Well.......

Duh.

No it definitely didn’t start with Butch. Others have been saying Houston Nutt started it. I remember Saban bringing in a lot early on too. My recollection may be off, but for a time it seemed like there were always 5-7 teams over 25, and 1-2 with 30+. It was a pretty common practice hence the rule change.
I read a national article citing Butch as the one exploiting specifically blueshirting.

The Nutt thing was years before and there were rule changes back then too. They were exploiting something different that was outlawed years before Butch -

"In May 2009, the SEC passed a rule restricting its football teams to accepting no more than 28 National Letters of Intent each year.[18] This move was widely viewed as a direct response to the University of Mississippi and its head coach, Houston Nutt, having promised 37 scholarships to new recruits for the 2009 season. Thus the rule is now commonly referred to as "The Houston Nutt Rule."

Saban's big issue was having so many medical retirements. Sounds familiar to UT fans...

Maybe. I'm just saying it is a strategy I've thought about recently and could be viable for some - some kids want to play 4 and redshirt, then transfer. What about just staying and extending your eligibility without uprooting your entire life?

Sure it could happen.

I get that - it’s just wishful thinking.

My feeling is people are hanging on to Bailey in this class like they did JJP in 2018.
Never really know what you are getting from a recruit coming in, especially at the QB position. It is very, very, very rare that a Freshman QB can come in and be prepared to start. I am afraid that many people are going to be very disappointed that he doesnt set the world on fire when he gets here.

As long as we’re doing that, throw JG’s rushing numbers up there. I’m guessing they’re not good. All he seems to do is slide 3 yards before a first down.

My point was that all options need to be looked at, not just the quarterbacks that are available today, and Hill was the highest rated coming out of high school

This years seems to be in the toilet. I was looking at the future. Maybe a flawed look with thinking Kasim Hill was more of a dual threat, but to think that Bailey is the answer from the day he steps foot on campus is also flawed.
I agree we need to look at Hill. We got him to come here for a reason and he might help us. There is no guarantee that HB will or should be the starter next year.

I can recall quite a number of other schools bringing in 30+. Maybe blueshirts maybe medicals idk for sure. Maybe butch started the blue shirt trend. Either way, we could use some of that right now!

Doesn’t mean they are ready to move on. Especially one that has a shot at making an NFL roster
He literally said “ready to move on” lol but I do think Bituli can get drafted, just not very early and it would help his draft stock to come back. By all means we could definitely benefit from him sticking around another year

With D'eriq King RSing, but returning to Houston - rumor is they are doing this with multiple seniors and letting young guys play. Sounds like a plan we need to steal. Callaway, Bituli, B.Johnson, DWA. Could use these guys next year.

Tanking without tanking. I like it. And I don’t like it.

T. Jordan - Lost carries with emergence of Eric Gray
D. Johnson - played sparingly this season in mop up duty
S. Reid - played sparingly this season in mop up duty
T. Jackson - Has improved this season
R. Locklear - played sparingly this season
S. Williams - first year in program. - played sparingly this season
L. Bumphus - has improved this season
W. Ignont - played out of necessity first 3 games, regressed.
M. Butler - played sparingly this season
D. Middleton - first year in program starter on D-line
S. Shamburger - Starter at Star position - has improved this season.
J. Palmer - Worse stats, may be due to QB play
T. Chandler - Good stats, despite offense struggling.

Personally I'm not interested in RS'ing anybody other than linemen on both sides to strengthen and gain maturity. Time to move on.

The performance of the team and coaching staff has created a very toxic situation. When you see GA State and BYU get waxed after witnessing what they did to this team in Neyland - this is as bad as it gets. Still 8 games left to make a radical transformation, but continuing to do what they are doing will not get it done. It will just bring another coaching search.

You definitely are a little off; that's why we're all here.

But, to change the subject, he's a senior.
Yeah I got confused by the “ready to get out” and the “playing for bowl prizes” comments. Made me think he has another year left. It doesn’t terribly surprise me that any of the upperclassmen want out after what they’ve been through. I fully expect see Bituli out there giving his all though. I could see Calloway and those others sending it in. That’s more where my surprise initiated.

Glaringly obvious that the majority of Butch hold overs are just not very good (to be nice). Even with Ignont - you may say he regressed, but i’d say he was never very good, and with HT by his side we are getting Exhibit A of what a good LB looks like, and Ignont is being exposed for what he has always been.

Butler was one of the better lineman against UF.
