There is talent on the this squad. But where it’s lacking is OL & QB.
But there are lesser teams who get more out of the talent then we do AND that is COACHING. whether it’s teaching, information, alignment, tendencies or play calling. There is a huge disconnect in our football program
It’s obvious you don’t keep up with recruiting and just spout off random emotional comments. Why because he was at the game? Because he posted a picture of a UT flag? Because Austin Prive wrote an article? I hope I'm wrong and he stays with us. But I'm not hanging my hopes on anything g I read over there.
I don’t care how they look in practice. Let’s see how they look under the lights. Give them a chance. Dobbs was a terrible QB to everyone because of practice reports, but he literally saved our seasons for a couple of years.
Last week I thought this way but now I’m thinking the only way out of this hole is to support Pruitt and give him the time for a true rebuild. He’s a far better coach than the last few guys and surrounded by great coaches and all the support staff he needs.
The truth is with a good QB we’re 2-0 right now despite all the other issues. The best players on the team are freshman and sophomores, they wouldn’t even be playing yet at Bama or UGA or Clemson. We’re forced to play them before they’re ready. It’ll be the same way with the 2020 and 2021 classes as well.
There’s no way around this rebuild. Firing Pruitt isn’t the answer. Not this week, in November or next November. He didn’t suddenly become a bad football coach after arriving in Knoxville. Neither did Chaney or any of the other guys.
Recruit, develop and time is the only answer right now. Blowing it up will only delay any progress and no matter who the next coach is the same cycle will occur.
Again, a good QB and we’re 2-0.
Or maybe I’m wrong and let’s just keep firing and hiring new coaches every 2-4 years until one is able to win despite lack of talent and development.
So let's see a show of hands.... If we win 2-3 games this year, who's still on the Pruitt bus? Just chocking it up to bad players? How you gonna feel when we go 0'fer in conference? Because that's a definite possibility.
You left out the 6 year part. It’s a process. I’m not saying I’m all in until year 6 but I’m definitely not out after only 1 full recruiting cycle. Once the majority of the team is his players and if we are still seeing the same **** then yea, I’ll say he is the problem. That’s why he’s getting paid $3.8 mil a year.
Several RF posters have turned into FF posters. Getting weird in here.
You post the most defeatist, lay down and quit horses**t I've ever read on here. I bet you walk outside and complain that the sun is bright too. Boohoo, get a gripI'm literally convinced Nick Saban and Dabo wouldn't be able to make it here. Tennessee is a storied program with rich history, the best fans, and great facilities yet it's a terrible terrible job and everyone knows it. I sincerely don't believe we will ever win the SEC East in my lifetime.
The real freakout begins when Bailey decommits later this year.
Well that was just the most recent and easiest to point too. But HB has said from the beginning that he wants to help rebuild this program. If people actually kept up with things, they’d have known that.I assume you and the other person were debating this article?
VolQuest - Harrison Bailey solid, focused on making sure 2020 class 'stays together'
Asking for a friend. Typically after a loss how long does it take for the sewage in the FF to stop seeping into the RF?
That is not the reason we lost. We lost because we could only muster 16 points with the best OL play in two years. JG had time to throw. We had some pretty good running lanes. We moved the ball. Terrible execution on their side of the field and a gift 7 points is why we lost. JG is pretty accurate but he does not deliver it on time.JG is having a terrible yr no doubt. But the way we criticize him is over the top. We blame EVERYTHING on JG. We lost bc we couldn’t convert 4 and 1 on several occasions and the defense couldn’t stop BYU with 17 secs and NO timeouts from there own 20 yard line PERIOD. As bad as JG was we lost that came bc of 17 secs.
Years of suspect fundamentals have to be reversed, years of suspect strength and conditioning HAVE TO BE REVERSED some of that takes time. This program has had very bad moves regarding those recently, a ton of turnover and ONE ****ING CLASS of new players with a DIFFERENT MINDSET. Nick Saban had his boys lose to ULM late in the season. FOH with that noise.Do you not understand me? The guys on the roster aren’t showing improvement. Guys are the same players they were the second they stepped on campus. Most making the same mistakes they have been making since day one.
I’m telling y’all, we have gotten to a place with our program where playing tough vs a bad BYU team is a positive.
The talent on their roster is NOWHERE NEAR ours. And they made adjustments all game to stop what we do. We actually wilted and gave away a late lead.
The coaching leaves a lot to be desired.
Great coaches have an immediate impact on style of play and playing tendencies immediately. Nick Saban walked in and had players playing better. Even if the record didn’t show right away. That’s what you want to see in coaches. Urban Meier, same. Even Mack Brown has UNC Playing smart and better football. Meanwhile we, play like ass vs Georgia state and BYU. Bad fundamentals, misalignments, penalties, undisciplined play, Garbage substitution patterns... etc
And this is the exact reason you bench him. He doesn’t give us any chance to win. You ride with Shrout and Maurer. If they both get hurt, play a walk-on or even Jajuan. Playing Shrout or Maurer now gives us a chance of winning winnable games in the 2nd half of the season. He’s a LOSER. Does not win. Prove me wrong LOSER. Not calling poster a loser but JG to be clear.
I want y’all to notice a common denominator.
The lack of production from nearly every big name recruit.
There is a weakness in what is being taught and coached.
These guys aren’t sorry athletes AT ALL.
They aren’t horrible football players, they just haven’t gotten any better since arriving on campus and THATS THE PROBLEM.
I'm reminding you that reminding us how right you are is not a good idea.Let’s run a little thought experiment:
Disregard the Georgia State game. If I told you all on August 1st, the first day of camp, that we’d lose to BYU but we “played hard” and “the crowd was really good” and those things would be cited as progress and a job well done by the coaching staff, you all would have laughed me off as a negaVol.
Some serious moving of the goalposts going on this morning.
The upperclassmen are still their responsibility is what I think Jay is saying. They should be getting more out of them.I hear you, but there is little to no evidence to support this. Each coach on staff has a pretty damn good resume, especially as those who are just good at coaching ball.
Eric Gray is producing a lot more than I expected, and he looks special at times. Darnell Wright is close to starting. Henry T might as well be the defensive captain, and he’s making instinctive reads you’d expect from upper class men.
When I think of “big names” that aren’t producing, I’m noticing they weren’t recruited by this staff. Callaway and JG are good examples.
