People lower their expectations weekly and it drives me nuts.

Preseason: “I think 7 wins is the floor. Look at that schedule!”
After Ga State: “well they’ve gotta beat BYU”
After BYU: “gonna need to see a ton vs UTC and Florida”
After Florida: “write a blank check for four years. We don’t have a pulse.”

In one month - four weeks! - this place went from “6 or 7 win floor with an outside chance at 8 or 9 wins” to “he needs to be able to survive 2-10 and give him 4 years to get this right!” It’s insane.
These are uncharted waters for this program. This whole ****ing situation is insane.

Ehh I don't love this post.

Taylor, Thompson, Gooden are damn good players/contributors/difference makers. Flowers, Jahmir, Emerson, DWA and Garland have given them major snaps. Carvin, Mincey, Tillman, Banks and now George have all found the field and at least have some potential moving forward. That's 13 solid to rotational players from a class, that's not a fault I can put on Pruitt.

I agree which is why i made a note in gooden and even Allen. But i also led off by saying that alontae, Bryce, and flowers have regressed. Which i think we can all agree none are playing as good as last year.

I thought our Secondary would be set for the next 3 years. They have played bad.

Losing Kyle and shy hurts them obviously but they shouldn’t be playing this bad.

How is that losing? It’s a recent example that it can be done even under worse circumstances instead of just taking the lazy route like we always around here with every head coach and blame the previous staff.
Bill Clark had his program eliminated and all of his good players either transferred or graduated. Two years idle and he started right back up at 8 wins.

Good coaches get results.

Also...to be clear...I am not really a Pruiit guy at this point..but..firing him is a bad idea till he can at least get us back to .500 ball. I think he can recruit and coach that well at least.

He has horrid QBs, a bad, or at least young OL that doesn't allow for a ground and pound game, and a young crap defense, or at least right now it is, that doesn't allow for a ground and pound game either.

Just a decent QB could get us 5 wins at least, but JG and his backups all suck, so there is no help coming from them...at all.

There is no answer right at this point.

You’re asking me to get used to 2-10 seasons because you want to keep the coach who just (theoretically) went through one.

You know that is not what I'm saying, and you hated Pruitt from the beginning, so nothing you say holds water. Firing him at this point is a bad idea unless you got a really great coach lined up...so who ya got?..Answer...NOBODY NOBODY NOBODY that would take on this rebuild.

In case you did not get my point..

NOFREAKINBODY!

I agree...there are just no immediate superstars there.

Are you with Raleigh Fire Department or Durham FD? I worked at Apex FD for a few years and did a few controlled burns with Durham FD while I was in a fire academy. Was friends with quite a few guys from both Raleigh and Durham FD.
Durham fire department since 2001, live in holly springs my neighbor is Silvers brother you may know him!

This cycle of hire a coach and divide the locker room because older guys don’t fit into what new coach wants to do isn’t working. Hasn’t been for 10+ years.
Butch was here for 5 years and all of his players hated him equally.... Soooo let's not act like keeping a lame duck coach for an extended period of time is a much better option...

You will never get Kingston to see this..because...Bill Clark..

I am getting sick of pointing to false equivalencies...it is insane.

Eh, it doesn’t necessarily have to work that way.

Kiffin had near unanimous buy in from Fulmer’s guys. Butch got buy in pretty immediately from most of the Dooley guys. Good coaches bridge the gap faster than bad coaches.

A decent QB would reveal our oline is actually pretty decent. 1st game I believe JG wasn't sacked until the 4th quarter. BYU no sacks and ran for over 200. UTC was UTC. Florida sold out on the run and dared the QB to beat them. Oline has made strides imo.

Swain is saying that the major issue with TN football is...……...

Still the boosters....

Unpopular opinion...short of pulling donations to avoid the Schiano hire I don't know how much fault you can put on 'em. Pruitt is in the top 30 highest paid coaches in the country, as a first time HC. The staff are all in the top paid for their spot, friend I think is top 5 highest paid. Chaney might now be the highest paid OC in the country or damn close.

I mean the boosters need to do what exactly? Cause why open a checkbook more when we've had poor coaching searches and lack results on the field.

So...WHO DO YOU GOT?..

NOBODY that will do any better with this roster right now...NOBODY.

Same here. Don't have it in me to defend Pruit but nothing is changing until the QB situation does. Forget Pruitt, Chaney is proof of that.

He lead the offense when we had people calling Kiffin a genius, and had Dooley's pathetic arse a DC hire away from a huge extension.
Like him or not when the game is on the line, almost everyone will admit he'll get some points on the board.. if you give him anything to work with, but it's obvious, he doesn't have that.

There's the problem IMO.

Firing at this point will make a lot of people feel better. It will be considered success. Theres another major step we havent made since Majors in the late 70's (and that wasnt immediate) that has to be taken.

Does anyone have a recent example where a coach took over a program, had 2 historically bad seasons with historically bad losses, but eventually turned it around and became a championship level coach?

That's not a rhetorical question, I'm genuinely curious if there is precedent for giving a coach 4 or 5 years even if the first 2 or 3 are horrendous.

Also, isn't it crazy how similar arky and Tennessee have been these last 7 years or so? They're going through the exact same thing we are right now.

I agree Chaney is a perfect example. He is a good OC period.
