You, my friend, have an opinion that comes from actually watching the game and knowing a thing or two about the game of football.I still don't understand how any human being could watch that game and come away with the conclusion that "the QB is Tennessee's biggest problem."
We gave up 38 points to a Sunbelt team. The defense looked tired and discombobulated the entire game. Several defensive players just gave up. Georgia State ran at-will against us. It wasn't some series of clever playcalls; their O-line just beat our D-line consistently.
Offense needs to improve, but you can chalk up the offensive struggles to "rust" and "1st game issues". We played careless and had guys make mental mistakes, and the coaches shuffling around the O-line probably helped contribute to that.
But if the D actually does it's job even half of the time, we win that game. JG is not Peyton Manning, but he's the best QB on the roster as of today. If we had landed Adrian Martinez last year, maybe we could talk about there being a better QB than JG on the roster. Right now, there's not. And the defense is BY FAR the much bigger issue.
If we can't stop Georgia State from running the ball on us, what hope do we have against SEC teams with elite running attacks? We could have Trevor Lawrence as our QB and it's not going to make one bit of difference if we let our opponents run for 300+ yards.
I am so glad that at least one person actually watched the game and has an opinion about what they saw. The offense could have been much better, considering a swing pass was muffed on the second play of the game by our "best" running back. We scored enough to have won the game easily. There is NO excuse for the defensive effort seen on the field. If anything, out head coach is supposed to be a defensive guru. The defense was so bad on Saturday that it reached Sunseri levels of chaos. There was no hustle with the team, no urgency of any kind. That is squarely on the coaching staff starting at the top. I have stayed off the boards because I was more upset than usual about a loss. The stat line for JG would have looked decent had the defense not let Georgia State score at will. This was a total team debacle.I still don't understand how any human being could watch that game and come away with the conclusion that "the QB is Tennessee's biggest problem."

The odd thing is that jg was butchs guy...I don’t know if shrout and mauer are bad or Pruitt doesn’t know how to evaluate the qb postion
He’s obviously favoring experience over talent at that one position. And truth be told I get it. It’s the qb. But it should be painfully clear that the BEST guy isn’t playing. He’s on the sidelines. It’s even more clear that he doesn’t give us the best chance to “win” because we lost.... in embarrassing fashion I might add. What's your point? I'm not sure I'm following.
How do you conclude it is painfully clear that Maurer (or Shrout) is more talented at this point than JG?He’s obviously favoring experience over talent at that one position. Do some research. You don’t even know how wrong you are. Compare HS stats and you’ll see the exact same thing he was then. Compare BMs stats to his and you’ll eat the words “the others are worse at qb”.simplest answer is usually the correct one. JG starts cause the others are worse at QB.
Regardless of "his guys" or "Butch's guys" he will play the ones who play hardest and give the team a chance to win the most games.

Not talking about stats as much as style of play.High school stats don't mean jack. they are less than worthless when you get to the SEC. the guys who are best at adapting to change, have the best work ethic and can learn the best and react the best are the ones that do the best. That's why we got so many prima donna players who refuse instructions because they think they know it all and they dont know d!ck.
Not saying JG is a prima-donna. Just saying relying on high school stats is dumber than dumb
aw hell here we go. the damn spring game. That's nothing but a fan fest exhibition. Its even more worthless than high school stats. You dont know what you're talking about and just grasping at anything that supports an unsupportable claim.Watch the spring game. That’s all we have at this level. BM was by far the most consistent despite the mistakes. Compare the spring game to his highlights and you’ll se no difference.
My lord pay attention. HIS STYLE OF PLAY IS WHAT IM REFERRING TO. Is it my fault the spring game is the only evidence so far?aw hell here we go. the damn spring game. You would swallow your tongue if Pruitt put BM in againt BYU and he threw 4 pics. You wouldnt know what to believe anymore hahahahaha
for a fact Pruitt is going to play the QB that gives him the best chance to win. butch did it, Dooley did it everyone does that.
Ultimately it doesn't even matter. Debating with QB should start is a valid debate if this team is doing this basic things correctly like lining up on defense and was much better on both lines of scrimmage. At that point you're having a debate over whether or not JG is the difference between an 10-2 team and an 8-4 team.Once again.... it’s not the spring game or his his Hs stats. It’s his style vs JGs

If you can't get lined up right and consistently get blown off the ball, everything else is just minor details. This team is so bad right now that it doesn't really matter who the QB is. Wake me up when we can do some fundamentals correctly, and I'd be more than interested to have a JG debate. Until then, it really doesn't matter.
