So in this play we were playing Cover 3 “Buzz”. A lot of teams play this in long passing downs because you disguise your 3 deep in different ways and get turnovers but you need really good safeties to do this. Seattle made a living off this particular coverage during their legion of boom era with kam&earl on the back end.

This is what we come out in on the final 3rd down, which i have no problem with.. very common coverage for this situation. Here is the alignment and roles that should have taken place. Buzz safety is intended to stay around the sticks and key on the check down and keep him from the first down.

So the outside CBs are playing bail coverage. where their biggest responsibility is no one get behind you. Mistake #1. Most teams Jam the WRs at the line (or at least attempt to reroute if playing off) bc their expecting them to go vertical so it delays the play (hopefully pass rush gets there)... we should have jammed here and not give outside WRs free release when warrior (FS) is only covering the middle 1/3 of the field.

Mistake #2. 26 slot corner is playing curl/flat coverage. Any vertical routes HAVE to be disrupted/rerouted to help the FS and outside CB. By not re-routing the inside seem route... it made alontae have to cover 2 people in the back outside 1/3 and since we didn’t jam and gave the WRs a free release...Nigel couldn’t get there in time.

26 should not be floating back on his heels. As soon as his man is going vertical he needs reroute his man first and then he can go into his curl/flat combo.

The RB on this play is coming to sit down in the middle to dump too and run to the first down. This was the buzz man. If he catches the ball he can come downhill and deliver a blow to keep him from the sticks.

Long story short... the call was fine. 95% of the time that ball either goes to the RB and the buzz makes a tackle or the QB is making (imo) the toughest throw in football where even if your WR gets behind the CB playing Jam then bail coverage. He has to to throw a semi floating bullet that has enough arc to get over the corner but not too much to where the safety has time to get there.

Four verticals or Single side double verts is the most common call against this coverage. In a long passing down. Which is what they ran on the top side.
Your ass needs to get banned for reminding us all of this. GTFO.

Micheal Penix Jr has apparently been balling for Indiana. We really screwed up by not going all out for Martinez, but I really wanted Penix also and felt he had high upside.

He’s the lowest rated pass defender in the SEC
Bryce is on another level frok any corner on this roster. I got a feeling we put on a show defensively in Gainesville if Bituli plays also. Hopefully Ty and Gray can break free a few times, I have no faith in JG at all. My only hope is he finds JJ at least 6 times, I know JJ will score at least twice on 6 catches.

Yea I’m starting to think i whiffed on alontae. He held it down as a freshmen but we played A LOT more man. Some corners are more comfortable in a certain roll. We are in zone seems like about 75% of the time

How bout we make a list of players that have left UT and gone on to do great things someplace else.
No, wait...it would be too depressing.

Remember against Auburn, JG just threw it up high and let our WR go get the 50-50 balls.
Why not do that again?

From what I have heard, and this seems to make sense, BYU played alot of zone 3 deep basically forcing to make JG make the underneath throws, which sounds simple enough, but when you can't HS level reads to decipher the D, you saw what you did...INTs and then CJC handcuffed. Just have to hope JG can figure out this out or Mauer takes over (which short of a JG meltdown ain't happening until GA game).

This is true. Hitting seam routes and deep comebacks are the way to beat cover 3. That isn’t his strong suit. I expect Florida to play a ton of that bc im betting they will think they can pressure without bringing many extra guys.

I had this crazy dream. It was pretty wild. I’m on this football team and Pruitt is the coach but we’re not a very good team. Pruitt decides to take extreme measures to build a better football team so he turns to some old retired moonshiners. These are the real deal moonshiners from way back, overall wearing, tobacco spittin’, never bathe sort of moonshiners. I guess that would be like AtlantaVol and those guys. Anyway I’m still there and we’re inside the “factory” of this once upon a time big time moonshiner and there’s snakes in the place. I hate snakes. I hate snakes really bad. They start making fun of me for being afraid of snakes. This one big snake is on a sill and launches himself toward me but out of nowhere there’s a basin of liquid nitrogen and I slide it into place to catch the snake. As I was waking up there’s a sort of jingle playing in my head. Ni, ni, ni, ni, ni ni, ni ni, There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. There is a signpost up ahead-- your next stop . . . Tennessee Football! Ni, ni, ni, ni, ni ni, ni ni.

Why would we stop playing man? Just because BT is out?

It’s okay. Hockey season will be here soon.
meh. the Pens are old. they'll probably suck too. the Steelers play the Seahawks on Sunday so i'm sure htey'll wind up 0-2 as well.

my only hope until "next year" is the winter/spring sports. again.
