Pruitts qb reasoning? (Lengthy)

Its not about an argument for the back up. It’s about the false belief that our backups are even worse than what we’ve seen from JG. That’s simply not true.

I think all the QBs are good imho. They all have certain things they do well. I just don’t think the staff thinks highly of the 2 backups. They can careless what we think. They are going to play who “THEY” think gives them the best chance to win.

That’s why when a QB picks a school you better go in with that staff believing that you are the guy. Not just what they could sign at the last min. JT and BM are good QBs but will not get a chance until they think that they are the guy or God forbid someone gets hurt.

I just hope they figure it out we can’t go 3-9 this year.

I had a daydream, BYU Night Game, Prime Time... where the whole stadium chanted.......... "Put in Maurer! Put in Maurer! " until Neyland was shaking from the volume. I was gazing at Pruitt from my fantasy first row seats, and Pruitt, nervously, hesitantly, being a Bammer, puts in the superior Maurer. Chaney just laid an egg. The crowd goes absolutely nuts, 130 dB minimum, small earthquake. Vol prophecy is fulfilling. Deafening cheers. The first play, a Peyton-Bama-like Play Action (we haven't seen one in ages) for a TD to the deep route. The crowd goes absolutely crazy. "WHO IS THIS GUY?!?!" one says... "ITS MAURER! BRIAN ****IN MAURER!" We are up by 40 against Georgia? How? It's been like an offensive flash of lightning before our eyes. The stats? Maurer is 41/43, 12 Tds, all deep balls, 1,300 yard performance. Heisman ALERT!!! NFL Scouters everywhere! Chants from Neyland "MVP MVP MVP" Jarrett at this point is literally crying while his dad is signing him off the Rutgers. Maurer is lifted by the crowd who storms the field, everyone praising him. A teardrop in Pruitts eyes, his job is safe. "WE WANT BAMA" "WE WANT BAMA" Saban is scared, he knows the momentum is in the Vol's favor. Wow... if only we could bench JG
Fantasy post of the year candidate.....BTW who's your hypnotist?

I think JG has a must play contract like the one that kept Kamara on the bench.

It looks identical and is a huge disservice to team chemistry.
Somebody got some dirty pictures of somebody doing something bad sounds to me like. All of us can't be wrong, somethings up. Might have to restrain JJ on this one. Can't afford him catching charges too.

Let me start by saying that JG was not good on Saturday. He never deviated from his first read which led to him missing several open receivers. He also did a poor job of recognizing down and distance. With that being said, I think it is ludicrous to suggest that Pruitt would go with JG if he didn't think JG gave us the best chance to win. Like I said, JG played poorly on Saturday so I'm not defending him at all. My point here is that if Maurer had earned the job with his play during the spring and fall camp, he would have been on the field. I will close by saying that if JG keeps playing as poorly as he did against Georgia State, I wouldn't be opposed to Shrout or Maurer getting a shot.

After what I saw Saturday maybe the staff needs to listen to the fans on the whole playbook for both sides of the ball.
I've seen better play calling from e-coaches on Madden :D

I don't know about that. You got some coaches that are stuck in their ways and refuse to change. Seen it happen before. Heck our football coach is one, last year finally made a change at QB and the team starting looking good, too bad he refused to switch up his predictable play calling:mad:
Since this is TN. Look at Jeff Fisher. Say what you want about VY, after Fisher was made to put him back in the team started winning. Dude saved Fisher's job, hated that because I wanted his predictable run, run, pass punt gone too.

JJ wouldn't catch passes from JG during practices and said Butch lied to him when recruiting - saying he would get a chance to play QB... all water under the bridge. JJ has worked through this and works to control what he can control.

Honestly if the offense stalls in the first quarter, Pruitt may have no choice but to bench JG.

One of the offense's jobs, especially when the chips are down, is to keep MOMENTUM on your side. Stalling drives, missing 3rd down conversions, sack+fumbles, bullet short throws that cause bobbles/turnovers and int's have a way of killing momentum and making an inexperienced defense's work way harder than it should be. The defense got hurt by coaching as well because of substitution errors and alignment errors which should have been remedied before the game. I'm not letting the play of the defense off the hook, I'm just saying they were put in a bad position by the play of the leader (supposedly) of the offense.

