Agreed. Already said it but repeating for truth.
Of course folks that never liked Pruitt will always say just coaching only but you CANNOT coach out fire or temper.
Someone shoves you, you get mad and shove back, period. Unless you're just not wired that way.
Look at Ryan Hilinski firing up his team and the fans after he scored a TD. I don’t think I’ve ever seen JG do that. I’ve seen him raise his arms to celebrate his own doing, but I don’t think I’ve seen JG try and get the fans or teammates going.

This is true. Why is that? I’m not going to act as you are right now that we are a very talented team. We’re not. We aren’t more talented than AU. Again, we had 0 draft picks last year. And how many do you feel like will get drafted from our upper class man this year? We can speculate on freshmen but that’s just speculation. Outside of Callaway who do you feel like is drafted off this team? It’s just not true to say we have a lot of talent and it’s only coaching as you’re trying to imply here for whatever reason. I think you want your preseason narrative to be true.

But, the question is, why isn’t this staff getting these guys to bring effort and intensity? I think this is the issue with this team and the biggest question
We’re on the same page more than you think. I picked us to win 6 or 7 because I thought we were more talented than 6 or 7 teams on our schedule. Now I might’ve been wrong about that. It might be closer to 4 or 5.

But we’re absolutely more talented than Georgia State and they beat us by two touchdowns (if you take away the garbage time TD.) We’re absolutely more talented than BYU - so we’ll see if we play like it tonight. If we don’t, we’re 0-2 in that department.

You’re spot on - why isn’t this staff getting the roster to buy in and bring consistent effort and intensity? That’s the biggest question and the biggest red flag going forward.

How many times did they get true effort and buy-in last year? Three times? (USC, UK and Auburn?) You can count some of the scrub games but if memory serves we didn’t look very good in those - just had enough talent to win.

If we are looking for a sliver of hope it’s that the culture Butch left was beyond repair. Like bass said, the coaches know their X’s and O’s, and the new kids are the ones out there playing hard. Hoping that’s what we’re seeing.
If the Butch leftovers aren't getting it done put the young guys in. Salvage the season best you can. Do the best you can with recruiting and move on. That being said...Come on JG, TC, JJ, MQ, DT, NW let's ******* ride and show us what your made of. Go Damn Vols till the day I die!

the problem is the core players at key positions are still Butch players and Pruitt technically didnt have a full recruiting cycle his first year, so it would be true freshmen. Which should be playing QB imo.
And I remember when this exact same line of thinking was used in Butch’s first couple of years because “Dooley’s culture was so bad.” We give every coach this benefit of the doubt. And we probably should in year one. But in year two you’ve had enough time to set your culture and weed out any bad apples.

You act like playing true freshman would be worse than playing upperclassmen giving 60%. It wouldn’t be.

I just have a feeling that we’re gonna come out tonight ready to rip some heads off. Crouch and Harrison are gonna crush the QB a couple times, we’ll get a couple turnovers, Gray is gonna wow us, and maybe JG even doesn’t look awful.

Or maybe it’s just the Taco Bell talking, who knows?

this is the question

I wonder if one of the problems that Pruitt is having in changing the culture is that there are no team leaders? Outside of JJ there doesn’t seem to be any on this team, especially at the most important position: QB

Bass I think is on the something here. Think about it, every team who is ulta successful has “that” person who you lean on when things are going good/bad to lead you. Other than JJ, who is it?

I’d make JJ my captain and have him be the only guy for the coin flip until others prove they are deserving.

Well, the upper class roster is completely his, no? Oh, and half of Pruitts first class. Now, they’re all Pruitts guys now, but the intern is the one who left the roster with a lack of talent. You may not like that because it doesn’t fit your narrative, but it’s true
A good coach *should* be able to turn players recruited by the previous staff and make them want to play hard for him and see the path to having fun/winning ball games. Not all of them - but most. Then you get rid of the guys that won’t buy in.

Butch got most of those Dooley guys to play hard. Locksley has Durkin guys playing well - and that atmosphere was as toxic as any in the country. A kid died there.

Agreed, we were so bad it’s hard to believe we could be that much better on the other hand we were so bad you’d have to think we were better. Wouldn’t be surprised either way.
Me either but orange shades are in full effect. Predicting a...well hoping...hell I dont know...Big Orange Beatdown

He has to play Crouch and Harrison first. I hope he will

I've been following the Vols for over 5 decades. I listened to the radio call last week. Taking it down to the wire in the last 4 minutes of that game was the worst feeling I can remember following Vol football. Though I want to tune in tonight, can't say I am looking forward to it. Unbelievable.
I'm going and not looking forward to it. That's not how it is suppose to be. This is about to kill my desire. Still a Vols fan but I could go to Europe a few more times instead. Money could be spent in other places.
