we would be Clemson as they are now.

the players made a statement vs Wyoming. None of them wanted to play. I remember hearing Eric Berry say it felt like he got his rib removed when fulmer told the team he was being fired.
say what you want about uncle Phil but his guys would run through an absolute wall for him.

JJ Peterson's named mentioned by Pruitt as being in the 2 deep now at inside linebacker.

Maybe the kid will continue to improve.

Of course, it helps when 2 guys in front of you leave the team.

Man our LB depth is so shot. Reid I get, but wish Ignont had stuck it out. Need every dang able bodied individual there is.

You can make an argument that Fulmer shouldn't have been fired if you lean on what has happened since. You can't based off anything he was doing at the time.

There wasn't any evidence to support the idea he was fixing it, much less being what Clemson has been the last 6 or so years. His best days were in the rear view.

Disagree. As I pointed out he had 4 new offensive personnel on staff for 2008. At the end of that season you would have likely seen changes made to correct the issue. 2007 we were in the SEC Title game. Had he not been fired we likely go 6-6 and make a bowl (probably win that too), so 2009 wouldn't have been as rough as it ended up being.

He can start, doesn't mean he's the one that plays the most snaps.

People put too much emphasis on "starting."
I'd imagine he'll be given the opportunity to take the most snaps. But he'll have to earn them. And any backups will have to really step up to earn more drives.

I still think they have far more confidence in JG than the others, but they're also sick and tired of him not taking his practice self to the games this year.

he hired a bad OC. He had one of the best defenses in the country his last year
With many of the same returning the next year including Eric Berry and dan Williams.
He also would’ve had tahj boyd playing QB. I think we would’ve been fine.

I don't think firing Fulmer was a bad decision. I don't think he would have turned the ship. Meyer and Saban were owning him. The program really got a shot in the arm when we hired Kiffin.

Not hiring Cutcliffe over Dooley was about as bad of a decision a person could make. That's not hindsight, most of us said that at the time.

Not Clemson 2015-2019 level, but we would have been right back to 8 win minimum seasons.

GDit I’m really talking myself into Papaw Phil riding again.
