I *think* this is correct too. However, it won’t matter if they don’t succeed on the field. If they don’t win games this year, they won’t be able to recruit well enough to build depth. If they don’t build depth, we’ll be in this same position next year. Then we’ll hire a new coach with a new system and some of the current guys will look like busts - and Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall (shoutout @BruinVol) will be an evaluation expert and the last coach will have been an idiot. We are in on different types of guys. It's obvious.
With Butch, his classes had potential but he made risks and they didnt pan out. But that's why hes not here. If they didn't pan out, he'd still be here. That's how that works.
Might they have been pretty hollow? Yeah that’s probably the case. But I know how this works. The current coach finds all the diamonds in the rough and knows how to “coach them up.” The last coach had none of those traits and all their signings were busts.
Either way, we’re not making up ground on the teams we need to beat to be competitive. We need elite classes. Not “pretty good” classes. That was the expectation when we hired Pruitt and it has not come to pass.
As I said yesterday, but people were too busy talking about Fahring Pruitt to discuss, we can still do that this year. The SEC east outside of GA and Fl are on the same level as us it looks like. We can still make noise in November. 6 games is not out of the question IF, and I know its a major if, they can get better QB play.I remember 1988 with 6 straight loses. They fought Bama pretty good in that sixth loss iirc. Went on to win 5 straight and 1989 propelled us to a decade of success.
A lot of inexperience and youth. Give it time. Who wants to volunteer to hang out on the billboard until we win?
Recruiting is “pretty good.”
Dooley’s three classes: 7th, 14th, 19th // avg. 13.3
Butch’s 4 classes: 25th, 7th, 4th, 14th // avg. 12.5
You’d say all of those were “pretty good” but none of them bridged the talent gap between us and the top of the SEC.
Pruitt’s 3 classes: 21st, 13th, 22nd (right now - 3/4 wins will make sure it doesn’t improve) // avg. 18.6
So yes, it is “substandard” by comparing it to previous staffs’ recruiting output. And it is certainly substandard by SEC comparison.
And Georgia, Alabama, Clemson etc. will all be ramming that down recruit's throats. Going winless in the conference and winning only a couple of non-conference games will spell disaster for the recruiting class. There is a 0% chance of a top 10 recruiting class if we're losing to teams with far, far inferior talent like the last two. Anyone with a brain knows that Pruitt isn't in a secure position, even if every single one of the "Fire Pruitt" crowd got sucked into a black hole. Top recruits want to play for a coach who gets the most out of whatever talent he has. That's how coaches with bad records can still get top recruits, they can show that lack of talent is the only issue. We are a thousand times more talented than the two teams we just lost to, so Pruitt can't sell that message to top recruits.
You're already starting a coaching search list... So yes you areFor the record, I am not advocating for Pruitt to be fired. I don’t want it to happen.
But it is going to take something trajectory altering for this thing to work out. There is no evidence to support the conclusion that this coaching staff is going to survive.
Florida just lost Toney and their best CB Henderson for awhile. They were already thin just about everywhere else too. We have a chance..As I said yesterday, but people were too busy talking about Fahring Pruitt to discuss, we can still do that this year. On JG, without contributing to any of the camps advocating this or that, I’ll say that beyond recognizing what he should or shouldn’t he ain’t good at throwing to ball to whomever is supposed to be receiving it. BYU QB had some issues...lots actually...but getting the ball to the BYU playmakers wasn’t one of them. Other QB’s that we glimpse on highlights (that end up with wins) May misfire from time to time but they don’t make a cottage industry out of it. I’d like to see a good gripit&RipIt exhibition against UTC...whomever can handle that.
Our OL is playing good football, our defense is playing okay, much better Saturday than the week before, our skill players are as good as anyone not named GA and Bama on our schedule. With QB play we can still win some games. JG needs to figure this out man. Somehow, some wayFlorida just lost Toney and their best CB Henderson for awhile. They were already thin just about everywhere else too. We have a chance..
A ton depends on this. Keep this team together through the lumps - and hope they’re getting better in the process - and I’d guess we can beat an SEC team or two to close out the season.I remember 1988 with 6 straight loses. They fought Bama pretty good in that sixth loss iirc. Went on to win 5 straight and 1989 propelled us to a decade of success.

JG will be in the transfer portal before the end of the year. Playing time is available for every position except maybe a couple of LB spots. Everything else is wide open....that is crazy. Exciting but crazy.Bailey is licking his chops right now.
