I dont post often if at all but have been here for a while now. I have enjoyed this dark place and all the personalities it brings together. No matter our differences, we all share common ground when it comes to UT. That said, I tend to get long winded like Chatt and wanted to touch on a subject that has been on my mind for a bit.

I see its been a topic lately, and I believe it was Bruin who originally spoke up about it. This 25 cap rule is largely overlooked or has been by many. It stands to be a huge roadblock for us to ever recover from. Championship caliber teams are going to get elite recruits. Kids wanna win. So we must be creative in how we try to lure talent to Knoxville since the results on the field do not correlate to recruiting results.

The transfer rules I do not oppose. Kids deserve an opportunity to have their chance. I get that. Myself, I would stick by my decision, but 18 year olds dont think that way anymore in this instant gratification generation. Regardless I do not fault the kids for trying to better themselves. But it also isnt right to punish or see the programs suffer from it either. With the 25 signee cap in place, it compounds the issue.

Teams like Bama and Clemson etc. are riding the wave right now so to speak. They are all but guaranteed to pull in more elite talent. But to the schools like Tennessee that are in rebuild mode, the cap poses a real threat to potentially keep them stuck in that rut. Long ago teams would often sign 40 or more to a class and then let the competition sort itself out. The idea that it was unfair to student athletes was adopted by many and changes were made to appease the crowd. With a 25 cap a struggling program like UT cannot afford any misses or busts in recruiting, especially when trying to flip a roster devoid of talent, and thats asking a very tall order.

Fast forward and here we are with limitations abound on signees and you can see why its such a small window for Pruitt and staff to succeed here. This roster is in need of a flip badly, and he is handcuffed just as much in doing that as he is with playing capable football players on Saturdays.

I have no problem with the transfer rules as it stands, but combined with the 25 cap, it is one of many serious detriments to our football program. Unfortunately, LWS has been right all along. College football has changed and we never changed with it, were late to the party, or just couldn't get out of our own way, so we were left behind.

As the losses pile up, I see more and more fans come to grips with how deep we've fallen. I hate it for everyone. My first Vols game was Florida in '92. We whipped them like a dog. The next decade or so I was groomed to expect elite status. Before the season, I expected we would win every game When we took the field we could play with anybody in the country and they would dang well know it afterwards. We had real warriors all over the field. Guys that lived it, breathed it, and bled orange. I haven't felt that way in nearly 20 years.

We were so close in 2015, and still, so far far away. A good coach wins 11 with that roster. An elite coach should've/would've won a title. We squandered it in the most Tennessee way. Walking out of Neyland that night against Oklahoma, I knew it was over. We had our bout on the big stage, got punched, and couldn't get back up.

I don't blame fans for feeling this way or that. The criticisms are by and large deserved. This staff has underperformed. When you are paid to do a job and overpaid at that, there is an umderstanding the pressure will come. This staff doesnt seem to handle pressure well. I also can relate to those who say exhibit patience and consider what they were dealt coming here. Neither are wrong. Its just frustrating to so many of us.

Money, time, emotion; we pour so so much into this program. All we ask for in return is a Tennessee team we can be proud of. Regardless as we have all shown time and time again, no matter what we say, we're always gonna be there for this team. I just hope I'm still walking this Earth when they get ready to pay it back. It will be that much sweeter.

TL;DR- F bama, Kirby is a douche canoe, and Dan Mullen is a cuck. V,B!

I think Maurer pees down his leg and/or goes 100 mph like a Jack Russell puppy. But should be entertaining at least.

Also I’m glad night game. I’ll be traveling to Florida all day and should get to beach around before kickoff. There’s a cool outdoor theater at the Hub on 30A. Usually riddled with UGA fans. Should be a good night watching us get abused to start my vacation. GBO!

Excellent post

I think you should only have a 25 hard cap if you have a poor APR. If you're Houston Nutt and bring in huge classes only to see most of them regularly transfer or fail out, then you should be penalized.

However, if you're UT and you're regularly graduating your players and have several medical retirements, why have the 25 hard cap? Seems like more and more of the rules are put in place to make sure everyone at the top of the mountain stays up there.
Medical retirements are abused too...Saban was the first.

No matter the flexibility, it will always be abused. You could raise the number to 30, but there's 20 fewer 4 and 5 stars on the board that bama, uga, clemson, osu will soak up...

I don't agree with that to a degree, Georgia's defense isn't some behemoth. I think Mauer would take some tough shots but he is a gamer, way more so than Peterman ever was. You trot JG out there you are basically conceding victory at kickoff.
Maurer didn’t look the least bit scared vs FL. Kid is determined and a fighter. Not concerned about him losing confidence. Shrout on the other hand looked overwhelmed in the UTC game.

I know how some feel about Ubben but SIAP

On Monday, The Athletic reported that there was “a lot of tension” in the Tennessee locker room after the Vols’ loss to the Florida Gators.

According to the report, there were “multiple, loud disputes” after the game that centered around who deserved the blame for “several mistakes throughout the game”. The Athletic also noted that UT’s quarterback situation has “increased tensions”.

I rather hear about tensions than people smiling and dancing. At least a few give a damn🦉

I know I'm pretty tense about the QB situation.

See here's the one thing I'm not excited about when I hear these loud disputes happening in the locker room. Arguments over who should be blamed don't help anyone get better. Players need to focus on what they can do better, none of them especially sitting at 1-3 have any right to point fingers at teammates. There's accountability and then there's deflection. Blame game isn't the answer either, gotta have the fire internalized to be better for yourself and that'll translate to performing better for the team.

JG just isn't the type of QB leader the team needs right now, doesn't mean he's not a capable QB and in a different situation he might be balling out. This team needs the attitude of a Baker Mayfield, a vocal leader who can clear the mistakes and move on to the next play. Not someone whose going to beat themselves up over every mistake and take harsh coaching to heart.

Of the QBs on this team Maurer seems the only one that fits the bill. He's going to make plenty of mistakes on the field, he's going to throw it hot and make poor decisions. The difference seems to be he lets that all go on the next play. That to me is what makes him the better starter moving forward. JG is just going to keep letting it "pile on" so to speak and even if he's a practice day hero, he can't seem to shake his game day miscues and move on to the next snap.

Not to pump sunshine but the 30 points we scored against Georgia State are the fewest points they have given up in a game this season.
We scored 23 against GA State. That last one was complete, stat-padding, bs garbage.

Excellent post! I still think the 2015 & 2016 Vols could’ve done some damage. Those teams were loaded.

That 2015 squad had 4 losses, back to back blown leads against OU and UF, an inexplicable loss to Arky, and led bama with only a few minutes left at Tuscaloosa. Too bad we had an idiot for a head coach who didnt understand clock or game management. With a competent coach we are in a very diffwrent place right now. We were on the cusp of our return, and even then we signed 35 that class. Cant even do that now, and expect things to get better and sooner rather than later.

If I'm a defensive player I'm also pissed at the QB for squandering every opportunity the defense has given him

I missed the 4th quarter of the game and just saw that we lost. So you're saying it's even worse than what my post stated........that's awesome.
Precisely. It was 38-23 and we scored a garbage TD when they emptied their bench so that the 3rd and 4th stringers could say that they played in the game where GA State beat Tennessee in Neyland Stadium. Makes me want to puke...
