Basilio saying Fulmer/Chaney want a new QB

[QUOTE="Booker512, post: 17169048, member: 69559"[
“Maybe he really does go to Gainesville and trot out a new guy to make his first start.

So you think he knows he may have a winner, but it willing to take a couple losses just to “trot” him out for a Florida game? Then this guy comes in with ZERO game experience and saves the day.

Heck if he had any inclination one of the backups was “the guy” why in the world would he not give them some experience leading up the the Florida game.

I’m not saying one of these guys shouldn’t be given a chance, I’m just saying this scenario is.........prob off just a bit.

If Pruitt wants to save the season (and possibly his job), he has to start a different QB against UTC. He literally has nothing to lose at this point.
Starting won’t be the pressing issue. It’s who FINISHES with the best evaluation.

This thread is EXACTLY WHY Basilio makes these types of comments! People talk about it and will listen in. Basilio cares more about his ratings than Vol football! Shut it down boys! GO COACH PRUITT AND GO VOLS!!!

This right here is head in the sand coach worship... The head coach at UT can do no wrong boys! He's incapable of sucking cause he wears a power T hat and takes my phone call on Vol Calls. And he signed my skoal can

The sheep are baaing big time lately. It's like they think it's their job to defend Jeremy Pruitt!

Yeah I'm sure Fulmer is all for spreading division in a program he is trying to get back on it's feet. This is exactly most people don't listen to Basillio he spreads to much fiction.

I completely disagree. Fulmer is Athletic Director. From a leadership perspective he absolutely can have opinions about HC decisions and should convey them. Bosses do this all the time. No one is ever hired without the person who hired them being frank about the job performance. These conversations are happening behind closed doors. Fulmer has been quiet, and that's proper as well. He hasn't said publicly "Pruitt should sit JG," but it is 100% within his purview to tell his subordinate what he thinks. ESPECIALLY if... ESPECIALLY if the AC's expertise is your job. that ring on Fulmer's finger matters. Pruitt is a novice coach well on his way to going back to DB's coach someplace, and certainly spoiling his chances to ever head coach again or DC for the SEC. He should listen.

I'm sure this is EXACTLY what will happen and it will be yet another step in the wrong direction. Pruitt needs full rein. Any direction from Fulmer (without him asking) shows lack of confidence. That would be extraordinarily poor leadership on Fulmer's part.

Fulmer: "We'd like ya' to be our ball coach. Been watching' ya'. We think you the man."
Pruitt: "Thanks for the opportunity. Always admired you."
Fulmer: "Good son but don't think I'm gon' be in yo' way. I'm done coachin', this is yo' team."
Pruitt: "Aight"

One season later...

Fulmer: "Wrong quarterback son."
Pruitt: "?"

Nope.

It's called boundaries. There should be a division of labor. If Fulmer has any suggestions whatsoever to Pruitt, he has crossed an important line. Doing so guarantees more difficulty in hiring coaches in the future. It is Fulmer's place the run the athletic department in general and he should have absolutely no say whatsoever in any personnel decisions.
Nothing wrong with an AD making recommendations, NOT demands, simply recommend.

Hang in there Coach Pruitt. This is YOUR team! You don't see Phil telling Coach Barnes who to put in at guard do you?[/QUOfrom one Soddy boy to another Phil also doesn’t have a national title and wasn’t an all American in basketball

Wut?

It's micromanaging. Never works. Call it recommendations, suggestions, friendly advice, whatever. Always damaging to morale. No different than the Provost telling the Chair of the Chemistry department he's teaching too much stoichiometry.

Just listened to his show.
He said that his anonymous source X in the UTAD is saying:
Fulmer is extremely upset that Pruitt didn’t get us a good transfer QB for this season.
Chaney thinks our two backups have better arms and more football IQ than JG. He wants to try one but CJP vetoed.

I know many here don’t like Basilio or care what he says.
I’m just passing along what he said.
So much for the "coaches know who is best and that is who is on the field" theory.

Maybe because Fulmer wasn't a basketball coach?? JC

No, because the is the athletic director, not the football coach. Pruitt is the football coach. Fulmer has exactly the authority to tell Pruitt who to start as Pruitt does to tell Fulmer who to hire for Women's Golf. I know this is hard to swallow but it is just how it is and should be.

it's not an argument w/out logic, i can admit that.

but i can't get it out of my head that if either guy presented legit opportunity to improve the chances of winning given what we've seen from JG so far, they'd get the nod.
But we both know that’s not how personnel decisions go. One guy may give up on a player or see hope where others don’t. Some of this is objective but what a coach thinks about one player or another going forward has some subjectivity and speculation. But it is exactly those decisions that separate successful coaches from the unsuccessful.

Pruitt is betting his job that JG will improve. I hope he’s right but JGs consistent play over the last three years tells me he’s not.

It seems obvious to me that Pruitt likes JGs effort , toughness, arm talent, et al and doesn’t want to give up on him. That could be the exact right thing to do but he could also be blinding himself
