It was a cluster on a grand scale. Currie was lost on how to plan a coaching search.
well, at least he got a good vacation out of it....heard the Bahamas was nice.
anyway....
i think doing another search this soon after all that just wouldn't net the resuluts anyone wants. none of the previous searches have, and as dysfunctional as things were with those, we set the bar on dysfunction with the last one. and that perception hasn't gone away.
what you're seeing right now with a lot of folks are people that were out on pruitt from day one and they're more than ready to jump on the 'fahr pruitt' waggon.
and then there's the casual fan that sees the record and draws a conclusion.
i think more people are still in a bit of a state of shock at just how bad this season has gone. NO ONE saw this coming. whether you like the coach or not, nobody saw this. so there's very little explanation for it, at least a simple one.
i think you can easily point to the GSU game as being coaching malpractice.
you can look at the BYU game as execution issues that a)prevented that game from being a blow out for us and then b) giving it away late.
FL.........man....just a low point. there were obvious excecution issues and plenty of mistakes to go around.....but from a game management standpoint, i don't recall there being too many huge issues, save the delay of game coming out of the 1st qtr, in to the 2nd, but even still, where's the experienced QB in that scenario?
ugh. it's just been a lot of bad. and you can place blame all over.
i think it's short sighted and lazy to just say "we need a good coach, we should go get one of those" and it's also useless to just bash the players and hope all the older guys transfer.
as much as i hate to say it, i honestly think patience and time is what's needed. i think it's clear there's no easy way out of this, and there's no quick fix. everybody has to get better at what htey do, and we need to get more players in here.
and that's going to be harder to do now......
and add to that, i can't tell you that 2 or 3 more years of pruitt and co gets anywhere near where we want to be. but i do think that if we do go that route, we'll have a little more stable of a roster, a much better idea of what we have to work with, and if we do need to make a change in a couple years, maybe the roster will be in shape enough that the next guy can come in and have something work with.
that or Pruitt and co do get better and become what we need them to be.
but makign the change now seems like a devestating thing to do.
