I’ll blame the player that busted the play. He literally had 3 pass plays called all day and I’d be willing to bet you’re one of those that feel Pruitts evaluations are now completely justified

I think the evaluation that JG is far and away the better QB at this stage has been proven true and those that have said so to this point have been justified. I think fans such as yourself calling for the backup QB to change the fate of our team is ridiculous. So many factors come into playing QB at this level and fans like you continue to beg for kids to play that are clearly not our best option at this time. BM played in a HS offense where he didn't have to think at all, just float to one side of the field and throw, the exact opposite of the system we run. He threw for a billion yards, a million touchdowns, a ton of interceptions and won very few games, to continue to harp that he is better than JG is just not true at this time. What he may have in talent he may also lack in maturity, until those 2 traits line up a bit more he's a backup QB, period. We need better QB play moving forward but it'll rightly be JGs job until at least the middle part of the year. I personally think he'll start every game the next 2 seasons followed up by HB the next 3 years. If he gets time to throw next week vs Fl I think he'll have some success.

Still the wrong question. The right question is whether the starter is playing well enough to beat good opponents and whether he's reached his ceiling. The follow up question is whether one of the other two if given the opportunity can play at a higher level. After losing to the 10th and 11th worst opponents on the schedule, what is UT playing for? JG is a graduate. Very likely he'll transfer before next season. Why not play for the future?

BYU beat ranked USC today. Maybe BYU is considerably better than most of you think.

I’m happy you were able to evaluate him on such a short sample size of 3 pass plays and would suggest applying for UT as a qb evaluator. Bring them back to this post to prove you only needed 3 pass plays to determine what’s taken them months. It’s even more of a special talent to do so in a style of offense that a kid has NEVER ran. He’s a pocket passer with an ability to run. Not an option qb. But maybe I should’ve asked you before making such a assumption given that you already feel comfortable that HB is so much better.

Did anyone notice Pruitt and Weinke talking to Maurer after his touchdown? It looked like they were being a little harsh to him. Does anyone know what was going on?

I hope they were being harsh, if such was called for. During the Jones era, I never saw him get on an underperforming player, ever. If Pruitt chewed his tail, good for Pruitt. It's what we need.

He was "hot dogging" for no reason. Ball control is paramount and Maurer strutted in with no ball control. Yeah, it's UTC, but these are fundamental issues that need to be addressed.

I didn't see him "strut". He dove for the pylon. I can understand ball security, but let's be honest here. This OL has been a liability for years now. Odd are that we wouldn't have been able to push it in from the 1 or 2 yard line so I wouldn't be too harsh on Maurer. He made the play. We need more of that.

They were pissed because he didn’t use two hands when diving into the end zone. Does Alton Howard ring a bell???

Based on the replay I saw, there was no way he could have had 2 hands on the ball and gotten it inside the pylon. He got the score the only way he could have IMO. The staff will likely see that in film study of the game. They were wrong on this one.

You're right. Maurer didn't really check down to his safe pass to pad his stats did he? He showed ambition and grit. So odd..

Saw what was happening from the start with Brian.....no way they were going to let him throw and throw and throw and show anyone up.....
They were'nt trying to let the kid succeed. Something bad wrong at Tennessee with this Quarterback club of coaches......Brian wasn't going to get to show the coaches up.....This group of coaches are far far far behind...i mean far behind....can't anyone on Tennessee's coaching staff coach QB's....this is ridiculous......

Not really. He’s known as a pocket passer first. Been watching the kid since his freshman (HS) year and he’s NEVER ran a read option. EVER.

Oh, I know he's a passer first. I've just noticed he's been getting more attention for his scramble ability since his o&w game debut. He's obviously got legs compared to jt and jg, and I think that's why that skill-set was showcased today.

JG is the best we have. Maurer and Shrout both looked bad against a bad team. Not that JG is much better but Pruitt was right neither of the young QBs are ready.

Scenario #1 is most likely. Even though he is a pro-type, he's good at the run. Can keep defenses on their heels.
I think he would've matched up better with the starters. Watch Keyton start catching passes when HB shows up lol

Let me reword my statement. It looked to me like JT's plays were basically all design as passing with little thought on the run game. Brian's plays appeared to be designed as rpos with the emphasis on the run. Just an observation

JT is a Pro Style QB and Brian is more Dual threat. The announcers even pointed it out.

Brian has a different skill set. Shrout is more of your pocket passer and Maurer is more mobile. I think Chaney was trying to call the plays according to their strengths
