this. i was dead set against it. but if it had come to pass, well, you're in the wonderful world of "you don't have a choice", so he'd get the support.

but not gonna lie, at the first sign of trouble, i'd of gone all hank and kv on him......................... :)
When it was looking bleak early on for Butch, I put Schiano’s name up. Knew of his reported shortcomings and thought the time with Urban had smoothed those out and the network recruiting ties would have been a boon. Immediately bailed when the Sandusky allegation leaked out. Anybody saying that there was no truth to them and that includes ESPN, is deluding themselves over the big picture. The HINT of it would have been a continual cloud. ESPN would have set up shop on campus and rival coaches would have constant material. In retrospect, all of the “legal hot shots” on here and other boards guaranteeing that we’d have to fork out $20 mil to him are left to the glaring silence from his camp. Says to me that the truth was at best somewhere in the middle. A civil trial would not have afforded him the parachute of pleading the 5th. Something buried in the facts is worth more than $20 million...and that would have went splat right in our faces if the hire had gone through.

What do you think Tennessee needs to do offensively and defensively in order to have a chance to upset Georgia?

that, and i just didn't think he was a very good head coach, a la what every player that played for him in Tampa seemed to say............................

There’s a growing list of those who failed in the NFL but did well on college. I saw his time with Urban as a rehab of sorts.

Crazy some stat sheet had him in the bottom 3 producer's on defense. I did not see it.
well, he's making some mistakes, but not unlike any freshman might make that's being asked to do what he is.....he bites on things he shouldn't....and he's over run some stuff and missed some tackles.

i've also see other things...that remind of how Luke Kuechly plays the game....you can tell he's got a very high football iq, and he's pretty technically sound physically.

i don't really care who ranks him where right now...i'll be absolutely shocked if he's not a household name by the time he leaves UT early for the draft. :)

i didn't. i saw it as "yeah, that's about right, DC on a really good team that insulated by an even bigger prick than he is".....

but that's just me.
:)

Bronco Mendenhall was highly successful at BYU for a decade. I've seen Michigan fans on twitter saying they wouldn't be fans anymore if they hired him. I think people are selling him very short.
"Things did not go well for the Cavaliers in his first season at UVA however, as the team finished 2–10"

...

"Mendenhall highlighted roster management as an area where the previous staff fell short. “What I call succession planning, just the methodical, simple filling of a roster to rebuild and develop, has not been done very well,” Mendenhall said, “and I love doing that part... [but] it’s hard to develop four years of players unless you have four years of players"

...

"Virginia was picked last in the ACC Coastal by all seven football experts at CBS Sports heading into the 2017 season.[16] Despite the poor projections, the Cavaliers would surprise many by starting the season 5–1"

Mad jelly

Lol he is not our best player 😂

I won't argue the best player point, but I'll tell you what he is...he's an indictment on what his upperclassmen peers are not, he's a prime example of what a football player is supposed to look and play like, he's a throwback to names like Simon, Burnett, Mayo, Thompson, Little and Wilson. He's exactly the type of player we hope to have 85 of if this regime is going to bring Tennessee back to prominence. He's a guy who we actually beat our rivals to get.

This time next year, it'll be this guy and this class, coupled with the 2020 class that will be leading this team. So, for me at least, he's an example of hope for the future.

Gooden and Solomon back next year, all the guys that are playing right now are back, and you're going to add some newcomers.

the Dl can get better, a lot better, by next year. they would benefit greatly from a bowl practice to go along with next spring.

and i think if you can hit on a couple of these guys in state, a couple of those guys are going to find their way in to the rotation really early...already said it, but i think Baron can come in and start on day 1.

the future can start to look pretty good for the DL if we can get some of the guys out there to stick, or commit and sign....we'll have production returning up front. the LB's will all be back except Bituli and Taylor....but i'm not overly concerned about ILB....

pass rushers....NEED BADLY.
I am much more worried about ILB. I think we will be fine at DL (see my previous post) and OLB (Croutch and Harrison) although we do need a couple more OLB/DE pass rushers in the 2020 class for depth.

If Butili or Henry T get and ankle sprain or a paper cut this year .. there is a huge drop off to play the backups at ILB. Also, we do not have any ILB currently committed for the 2020 class. I have said it before, but I think if Tank McCulough puts on 10 pounds .. he will end up playing ILB and that may be a very good thing. We badly need ILB's that can cover.

Pretty sure Beasley has that role filled. Tank needs to stay at safety and take Warriors job.

Random, but damn I wish we would go after DeShawn Lynch hard af. Kid is a beast. Obviously no indication of what he will do in college or even the rest of his HS season but they have him projected as a first rounder on 247, compared him to Michael Bennett.

I was commenting more on next year.

Yeah this year we're thin at ILB.
