it’s a business and that business is winning football games. Urban isn’t some devil-man. Has made mistakes like everyone else here. Only his mistakes are subject to public shaming. Bring him in. Win a lot of football games over 3-4 years. Top 5 recruiting classes. He leaves UT in premier shape for the foreseeable future.

Our fan base, and I include myself in that number, publicly revolted against the hire of Meyer’s DC, who he personally recommended. We called Schiano, his friend, an enabler of child rape. Even if we weren’t a total reclamation project (unlike when he went to Florida and Ohio State) why is Urban Meyer going to want to come to Tennessee?

Butch is there Bc he wants a head job and he’s one of the best special teams coaches around.

Say what you want about butch but our special teams were always good. It’s why saban brought him down in the first place.
I agree. Saban let’s CBJ coach and he has lots of input. Saban is smart to let us pay for him to be there. Saban gets an extra coach for minimal pay

It's a specialty of Jimmy Sexton's. UT sure is lucky to have alums like Sexton and Finebaum.
I would insist on two things when I did a contract. If they weren't for it I would move in. One is the coaches buyout would be equal to the schools buyout and there would be offsetting language in the contract.

I would try some other things too but they'd never fly probably. Let's just say it would be heavily incentive laden. You win big, you get paid big. You lose bigly, you don't get much money.

This is all encouraging to hear and I am truly rooting for Fulmer, but at the same time, Fulmer is the one who picked Pruitt, who now is supposedly in so far over his head that he’s going to wash out in year two. If Pruitt is so unqualified/incompetent shouldn’t Fulmer have figured that out? He also passed on Mel Tucker, who is off to a very impressive start at Colorado (although it’s too early to judge that hire either). And if we move on from Pruitt are we also going to dump Chaney, a guy that Fulmer apparently was instrumental in hiring?

It's always risky to hire an unproven HC at a program like UT. Your odds are 50/50 at best. IDK what Fulmer saw in Pruitt that made him think he could shorten the learning curve. Maybe that something will emerge with time... or maybe he bet on the wrong horse. I guess we'll see.

Not sure how confident anybody can be with what we've seen and where we are. UT is going to have to find more ways to help him.
What else can they really do? The coaches around him are all proven and very good. Great facilities. Great recruiting potential. Fulmer is a great mentor. No one expected to be a great team this year, but it is unacceptable that we have regressed in every single area in year two. That is all on Pruitt. There isn't anything else that we can give him to help imo.

If Fulmer has already given him every coach he could want and tons of help from others already then why are we are continuing to have to find more ways to help? This sounds like a head coach who is out of his league and they are trying to save a buyout.

Never said he would want to come to Tennessee. Just that the fans who don’t want him must really be some masochists.

his assistants aren't proven and never really have been for the most part. their claim to fame was recruiting.

I think a very big point that is being largely overlooked - but I saw mentioned a few pages back - is how the new 25 signing limit is hurting new coaches in need of rebuilding/changing a culture. Imagine if Pruitt could’ve booted dudes to the transfer portal and brought in 30-35 studs his first two years like Butch? I think we’d have a different young QB playing right now, and even more freshmen and sophomores playing and showing some serious potential.

I hated that rule change when it was first enacted and I think all the concerns about making it harder for teams to burst on the scene and catch up to the top guys have come true.

Things are harder than ever to turn around. Pruitt hasn’t given us much hope, but I think patience is still a major key, right behind finding a new QB.

What's the saving point? I'd think 4-8 is safe. Uab, miss st, vandy, usc, uk. Need 3 of 5

4-8 is probably safe but would be worse case imo. that not only further proves that we have a shi* headcoach but one that is going to an ultra hotseat year 3 so good luck recruiting and bringing in new assistants bc im sure some will be leaving. similar to dooleys last year.

it would be better to just completely nuke this season and go 1-11 or 2-10 an go ahead and cut our losses and go a different route.

Anybody that can't see that this is a player problem is blind. All you have to do is watch the younger players to see that the coaching is there. The play calling is limited by the ability of the players but I seldom see the wrong calls made. Game management is also fine.

The younger guys will make mistakes as they learn. They will get beat at times but you rarely see them make bonehead plays like a lot of our upperclassmen.

There is only so much you can do with a lack of speed, lack of depth, lack of football intelligence, will and discipline in older players....a QB who has no downfield vision or touch or pocket presence and a safety who can't diagnose plays.

I won't judge Pruitt harshly until this roster is flipped. If recruiting rules still allowed teams to sign 30-35 players this rebuild would have been much faster.

Not getting older players to buy in is a knock against this staff but how many of them could start for other SEC teams. Young guys playing well tells me that coaching and evaluation is fine.

I said this yesterday in the FF game thread and got blasted. But I see a team of players with a low football IQ and a group of coaches who have a high football IQ. So much is getting lost. It’s like trying to explain football to my 8 year old daughter. There’s just a large chasm dividing the players and the coaches. Just a theory as to why there is so much confusion.
