From @Fingers' Wednesday Practice Thread:

Jauan Jennings did spend a period throwing passes to fellow receivers against walk-on corners and ex-DBs like Deangelo Gibbs and Tyler Byrd. Gibbs picked off Jennings’ first pass, but the senior wideout did have big completions to Cedric Tillman, Jerrod Means and Ramel Keyton.

Here is best guess at this play for both Us and them. (With pics)

Florida: this is 100% Tampa 2 coverage. The only thing odd about it is on the opposite side of the interception, the safety doesn’t drop back towards the numbers like hes supposed to. He is more towards the middle so this must have been in response to a tendency they picked up. Other than that everything is basic Tampa 2 bring 4, drop 7. Everybody squats at the 1st down marker and has their eyes on the QB, except the Mike (30) is protecting against a Inside vertical. He can either reroute it or just drop deep.

Us: props to Chaney bc he knows they are in cover 2. This is called “Flat 7” with an inside seam. This play beats tamp 2 every day of the week. Chandler is supposed to run a flat, baiting the corner to come up so Calloway can run HARD corner or comeback. Emphasis on hard Bc he needs to make the SS think he’s running a go so he will get back on his heals.

What went wrong?

Chandler runs a delayed piss poor flat route where he doesn’t get upfield Quick or high enough to cause the corner on Calloway to come up to the flat. I think it’s palmer that gets rerouted by the mike trying to run an inside vert .......

I have no idea wtf JG was doing bc he threw to a spot where no one was even supposed to be. Corner never takes his eyes off him and just reads him like a book.

Good content Hank. Thanks

On defense Georgia is 5th in the country in rushing defense and are giving up an average of 57 ypg. They are 47th in passing yards allowed per game and are giving up 205 ypg.

On offense they are 58th in the country in passing offense are passing for 255 ypg. They are 19th in rushing offense are averaging 253 ypg.

They are 18th in scoring offense and are scoring 42 ppg. They are 4th in the country in points allowed per game at 10 ppg.

So it would seem like that our best chance to score points against Georgia is to throw the football.

Bingo! Great point. I couldn't have said it better myself. Good coaches who start out at a new place embrace players who are already on the team and then add their own guys.
Obviously this is the best case scenario but Pruitt has never been a head coach. And it doesn’t matter that his first HC job is here at this point. He knows the game, the staff is solid, and he can recruit.

Maybe we are also underestimating how difficult butches players are. They did allow the worst season in history without a fight, crumpled at the end of last year when fighting for a bowl because they probably don’t care about extra practice. We can play that game both ways.

Mullen has unquestionably done more for Florida that Pruitt for Tennessee, all things considered. Tennessee May have been in a worse place but Franks was bad, they have had a mess of transfers, hardly any DBs in the roster and an awful OL and they are winning. I still wouldn’t say Florida has overachieved, But it’s early.

At this point, I would take Mullen over Pruitt but JP has time to change that narrative
I'm critical and the coaching deserves criticism but I'm going to ride with you on this one but for 1000th time say the QB situation is killing the team but Pruitt is tooooo hard headed to listen and cost him his job...Let JG know he is going to be the backup from here on out and give Shrout and BM the snaps with the 1's

Sherrer has done an excellent job as Special Teams coordinator.
Tennessee is currently is
1st in Kickoff return defense
40th in punt return defense
29th in kickoff returns
14th in punt returns

Agreed but one thing that’s been bad is punting. Our punter has really struggled at Florida

Is this how it felt to be a Vanderbilt fan in the lean years? Always having a gut sense that the team had it in them to up and beat the next top ten opponent? Just need a new wrinkle, a new spirit, new play makers and leaders to emerge. Am waiting for the rise to the top to show some signs of life.

I don't think there are any living Vandy fans who remember anything other than the lean years.
