My question is why aren’t they ready?
What Power 5 team only has one QB who is “ready”?
Plenty of freshman play these days . Kids are more ready than they used to be. But this calculus Pruitt has to make. Hopefully we can see them against UTC, but then what? Keeping JG in to run that zone stretch against FL ain't going to work. I think JG has to start in Swamp. Miami threw their RS fresman out there and look what happened, on neutral turf, no less. I think were stuck with JG until November.

I think Mississippi state will be a much harder opponent than South Carolina by the time they get here. They are still breaking in QB. Good coaching staff too.

I think what Moorhead was dealing with in Fitzgerald is what Chaney is dealing with in Guarantano. An upperclass qb who isn’t as far as he should be when it comes to reading defenses and making quick decisions and accurate throws.

Moorhead decided to ride or die with Fitz and the ground game last year. But now with Stevens and Schrader that offense is starting to look crisp.

We will have to see if Chaney dusts off the playbook him and Kiffin used to simplify the game for Crompton, or roll the dice to see if one of the youngsters is a gamer like Bray.

No, 3 five stars easily gets you top 5.
Fwiw Walker isn't a 5*.

But I'm just running the numbers on the 247 calculator. We'd have 64 points with those 3. Good for anywhere from 9th to 16th based on the last 3 years results. Mostly just because of the class size. Memphis was #1 last year but had a whopping 7 commits. We need at least a good 4th player to close top 5.

Running the class calculator with both Springer and PJ Hall we have just over 68 points, good for 5th the last 2 years. Would be a stunning class for UT. Not sure we've ever had a top 5 class in basketball.

Well, Walker has been a 5 star and has recently been bumped. He commuted early and plays at Hargrave. I read that he doesn’t play AAU, so that can effect is ranking. Pretty sure he was top 20-25 at one point.

Yea, class size can influence it, but Duke had two 5’s and two 4’s this past year and were 3rd. Regardless of calculations, any basketball recruiting expert would probably say it’s a top 5 and probably top 3 class. It’s a Duke type class without having to replace half the team.

Ventured into the football forum and saw this...glad I read it:
Must read!!!

Copy and pasted from another group:

Guys, I wanted to share this with you... This morning as my gf and I were leaving Knoxville I stopped at a gas station to get some drinks for the trip home. As I came out I seen a man pumping gas in his truck and this truck had a big Tennessee helmet magnet on it that said my player is #70. I thought unless this dudes wife has a huge crush on this #70, this must be a parent of the player #70. So I walk up near the pumps and say, “Sir, does your son play for the Vols?” He said, “Yes he does.” I said, “well you tell him to keep his head up.” He said, “You tell him.” So this man proceeds to turn around and talk into the truck and tell this #70 that a fan out here wants to talk to him and to get out of the truck. Well.... Ryan Johnson (OL) gets out of the truck and we meet each other along with my gf around the front of the truck. Guys.... as I tell you this story, my heart is heavy as much as it was then... Ryan looking depressed af, looks at me and says, “I’m sorry” also apologizing to my gf as she had just told him it was her first game and he tilts his head down slightly. This absolutely crushed me as a fan of The University of Tennessee Athletics. So, I put my hand out for a handshake and he immediately shook my hand. Then I said, “Hey, you owe NOBODY an apology, you keep your head up. Your blood, sweat and tears are appreciated by me. You do your best and that’s all we as fans can ask for. You hit those books and grab that degree and let the rest take care of itself. You’re young, this is gonna fly by... it only lasts a few years. All you can do is all you can do. Keep your head up Ryan.” He shook his head and said, Thank you, I really appreciate that.” And I walked away and he got back in the truck. His dad thanked us as we got back in my car.
To you people on here and fans out there, we are often too hard on these players. Remember where your mind was from 18-22? Don’t criminalize these young men for what they do on the field. They also have heavy hearts... they are practicing their asses off daily for hours and giving us their time on Saturday’s. They are committed to something valuable to help them grow as men that more than half of us weren’t doing at that age. Some athletes just don’t have it and some do.... they are wearing orange on that field. Carry yourselves with pride and humble yourselves. Stop lashing out and making fun of our record, ticket prices, losses, players, etc. What happens on that field doesn’t effect our lives or atleast shouldn’t... if it does then you need to do some self evaluating. It DOES effect these young athletes lives... everything we say about them or their team in general effects them, as well as dedicating themselves to sports. Chill out guys.... try to be more supportive.

Have read the same elsewhere.

Now would be a fine time to run what Helton tried last year but failed because our run game was poo poo. 60/40 run and leave passes to simple screens, comebacks, or PA deep jump balls. Very little over the middle. Take the control from him and only let him throw what he is good at. It limits the offense, but at least gives us a chance.

So basically scrap your whole playbook because your QB sucks? F-that. Bench him and play a Freshman who may not make all the best reads but at-least there is an excuse for it.

I am just thinking of what is the best adjustment to help JG. He was better last year in a system with constraints. Not scrapping an entire playbook, it's making it smaller. Plenty of coaches simplify things so players can just play and think less. Not uncommon.

Fwiw this is in the hypothetical that the coaches don't care for either backups and we ride JG. Then you have to adjust something to help him.

Not sure what your point of having an excuse is. Just give us the best chance to win, don't care about excuses.

A true stock reminder.....
1. When a stock has higher highs and higher lows the stock is going higher
2. When a stock has lower highs and lower lows its heading downward until it bottoms or some news or event hits to make it change direction for the better of its investors

Same rule applies to the Vols football program

I hope we beat UTC but I also hope that we either do enough damage that a Freshman plays, JG sucks bad enough that a Freshman plays, or a Freshman starts the game as a wake up call to JG for sucking so bad.

Do you not understand me? The guys on the roster aren’t showing improvement. Guys are the same players they were the second they stepped on campus. Most making the same mistakes they have been making since day one.
I’m telling y’all, we have gotten to a place with our program where playing tough vs a bad BYU team is a positive.
The talent on their roster is NOWHERE NEAR ours. And they made adjustments all game to stop what we do. We actually wilted and gave away a late lead.
The coaching leaves a lot to be desired.
Great coaches have an immediate impact on style of play and playing tendencies immediately. Nick Saban walked in and had players playing better. Even if the record didn’t show right away. That’s what you want to see in coaches. Urban Meier, same. Even Mack Brown has UNC Playing smart and better football. Meanwhile we, play like ass vs Georgia state and BYU. Bad fundamentals, misalignments, penalties, undisciplined play, Garbage substitution patterns... etc

I want to argue... but can’t