The staff couldn't figure out who the best 5 olinemen on the team are after spring and fall practice. What makes you think that they are any better at determining who is the best QB on the roster?

I definitely don't want to come off as hellbent for JG to play. It's unbelievable that we couldnt stay on the field and push it down the field more on those guys.
This. Embarrassing to settle for field goals on those guys. Should have had 42 on the board.

JG's stats are for 4 quarters, some of it in garbage time. Ideally, that would have been his stats at halftime.......as the subs go rolling out.

JG isn't the problem or at least all of it. But he isn't the solution either. None of us get to see practice so we don't really know how the other QBs are performing but what would be the harm in telling one or two of them they're going to get a series on Saturday? The reality is this is a 3-4 win team tops, so there isn't a big downside to getting a look at the other QB's in game situations. JMHO

At the moment, this team's goal for improvement is to rise to the level of mediocrity.

There's a strong doubt that JG is much better than the other back-ups. It's an even stronger doubt that he is even better than them. After two years and a game, there's no doubt that JG cannot raise the level of this offense. It's time to start someone else and find somebody that can run this offense. Most of the throws are short throws anyway or at least that is the way JG layed it.

So, an upper classman plays while freshmen sit. It's the way things work; especially at QB.

Yes it is the way it works here, Fulmer mentality. UT's way. Freshman Soph don't start when there are QBs with game experience who are left to die on the field.

Examples of success are numerous, Clemson, GA, and Alabama. The list goes on and on. JG talent is ability only. 1 of 5 skill sets needed.

Fulmer did not play Manning vs UCLA until 3 other QBs were in the game, Hinton, Helton, Stewart, then Manning. The last backup QB to come off the bench without an injury to the starting QB and win was Bubba Wyatt.

It's ridiculous. We have lost many games because of this failure to stick the next game in line. We have lost many games in the past because opposing teams have done so....

I would like to see how this team responds to a different QB. Might surprise us all

Tennessee has never thrown a freshman, soph, or Junior QB onto the field to mix it up except when they had two freshman at the position.

I would give JG a very short leash....and then throw the every QB at them until I found the right guy....

UT cannot win without offense They maybe able to eventually when they can get the defense in line but not another Rinse and Repeat Job like Georgia St.

If the shampoo is not working get another shampoo instead of standing in the shower and rinsing and repeating because it states to do so on the directions....

JG didn't look good at all, but there's no way, no way, they're going to bench last year's starting QB who was highly ranked among SEC QBs in the preseason this year after one bad game in which most everyone sucked. No stinking way. JG is going to be your starter unless he gets injured. I bet the others don't even get a snap all season unless JG is unable to go. That's what's happening in Realville.

Being highly ranked in efficiency and not touchdown and passing yards is not something to tout.

Dude, I'm not going to argue about whether JG is great QB or about how well so and so behind him could/might do. All I'm doing is telling the truth. There's no way in hades they're going bench JG from now on after one game and play a freshman with 0 experience. That's insane. You all might believe in your hearts that it would be so much better, but truth is it isn't happening. The only way any QB other than JG gets a single snap this year is if JG gets hurt, we are winning by four or five touchdowns in the fourth, or we're losing by seven touchdowns with five minutes in the fourth. I'm not here to say it's right or wrong. I'm here to say it is.

You understand how players get experience right?

You understand how players get experience right?
You understand sanity, right? You don't do that. You don't bench an experienced QB who did better last year for freshman who's never played at all after a crappy opener. I don't think the coaches are as convinced of Maurer or Shrout's ability to walk in today and do better. Goodness knows you and some others are, but I do not believe for one second that the coaches are. This is the classic "the next guy is the real good one" with no evidence syndrome. What if they actually suck worse? Who knows what lies ahead. Maybe JG stinks it up even worse for three more games and they finally decide to gamble. Or maybe JG does better even with his limited skill set and wins some games. You don't gamble against your starting QB at this stage. Not yet. If it comes to that then so be it, but it's premature and knee jerk reactionary today.
