Pruitt's (Bama Style) 3-4 Defense and a Pro style run first Offense needs big and fast players to win in the SEC. He is in a catch 22 situation at UT where it will be hard to recruit elite players to match his schemes until he is winning .. but he can't win without the elite players. Similar to the situation we had with Dooley/Sunseri trying to run a 3-4 defense with smaller not so fast defensive players. It can be embarrassing. If Pruitt can find a way to sign near top 10 classes in 2020 and 2021 then he could succeed at UT.
Otherwise, UT will need a coach with schemes that can win in the SEC with mostly 3 star talent to get it started in the right direction... so that elite recruits will want to come to UT again. That coach will be hard to find.
This right here is the reality. Give Pruitt his 3-4 years recruiting and a decent QB and then let’s see what happens. No coach will win here with 2-3 star talent.
Of course this is true. However he’s not the first or last to coach to have a loss like that and move on to have success. Or he’s one of the many who get fired for having a terrible year. Still a lot of football to be played... but off to a ridiculous start, that’s true.Being 1-3 with a loss to a team that’s only had a football program for 10 years is ridiculous.
What have you seen to make you think we win more than 3 games?Of course this is true. However he’s not the first or last to coach to have a loss like that and move on to have success. Or he’s one of the many who get fired for having a terrible year. Still a lot of football to be played... but off to a ridiculous start, that’s true.
Agreed. I think we should give him until the end of the season to judge him. If he pulls off 5-6 wins, then we can still have hope for the future. If we win two games, then we all know where this road is heading...Pruitt pulling the auburn game and Kentucky game last year, mixed with a great recruiting class after the end of the year stumble with sc Mizzou Vandy gave us a lot of optimism despite missing the bowl.
Our previous coaches could overcome the roster shortfalls just enough to mask their obvious coaching blunders to hang around, and by that I mean beat the cupcakes and have a few close SEC games.
Pruitt, I’m guessing like all of us, didn’t foresee JG blowing 2 games we should have easily won. It’s not all JG, Georgia state was everyone top to bottom. But if we are 3-1 and could blame Florida on JG I don’t think fans are as mad as we are.
I’m so dang conflicted on what we should do. I just think we are going to be better off swallowing our pride and ride this out. Give him 2 more years and see how we are progressing. Don’t get me wrong, I have seen things that made me say he’s not the guy but maybe he will learn from his mistakes and we can eventually turn this crap around. Maybe he can grow into the guy.
Think I have reached acceptance stage of grief
If we only win 2 games and don't fire Pruitt then Fulmer should be fired immediately and have the next AD fire him. I'm all for giving a coach time but even Dooley or Butch wouldn't lose 10 games with this roster. 2 wins at Tennessee is coaching malpractice of the highest degree, period.Agreed. I think we should give him until the end of the season to judge him. If he pulls off 5-6 wins, then we can still have hope for the future. If we win two games, then we all know where this road is heading...
