the only thing Chaney hasn't had is a qb. i haven't had too many issues with the play calling.

the qb hasn't been good and we've had drive klling penalties from OL...both unsportsmanlike/unnecessary roughness calls.....

anyway. i don't put any of this on chaney at this point. we haven't really benn in a situation in a game where playcalling would make a difference, situationally speaking.

I mean the coaches had our guys in position to make plays on certain things and our guys just didn’t execute.

I didn't always praise Chaney before he came back, but I think he's done a decent job. The only thing that I want to see is Ty and Gray in the game at the same time and trying to get the ball to Ty without a swing pass.

He has schemed open DWA a couple of times. Our OL play is much better, and he can call straight runs that work. I just think the QB is holding him back.
I get so nervous every time we throw a swingpass. They always seem to be backwards and at the running backs feet. Just a turnover waiting to happen.

yeah...it was obvious Mullen wanted the UF job.

i was on the fence with Mullen at the time, but i wouldn't have been mad at hiring him. i would have understood it.

what i didn't understand is if he was first on the list, how on Earth did you not get your best foot forward? i'm not sure he would have taken our job either way, but i don't get the feeling we put our best foot forward, either in prioritizing him, financially from the standpoint of making an offer he can't refuse or just not staying in contact long before and after CBJ was fired.

my whole thing back then was if you have a #1, and that's' the ONE you wanted the most.....you simply don't take no for an answer.

and if nothing else, it most certainly feels like we did take no, or we were way late to the party.

anyway, the window we had to hire him was before UCLA hired Kelly. that much i feel confident in.

it doesn't matter now, not sure what purpose it serves to go back on it now........

It was a cluster on a grand scale. Currie was lost on how to plan a coaching search.

Ahhh... I remember just like it was yesterday when we used to think going 6-6 was the end of the world. Nowadays we just hope we win an FBS game or two. Good times...

Also never had a losing season at Michigan State.
My point was really about ceilings. No one here would be happy with 6-6 in year 4 and we'd probably let Pruitt go if that's where we were. But finding out one's ceiling sure won't happen in year 2 or 3, maybe even 4 or 5 for a 1st time HC, and that was always the hope with Pruitt - having a high ceiling.

Another overused excuse. Every school has its quirks and power struggles.

Maybe. But I think there is something to ours.

It may be somewhat rectified right now, but the Currie hire was out of left field after Blackburn and Fulmer being talked up. That screams of a booster making a back door deal that others didn't see coming. There is no doubt that UT's administration has been a severe problem, and boosters usually have a hand in that, especially when a high level booster family is also the governor of your state.

we can't win a game and you are worrying about the top teams. Smh, you guys have to start getting realistic.
Where did I say I was worried about the top teams? I was responding to a person who was talking about recruiting rankings and how they correlate. Never did I say we should be competing with top programs right now. Y’all are on a whole other level today lol.

I disagree. Look at the top teams in college football. Damn near all of them are finishing with top 15 classes. There is a direct correlation. I think we have talent, our issue is coaching and development of those players.
we don't have the size yet homie. Give him time it will happen. Gotta have size across the board to play in the SEC, geez thanks for nothing Butch.

I have 4 Tix for sale to the UGA game at face value for sale. Wanted to post them here before I put them widely available.

Well let's just stop saying it because you think there all over used...… I'll get right on that....

My post was not attacking you. Swain has a different person to blame everyday it seems. But, heaven forbid someone shares their opinion on a public message board.

well, at least he got a good vacation out of it....heard the Bahamas was nice.

anyway....

i think doing another search this soon after all that just wouldn't net the resuluts anyone wants. none of the previous searches have, and as dysfunctional as things were with those, we set the bar on dysfunction with the last one. and that perception hasn't gone away.

what you're seeing right now with a lot of folks are people that were out on pruitt from day one and they're more than ready to jump on the 'fahr pruitt' waggon.

and then there's the casual fan that sees the record and draws a conclusion.

i think more people are still in a bit of a state of shock at just how bad this season has gone. NO ONE saw this coming. whether you like the coach or not, nobody saw this. so there's very little explanation for it, at least a simple one.

i think you can easily point to the GSU game as being coaching malpractice.

you can look at the BYU game as execution issues that a)prevented that game from being a blow out for us and then b) giving it away late.

FL.........man....just a low point. there were obvious excecution issues and plenty of mistakes to go around.....but from a game management standpoint, i don't recall there being too many huge issues, save the delay of game coming out of the 1st qtr, in to the 2nd, but even still, where's the experienced QB in that scenario?

ugh. it's just been a lot of bad. and you can place blame all over.

i think it's short sighted and lazy to just say "we need a good coach, we should go get one of those" and it's also useless to just bash the players and hope all the older guys transfer.

as much as i hate to say it, i honestly think patience and time is what's needed. i think it's clear there's no easy way out of this, and there's no quick fix. everybody has to get better at what htey do, and we need to get more players in here.

and that's going to be harder to do now......

and add to that, i can't tell you that 2 or 3 more years of pruitt and co gets anywhere near where we want to be. but i do think that if we do go that route, we'll have a little more stable of a roster, a much better idea of what we have to work with, and if we do need to make a change in a couple years, maybe the roster will be in shape enough that the next guy can come in and have something work with.

that or Pruitt and co do get better and become what we need them to be.

but makign the change now seems like a devestating thing to do.

The toughest thing about this season is that most losing seasons we've had have either (a) not turned irreparable until Week 8 or 9 or (b) we knew coming into the season we were gonna suck (Butch year 1 & Pruitt year 1). This season, all the fans had higher expectations (still reasonable, with most guessing 6 to 7 wins) on top of the fact that we lost two of our most winnable games right at the beginning. Most of us have never stared down the barrel of a wasted season 4 games in. That's what's making it so unbearable.

I'm just trying to monitor three things now: 1. player improvement, 2. coaching decisions, and 3. recruiting. I want to see our young guys get better. I want to see our coaching staff make smart decisions that allow for the players to improve as much as possible. Finally, I want to see that this "best staff in the country" can still bring in high level players with such a stain for a season all over us. That'll show if they can really rebuild this program. If you can bring in a top 15 class with a 3 or 4 win record, you can recruit.

I made myself listen to Pruitt’s PC today and don’t believe Pruitt could’ve handled it any better. Anyone calling him a dumb a$$ needs to go listen to that interview. He was very detailed in his plans and the approach they take on quality control daily/weekly. He started talking defense and went way in depth on the types of analysis they use to determine what they are/aren’t doing well and how to improve it. He’s aware the qb situation sucks and is giving them all equal reps this week in practice. When you listen to him talk it appears he’s got this thing running in the right direction. It’s just impossible to see it as a fan because we only see what is on the field during games, and that has been atrocious at times. To hear him talk about it he truly believes we aren’t far from seeing success. I for one hope he’s right, and we start to see some fruits from the labor this team is putting in. This has been a long hard crappy road for everyone involved in Tennessee Football.
